How can i split a long video in an iMovie event ?

Hello,
I have imported some old family films that were on small VHS tapes via an acquisition box (sorry for the bad english) model Elgato Video Capture.
On these tapes there are films that somtimes are several months appart (for exemple tape "1989 - Jully + Christmas"). When I have imported those tape, the elgato program has created a mp4 file per tape, and therefore, when I imported those files into iMovie they are long and contain different things.
I would like to be able to split those long clip (45 minutes) into several small films corresponding to what was being recoreded, making me able to set the dates correctly in order to find clips easily, but I havn't found how to do so yet.
Have you ?

Actually i just found this topic : https://discussions.apple.com/message/17194264#17194264
it solved my problem but thanks anyway !
it is silly nonsense to use trashbin as an 'intermediate' storage.
the Manual I linked to describes the Apple intended, normal way ...
it is a feature of iMovie to process tasks like yours.
no need for wacky work-arounds ..
(I love work-arounds, but in this case .......)

  • HT201066 How can I split a long recording audio file into multiple audio files?

    Hi,
How can I split a long recording audio file into multiple audio files?
With Windows I was using Nero software, which is not available for Mac. Is there any similar app for free for Mac?
    Thanks!

    Hello ingiorgio
You can import the track into GarageBand and then split the tracks there. Once that it is done you can highlight the ruler section and then share the song to iTunes to get them separated out.

  • How can I transfer a long video to my computer?

I took a long video (1.20h+-) and it is now in "movies," not the camera role.  I cannot transfer it to my work computer and need to free up space on my device.  What can I do?

When connected to your computer via USB, your iPad, should appear as a digital camera, much like most point and shoot cameras. From here, you can transfer your video files using any photo/video management or transfer application that supports the standard Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP).
Windows includes a built-in photo import utility that should come up automatically when you first connect your iPad to your computer, providing you with a choice between importing your pictures and videos automatically or opening Windows Explorer to browse the photo and video content on your device directly.

  • How can I delete the iPhoto Video Thumbnails in iMovie?

It's been a while since I've used iMovie, and when I opened the application tonight, I got the following message:
"iMovie needs to generate thumbnails for the videos in your iPhoto library. This process may take several minutes.
You can postpone this operation by clicking Later, but your iPhoto videos will be unavailable until the next time you restart iMovie."
I accidentally hit NOW, and the process began. When I realized it had used about 5 GBs of space, I force quit iMovie, but the disk space was not reclaimed. I need this space back now... I can import the iPhoto videos later. How can I undo the generated iPhoto video thumbnails? There was no project generated, and so no folder with the thumbnails in them. Where are they located? I would like to delete the iPhoto video thumbnails within iMovie, but preserve the thumbnails for other projects. And of course I would like to be sure that I keep the videos themselves in iPhoto - I definitely do not want to lose the videos there. Thanks for your help.

The latest incarnation of iMovie doesn't offer the 'Export with Quicktime'-options, the previous versions did.

Thanks for the update. Looking forward to your results from further searches for that .iso file.
If you burn a Timeline content to a video file saved to the computer hard drive, you can use Publish+Share/Computer/and one of those choices to get a video file (.mov, .mpg, .avi, wmv, mp4, m2t). But, this route does not allow for menus. You can take the saved video file and transfer it to USB Flash Drive or memory card, and, if your player supports that, you can playback the file with the player.
When you burn a Timeline content to DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, menus are supported. And, what you have on the DVD after the burn to disc are two folders (OpenDVD and VIDEO_TS) in the correct disc system format. It is the VIDEO_TS Folder on the disc that has the video files and menu files for DVD-VIDEO format.
When you take the Timeline content to Publish+Share/Disc/DVD, but use Folder (4.7 GB), you end up with a saved folder which contains the same OpenDVD Folder and VIDEO_TS Folder that you would have gotten from the direct burn to disc. But, now you need to take just the VIDEO_TS Folder from the saved folder and get it to a DVD disc in the correct disc system format. You do that with a free 3rd party software such as ImgBurn.
If you go the ISO Image route, your DVD video files (video and menu et al) are saved as a file in format represented by the .iso file extension. It is essentially a copy of your DVD-VIDEO data including menus. The .iso image produced can be taken to DVD disc to produce the DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc.
So, in the case of burn to folder, you are looking for a saved folder with OpenDVD Folder and VIDEO_TS Folder inside.
In the case of the burn to ISO Image, you are looking for a file with the .iso file extension.
The Save In: location of the burn dialog should point to where you are going to find the folder or file after the burn to.
Please consider. We will be watching for further developments.

