How can I set up my airport express to extend my current wifi network? My current network does not use any airport device.
Can anyone help me?
The only option would be to connect the AirPort to your existing network by wire. Most, if not all non-AirPort routers, will not be WDS compatible.

How can I set up an external monitor to extend my screen in windows 7 bootcamp? I have updated bootcamp to the latest version. The monitor I have works while I am using Mac OS X. While in bootcamp the monitor is dectected and I am able to select the settings and displays however the external monitor remains alseep. I hooked it up using a mini display port to VGA adapter. Any suggestions?
ThanksOn your Windows desktop right click and select Screen resolution from the menu. You should see a window like this:
Make sure you select Extend and then set your resolutions for each monitor.
If this does not work for you try asking on a Windows forum about extending displays to a second monitor. -
How can I speed up the "start speaking" feature in iBooks? (System Preferences Dictation and speech does not do anything to the speech speed.) The rate is a bit to slow.
Hi, I had the same problem you described, and I noticed that there are two ways of activating text to speech on iBook for Mac, with different speed results (at least on my MacBook Pro Retina display)
On your iBook you can select the text and and then click on > More> Start speaking, and you will get a certain speed, which tends to be too slow.
But you will get the speed you had selected with "Go to System Preferences>Dictation and Speech>Text to speech. In there is a slider to adjust the speaking rate." if you use the TOP MENU (next to the black apple) under Edit>Speech>Start Speaking. I also learned that under System Preferences>Dictation and Speech>Text to speech, there is an option for a shortcut which is very helpful. And you can change Key. Hope this was helpful. -

I also tried with and without your crossdomain.xml file but
with the same result. It looks like this file is intended for URL
policy, instead of socket policy. Recently Adobe separated the two.
When I run with the files installed on my dev PC, it does
work, which makes sense because the flash player isn't loaded from
an unknown domain.
I did get one step closer. If a crossdomain.xml in the server
root exists and the socketpolicy file is loaded from the app folder
then the first two warnings disappear. The logs now show:

UPDATE: When serving up the policy file on port 843 using the
example perl script then the socket connection seems to be accepted
and the connect succeeds. After that flex hangs trying to logon to
the IMAP server. -

I just bought an airport express but when trying to configure it my mac is not capable of detecting the devise. The airport is plugged right next to the modem and the wireless internet is running perfectly. does any one experience this before?
You don't mention what function you want the AirPort Express to accomplish.
If you are trying to configure it to "join" your existing wireless network, you need to know the exact type of security that your wireless network is using fo you can use that same information to provide the correct settings to the AirPort Express.
You may be getting a message that the settings have been stored successfully, but unfortunately the settings that you have provided to the Express are likely the wrong settings.
The only way that you really know if the settings that you entered were correct is if you get a green light 20-30 seconds after you click Update. If you don't get a green light on the Express, the settings that you provided were not the correct settings.
When you click Update, the Express will "disappear". This is normal. Up until the time that you click update, AirPort Utility is communicating to the Express on a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxxx. As soon as you click Update, the Express switches (or tries to switch) to another network, so of course it will disappear from the AirPort Utility window.
As soon as you click Update, close AirPort Utility. There is no reason to keep watching a window when the Express will never appear. -
I have had my Airport Extreme for almost a year now. I have not been able to get it to work. It has never worked. I have tried everything in the apple manuals, my peripheral device manuals, and online help. My Airport Extreme Base Station has a completely dead USB port. The USB connector does have voltage and ground. Apparently there is no data transfer. I do not know how to test the data pinouts. I don't know if it is a software or driver problem, or if it is a hardware or wiring problem. My computer is a mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro. All of my external devices work well with the MacBook Pro. The USB functionality on the MacBook Pro has always performed without a glitch. It seems the problem with the Airport Extreme must either be a network communication problem or a hardware/hardwire problem. I bought the Airport Extreme to build a home inTRAnet network. I have a seperate 3rd party router for inTERnet. Contrary to what the manuals declare, the initial setup of my Airport Extreme requires inTERnet setup during the process. Even when the choice is made to limit the network access to LAN only, when I reach the end of the setup process, a prompts reads that the Airport Extreme may not function because I have not set it up for inTERnet with the WAN. Well, Dah... during the intial stages of the setup I told the machine to configure an inTRAnet only LAN setup. So... I went ahead and set it up for inTERnet and WAN. Either way, the USB port is not working. Then I set it up for the whole package, WAN, LAN, and everything. Still... no function out of the USB port. Any ideas?
P.S. The Ethernet works and so does the 802.11 tranceiver. The USB port is the only problem, but a major, major one for my needs. There is no peripheral functionality.Okay so I figured it out. I inherited the Configurator already set up so I didn't realize that our former administrator was brilliant and set things up a little differently. To anyone else who finds themselves in this spot try this:
After you plug the iPad in and open Configurator instead of trying to 'Prepare' the device click 'Assign'
There should be groups of Users listed on the left hand side of the screen.
Select the group you want the ipad to be a part of, or make a new group. ***Note a group can be one person so this is a good feature for teachers to have individual app assignements for students.
After you select the user group click the little plus ( + ) button on the bottom of the screen under the second column of info where names and device serial numbers should appear.
Type the name of the person, group, whatever you want to identify that assignment by into the blank that pops up after you hit the plus ( + )
Then select the assignment you just made and tohe 'Check Our' button at the bottom. At this point a box will pop up with a window at the top listing all devices supervised by Configurator. There is a tiny down arrow button that opens a scroll down menu to the right of this box. Click that, then select the device connected by USB as the one to assign.
The name of the assignment you gave it will show on the lock screen now and you can assign apps and profiles to the device like you would any other device in your Configurator inventory.

