How can I "slow down" portions of a layer?

I am modifying a composition template. It has only a few layers but four folders with numerous layers in each. I want to "slow down" the frames at certain points in the layer then resume normal speed. I am guessing that I can do this on the layer of the "top level timeline" without going into individual placeholders, etc., by manipulating frame rates somehow just for certain portions of the layer. This obviously results in a longer composition and that's another factor to consider.
What is the best and easiest way to do this? I am hoping that there is another way besides frame freezing or holding. I am using AE CS4.
With sincere thanks,
Paul

Thank you. Andrew Kramer's Video Copilot video, which I somehow managed to miss, was very helpful.
I had a 79 second clip which I precomposed and enabled time remapping. But I have 12 places where I need to slow down the layer. After a while, I was runing out of room to add more keyframes using the method promoted in many videos and instruction sites (grab the last two keyframes, including the end frame, and drag).
In reality, you can add keyframes wherever you like and you can adjust them however works best within the existing timeline without messing with the duration, etc.
Much appreciated.

  • How can I slow down my movie?

    Hi,
I have created a logo using several objects. And they come one by one on my stage while playing. But these objects (which all are movie clips) coming too fast. How can I slow down them?

I have added more key frames but the speed is still fast. What is the next step to slow it down, please.
    Thanks.

Try using the following code after each time you write to the TextArea.  I am assuming you are using a TextArea component and are trying to control the position of where it is scrolled to when it refreshes with the chat data.
"ta" is the instance name of the TextArea
    ta.verticalScrollPosition = ta.maxVerticalScrollPosition;

  • How can I slow down the playback speed of selected parts of a captivate video?

    Hi everybody,
I'm pretty new to Captivate and although it offers some great tools, there is something that I just can't get to work:
I'm creating a video tutorial about how to use a website i'm working with so I've tried using "Automatic" ("Demo" mode chosen) recording option which is recommended for this type of video. However, the video recorded has a different playback speed than the amount of time I recorded. This means that some of the slides have a quicker playback speed than the way I recorded, thereby not leaving enough time to show the given feature.
The recording mode with the most "true" playback was "Full motion". However, I would still like to be able to slow down selected parts of the video, but can only find guides on how to slow down the entire presentation.
Can you please advise me on how to slow down only selected parts of the project? If this is not possible in Captivate, please advise me on which video editing software (where you can slow down the playback speed on selected parts of the video) is compatible with Captivate 5?
    Thanks!

  • How can I slow down the "Far far away" title?

I want to slow down the title so I can read the information without extending the picture length.  Is this possible?

    1. Press the Crop button (seen on the top right bar where "reset all" is located)
    2. Change the "crop to fill" or "Ken Burns" to "FIT"
    3. Press the button that looks like a speed gauge on the top bar... press it and on there should be a label named "Speed"
and next to it is a drop down menu... Use that to change the speed
         - Here you will see "Normal", "Slow", "Fast" and "Custom".
         - Choose either option
         - I recommend choosing "Custom" so that you are able to control the speed by a percentage interval
If you have any questions, please reply!

  • How can I slow down picture frequency on screen saver?

I use an iPhoto smartfolder as slideshow for screensaver, but it shifts the picture every 2 seconds, which is far faster than I want it. About 30 seconds watch on each picture would be fine, Is there no way to change this setting on Mountain Lion?

  • How can I slow down advanced lightning?

    Hi!
    Advanced lightning/Anywhere:
I need to slow it down--is there a way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Rusty

Thanks!!  Oh, oh... since the lightning is following a moving object this complicates matters (and I already marked this answered).  Well, it seems I was on the correct track... I speeded up the animation of the moving object and increased the fps so I would not loose frames.  About the same as your suggestion only a little bit more involved for the situation.  Animate the lightning then render then slow it down to normal speed and render again.  A variable property called 'Speed' would have been easier LOL.
    Thanks!

  • Can you slow down a voicemail you are listening to? I can't understand what someone said to me because they spoke too fast. I just want to know how to slow down the voicemail so I can understand her if it's possible.

How can you slow down a voicemail you are listening to? Someone sent me a voicemail and they spoke way too fast for me to understand them. I want to know how to slow down the voicemail so I can understand them if that is possible.

I have to say, this is so weird because it's actually become this way in the past week maybe, and I'm sure me saying this here will be disputed, ridiculed and belittled, and that's absolutely fair, but I've got to say it... up until a few days ago, my iTunes sync/backup area really would keep more than one backup for my one, single iPhone. They were all timed and dated with a drop-down menu (which appeared if I clicked the restore button) to choose which one I wanted to roll back to, for example. Sure, I'd read about the three backups thing etc. etc. and perhaps I got that wrong or misunderstood, but I can honestly say, I only ever had at the most two backups, that I could drop-down and choose to restore from. They were there. Same iPhone. Different dates.
At the time, when this seemed to be the case, the backing-up process took quite a while. I would leave it to progress while I went and made a cup of tea, come back and it still wasn't finished running. So, not really AGES, but a little while.
Now, when I perform a backup, the progress bar almost shoots across to a finish. I'll 'fess up... that worries me most of all. I can live without the luxury of a menu of backups... but if it does it once, I'd like to be sure it does it at all.
Much more importantly though, thank you for your replies so far.
Any further input, even if it's to belittle or shame is totally welcome. I'd like to understand this a bit more.
    Thanks again.