Add On...have you told me yet what is exactly shown in the Save In field of your burn dialog?

  • How do I split a long video into many short ones automatically

I want to split a 3.5 minute video into 210 small clips automatically. I certainly don't want to do that manually. is there a way to do this?

The Scene Detect in the media area is gone by Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1. But, you can right click the video's thumbnail in Organize/Media, select Run AutoAnalyzer which claims to be "detecting scenes". The latter is worth a try to see what it will do with your 3.5 min clip and its scenes.
Regarding the quality of your videos in Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 editing and export, we would need lots more information on that
    a. properties of the source media (video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio).
    b. what project preset you are setting for the project so that the project preset matches the properties of the source media
    c. types of edits
    d. choice of export and export settings, customized or default settings used
    e. computer or TV DVD or Blu-ray player.
Please review, supply the requested information, and then we will plan troubleshooting strategy. Also, we would need some idea of your computer environment - Windows or Mac 32 or 64 bit version...
    Lots ot put together.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thank you.

  • How can i split a long table (forecast 2013 - 2043) and import it into pages?

    Hey there!
I have a problem with numbers 09. I made a business plan including a cashflow forecast for 30 years. Now i need to split the table to export it into a pages document. Everytime I tried to cut or copy only parts of the table, the formulas dont work anymore.
    I would really appreciate suggestions!!!
    Thank you in advance!

Try copying the whole table, then paste into a new (temporary) table using the menu item "Edit > Paster Values"... then copy this to Pages as needed

  • How can I get an mp4 video running on iPad Mini?

How can I get an mp4 video running on iPad Mini, which is already in the iTunes File?

Pad2, the new iPad Supported Video Formats & Movie Formats
    H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
    MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • How can I split a QuickTime file in two?

8/21/2006. How can I split a QuickTime file in two? I saved a two hour videotape converted by PYRO A/V LINK to iBook G4 combo into a file of 24.5 Gb, and I saved to QuickTime into 536 mgs. Of course, it took half a day. When I went to copy it as video (536 mgs) onto a CD of 700 mg capacity, Toast 7 said it required 1100 mgs and couldn't do it. I have QuickTime Pro, got just recently. I would be very happy to learn how to split it, so to copy each of the split pieces onto 2 CD's, for my own purposes. Many, many thanks. Chuck Yopst. Kirk, Thanks for your post Monday 8/21. Interesting how things worked out. I split the OuickTime file--of my retired uncle Church of the Brethren pastor's 50th wedding anniversary, and came up with two folders. Each contained four more folders, and inside folder Mvseg was file Avseq.dat which contained the video material and, when double clicked, started playing that half of the story on Windows 98SE. It just so happens that my uncle's PC operating system is a Windows 98SE. All this from QuickTime 7.0 which Windows 98SE would play the audio but not the video. Then a week later, yesterday in fact, in looking through iDVD help I found your solution, which heretofore I had no idea of. I had to go into System Preferences--Hardware--CDs & DVDs, and set these for "Open with 'Ask what you want to do'." The factory settings were to "open these when inserted" without that "Ask"ing. So then I was able and did follow your solution and it worked, but as a single QuickTime file, playable on Windows XP and Windows 2000 and Macintosh but not Windows 98SE. So everything worked out well. And thank you again. Chuck Y