Use AirPort Express to extend Verizon FiOS WiFi signal
I have been having trouble with low/no signal strength from my FiOS router at the far end of my house where my main TV is located. I just tried to plug in my AirPort Express midway between the two, but can't get the Utility to recognise the FiOS network. The WiFi connection icon on the menu bar of my Mac (located adjacent to the FiOS router) shows both the FiOS network name, and the old name from the AirPort Express. Any suggestions on how to get the AirPort to extend the FiOS network?
Actually, I just remembered I have an old AirPort Base Station as well. (Haven't used either for several years). Would this one work better? Haven't plugged it in to try.

Airport utility does not find any airport and time capsule hardware
Hi, I have 4 airport expresses (2 for music and one for extending network) and a time capsule that also acts as my wifi router. The expresses have always appeared and disappeared from the express utility, while the TC is always listed. Now airport utility cannot find find any of them, and after many rescans, and a few "successful" hard reboots (in the sense that they were configured, but then disappeared again), still does not see them. The strange thing is that the TC has to be working because this computer is hooked up to the internet via the wifi router, and it is working fine. Any ideas? The expresses are not that big of a deal, as I can always plug an ipod to play music, but they used to work. I am on 5.4.2 on the utility, having rolled it back a few months ago when some of these problems begain. thanks

It sounds like you are trying to scan for and configure your Apple devices using wireless. If you haven't tried this yet, I think you will have much better luck if you connect an ethernet cable directly from your computer to the device that you are trying to "see".
If this does not work at first, it may help to power down both your computer and the device, then connect the ethernet cable and power the computer and device back up. -

There is an option called "browser.link.open_newwindow" which when set to 2 should open links, that would normally open in a new window, in a new window.

Hello, I've recently installed Firefox on my new PC after giving Chrome yet another chance (I've had bad experiences with it) and after seeing crashes everywhere I just gave up. I'm a long-time Firefox user but I've never been able to figure out how to prevent the New Tab Page from showing the Browser's History.
Is there a way to make Firefox show Bookmarks and Folders on the NTP instead ? Also, is there a way to make the Bookmarks bar show on the New Tab Page ONLY ?The about:newtab page shows pages that you have visited. So if you visit a page by clicking a bookmark then that bookmark will become a history item and will thus appear in one of the tiles on the about:newtab page.
If you want then you can customize the tiles and drag bookmark (and history) items in a specific tile to pin that web page to that tile.
You set the number of rows and columns that appear on the about:newtab page by modifying these prefs on the about:config page via a double-click.

How can I set up a time capsule to extend my wifi network from a non-apple Medialink MWN-WAPR300N?
I just purchased a new Medialink MWN-WAPR300N from Amazon to replace my old 2008 500 GB Time Capsule.
I was wondering if it would be possible to use my old Time Capsule to extend the network from the Medialink router to the rooms in the back of my house. Would this be possible? How about if I use the Time Capsule as the primary point, and use the Medialink router to extend the network?

The same would be true if the Time Capsule were the primary router, and you tried to use the Medialink product to extend the Time Capsule network wirelessly.
If you can connect the two devices together using a permanent wired Ethernet connection, then you should be able to accomplish your goal. -