    from iphoto  Help
    Album overview
A photo album in iPhoto is just like one you would create with printed photos: It’s a collection of photos you select from your library and arrange in the order you want.
You can create photo albums to:
Focus on a particular subject, such as your favorite nature photos
Group pictures that you want to send to a friend, post on a webpage, or burn to a CD or DVD
Gather a decade of anniversary photos
iPhoto has two kinds of photo albums:
Standard photo albums: You create these albums (B, shown below) by selecting particular photos. You can add new photos by dragging them to the album (or using the Add To button), and you can remove photos at any time. All adding and removing is done manually; iPhoto doesn’t update standard albums automatically as you import new photos.
Smart Albums: iPhoto creates these albums for you, based on criteria your specify. iPhoto then updates Smart Albums (A, shown above) for you as your library changes. For example, you could create a Smart Album containing:
Photos of specific people, such as your family members. As you import new photos, iPhoto uses Faces to detect your family members, and automatically adds new photos of them to the Smart Album (after you’ve confirmed the matches in Faces).
All the photos of your daughter taken on school field trips in third grade. Use Faces (to name your daughter) and keywords (to mark certain photos or events as “field trips”) to help specify the photos you want iPhoto to place in that Smart Album.
Only photos taken with a specific camera, or photos matching other Exchangeable Image File (EXIF) information.
You can make as many albums as you like, and you can include the same photo in several albums without making multiple copies of it.
After you create an album, such as “Australia Adventures,” it appears in your Source list below Albums.
In full-screen view, the album appears as a stack of photos below Albums.
To further organize your library, you can group several albums (along with slideshows and projects) into a folder. For example, you could create a folder containing several years of birthday albums or a collection of albums with photos of your camping trips.
To create a folder, see “Create a folder in the Source list and move items into it” in “Customize the Source list”.
Folders appear only in the Source list, not in full-screen view.
Note: A photo album is different from a photo book, which is a collection of photos you create to get professionally printed and bound. See this topic: Photo book overview.

I was listening to an audiobook and somehow managed to make the reader talk faster. How can I slow the reader back down?

On the right side of the playing screen right below the scurbber bar is the speed setting box.  It has 1/2X, 1X or 2X, the playback speeds.  Tap the bax to change and cycle through the speeds.

  • Can i slow down the music speed?

how do i slow down the song speed while im listening to it, please help. =D

What I usually do is set a marker for every beat. Then I can go back and edit my clips to the markers, and it syncs up with the music. Course it might be kind of hard to set 15 markers in one second...
On the other hand, Capt. Mench's technique is definitely a good one. A fantastic one, actually. Markers would just be another method of doing it.
(On a side note, that video is awesome, Captain. Especially using the brackets to trim. I never knew about that. Thanks for the tip, and thanks for posting it, David.)
Good luck, B, and hope one of these methods works for you.

  • How can i SLOW [not speed] scrolling speed in Windows FF?

How can i SLOW [not speed] scrolling speed in Windows FF?

I'm not very familiar with trackballs, but I'll add a comment regarding the keyboard part.
    ''ameame [[#answer-722079|said]]''
    <blockquote>
When i press my spacebar or keyboard arrow key, [all] pages scroll too fast.</blockquote>
On my Firefox, the spacebar skips down a screenful at a time, like the PgDn key. When that repeats, it's certainly going to cover a lot of ground, and a lot faster than the down arrow key. But pressing the spacebar a few times can be efficient if you don't hold it down continuously.
The distance covered by the up and down arrow keys can be modified using a different preference:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''scroll''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Scroll all the way down to '''toolkit.scrollbox.verticalScrollDistance''' which usually has a default value of '''3'''
    * If the preference is bolded and user set to a value higher than 3, use right-click > Reset to set it back to 3 and test how that works for you (test on a normal web page, not the about:config page)
    * To reduce the number of lines below 3, double-click to edit and type a smaller number and then you can test that (test on a normal web page and not the about:config page)
    Does that help at all?
''Note: I assume you are not using "Caret Browsing" which moves the cursor through the text of the document when you press the up and down arrow keys. The results can be somewhat unpredictable depending on the layout of the page. If you want to test that feature, you can turn it on and off by pressing the F7 function key.''

  • HT1305 how can i turn down the fan rpm that's between the optical drive and hdd in my power mac g5 dual 2.3?

how can i turn down the fan rpm that's between the optical drive and hdd in my power mac g5 dual 2.3?

Ok, I saw that error in your logic. A Dual G5 2.3 or even a Dual Core 2.3 does NOT use LCS at all. Its air cooled and if anything if the OP is experiencing this problems could be due to possible heatsink paste drying up. He might have to re-apply MX 7 or Arctic Silver.
The only G5's that use LCS are: G5 dual 2.5 from Late 2004, the G5 Dual 2.7 from Early 2005, and lastly the G5 Quad-Core from Late 2005-end of September 2006.
    Hope this helps.
