How can I start up my ipod 120GB classic without a firewire connection? Is this possible to do?

I have had this ipod for 2 years and its been sitting in a box because I didnt know how to fix it, thought I'd give it a whirl tonight. It stopped working, displaying the red X screen and Im trying reboot/reset it and  I am at the Accessorize Test. However my Ipod/ Computer doesnt have a Fire Wire port to connect so can I continue in anyway to fix this IPod without the Firewire Port, if not is there any other way to fix this?

You dont  need Friewire for a 120GB, unfortunately you are going about things the wrong way.
Try these steps
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours) (the iPod need power to run)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
Then release the buttons
Select your preferred language.

    Remi,
How long did you hold these buttons for? Did you try more than once?  Have you tried letting it charge for a bit and trying again?

  • If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this.

If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this. Thank you.

The DVD recorder I'm referring to is one I've use for years. It is not attached to my aging iMac in any way. I simply play the video from my camcorder (mini-dv tape based Canon HV20)  into the DVD recorder and create a DVD that can be played in any DVD player. I can only do minimum editing so what goes in is what I get. This has been fine for creating dupes of the various things I shoot.
If I buy a new iMac (21 inch), I'd like to be able to download the video to the iMac through iMovie, work with it to whatever degree I wish, and burn it to a DVD that can also be played in any DVD player -- or to use as a master to dupe copies.
What I'm understanding from you and others is that this would be possible if Apple had included iDVD in the software that comes with the iMac, or if I purchase the iLife Family Pack, or buy the correct version of Toast. I'm hoping I can persuade Apple to sell me an iMac with iDVD installed.
Essentially I want to move from a basic process of creating DVD copies to the more sophisticated process of creating one from an iMac.
Thank you again for your help and wisdom.

  • How can I start an app on OSX Mavericks without switching to it?

What's up to all my Appleheads!
I usually do my research (extensively if I'm particularly annoyed) regarding any of my Apple questions, but  I can't seem to find an answer to the following:
Let's say I'm working in a full screen app (e.g. - Safari) window/space and I bring up spotlight/dock/launchpad to initiate/open/start an app, how can I prevent Mavericks from automatically "pulling" me to the designated window where the app is loading? I would like to be able to continue working on whatever it is I'm working on while at the same time have my app of choice start up in the "background" without being brought to it while it's still starting up. I know I'm not the only person that finds this behavior annoying, as I've seen it phrased a number of ways, but this question in particular hasn't been addressed (that I can find).
    A little info:
    Early 2011 13" MBP
    8gb RAM
    500gb HDD
    OSX 10.9.4
P.S. I've already tried the 'When switching to an application, switch to a Space with open windows for that application' within Mission Control settings. This does not yield the result I am searching for.

  • HT1689 How can i track my stolen ipod 5 and without wifi because the person who stole it has turned it off

Please help me i bought it a month ago and its very expensive now someone stole it please answer the question

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • How can I update the music on my classic without replacing existing music?

So I've been at this for a while now and I'm very afraid to sync my classic worrying that I will replace some existing music. I haven't synced my ipod with my new computer yet and am worried it will replace music that's been on my ipod since I got it. I know, I know I should have a back up of my music but alas I don't have everything. There are some really great albums that I don't have backup of and I can't seem to retrieve it off my ipod as it is. Any suggestions? I just want to add new music that I have to my ipod without deleting old music.
    Please Help!
    Thanks a bunch

1: Make sure itunes on your new computer is set to prevent ipods from  syncing automatically when ipod is connected. Do this by going to edit/preferences/devices.
2: Connect ipod. Under summary set it to manually manage music.
3: Now to add music without erasing what's already on your ipod, highlight whatever songs or albums you want to add from the itunes library and drag them to the ipod showing in the left pane under devices.
Hold the control key down while selecting music to highlight as much music as you want, them drag the the whole kaboodle to the left. Only the highlighted music will then sync all at once and nothing else will be deleted.
I think this should be the default setup when installing itunes. It would save a lot of people the headache of losing all their music when first connecting their ipod to itunes.

Well first off you shouldn't have had to pay for a download (just an assumption from the word "purchased".

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
