How can i set up my iCloud account to receive emails?

I recently closed my other email accounts, and i'd like to get the iCloud emailing to work properly, but don't know how. any tips?

You can set up separate iCloud accounts for each of you and sign into your account on both your iPhone and iPad.
To change the account on her phone, go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted. (This only deletes the account from her phone; not from iCloud.) Then sign in with a different ID to create her new account (and use this ID for iMessage and FaceTime too). After setting up the account on her phone, she can then sign in with the same ID on her iPad to sync iCloud data between her devices.
You can then sign into you iCloud account using your ID on your devices, and both of you can continue to share the same ID in Settings>iTunes & App Stores.

I have a brand new imac i'sight 3.06 Ghz, 500GB etc. I have added my UK hotmail email account to the mail application and I am able to send email directly from the application from my hotmail mailbox, but when i press 'Get new mail' the bar flashes and shows that I am receiving mail but I cannot see it in the inbox.
Can anyone help?

I don't have Hotmail, but generally, web based email accounts need to be set up within that account (in this case Hotmail) - you need to go to your Hotmail account and check if it can be set up as an IMAP or POP account with emails automatically being forwarded to Mail. Hopefully someone with a Hotmail account will chime in with more specific info; in the meantime, check out the options in your account there.

Welcome to the Apple community.
You can add more than one account to your iPad, but you can only have one primary account. Secondary accounts which you can add at settings> mail, contacts, calendars do not have all the features of a primary account such as photo stream.

Note: While you can configure multiple iCloud Mail accounts in iOS, Push mail will only work for the primary iCloud account in iOS. Secondary account(s) will check for mail based on the settings in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data.
It's not something I can test - I suppose the second account's data gets added to the lists in iCal and Address Book?

If the old ID is yours, and if it is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. It is possible to use multiple ID's on an iOS device, but when you switch ID's and download content with another ID, you associate the device with that ID for 90 days and lock yourself out of the other ID for that 90 day period.

If you have the old phone, connect it to iTunes, right click on the device, and choose transfer purchases. If you no longer have the old phone, I don't believe there is a way to recover them, as they were on your original device.

As currently designed, you cannot. Once iCloud detects you are on mobile Safari, it switches you to the iPad screen.
If you had another browser that would allow you to pretend you were a desktop Safari client, ie8 or 9, or Firefox, that might work.
But, Puffin and Opera mini don't work.
