How can I still receive a text when everything is off?  Wi-fi is off, cellular is off, EVERYTHING IS OFF. I should be off the radar completely, and yet I still receive a text message.  How is that possible?

So, I'm not a noob when it comes to I-phone.  I haven an iphone 5-c.  I'm very cautious of privacy settings, etc.  99% of the time, I have everything turned off.  No matter what, if I have everything turned off, I will still get a text message.  How is that possible?  I do have I-message turned off, so the only thing that "should" get through would be an SMS message, but if my cellular is turned off, and my wi-fi is off...nothing else turned on....  How in the **** do I still receive a text?  When I have everything turned off, I can't make a call...I can't check my e-mail etc...So, how is this possible?
Please, help explain!  This is disturbing.

Thank you for your reply, but I guess I'm confused as to what that means.  I was under the assumption that if I turned off my cellular service in settings, as well as everything else, then my phone would technically be off.  As in OFF.  So, how would I turn my phone completely off from receiving calls and/or texts while it's still technically powered on?
Thanks again for any help.

Sure. Right click on the book in the left hand pane and choose 'Duplicate'. Then work on the duplicate.

switching off wifi and on again or going into airplane mode did't help!
This problem happens only with ad-hoc wifi networks not with normal ones.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Sorry, but the 169.x.x.x IP address is internally generated by the iPod (and iPhone) and indicates that a network has been detected but no IP address has been issued. Your friends iPhone was not connected to your ad hoc network either - it connected to the internet through the 3G network.
You should read through the Vista help screens on ad hoc networking for some insight how this works. You should be able to get some ideas there.
In the mean time, $40 or less will buy you a very capable wireless router with four Ethernet ports and will simplify your network tremendously. Having used Windows ICS for a long time, the addition of a router and a real network simplified things so much.

  • I synced to move all to a new computer but after I moved successfully, when I cleaned off the old one and forgot to undo sync it cleaned off my new one.

I successfully moved my info, favorites etc., to a new laptop with the sync feature, but when I cleaned off all my info from my old internet computer and forgot to undo the sync, it then synced and cleaned off my new one. Help! Can I get my favorites and other stuff back???

I can very well empathize and it hard for me to say it, but you can not get anything back - because there's nothing left anymore, at least not on Mozilla servers.

  • I got the MSCVR80.ddl message after I tried to do the latest update on Itunes.  I went in and deleted all the related programs and reinstalled, but I keep getting a message during installation that "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Help!

I was trying to do the latest update on my desktop for my Itunes.  I got MSVCR80.dll is missing.  I saw a post about deleting all the apple itunes programs, restarting and reinstalling.  I tried that.  As it was installing a message came up about "Service'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start systems services.  I did a retry, got the same message, then hit ignore.  It went on.  Then a message popped up saying "Itunes not installed correctly"  Error 7 (Windows error 126)
Now my Itunes program will not open at all.  What gives?  This is very frustrating and I am not very computer literate to begin with.

    Restart the app
Close the app and open it again.

  • TS2755 I can see my daughter's text messages, how do I stop it

I can see my daughter's text messages, how can I stop this from happening

It sounds like you have the same Apple ID signed into both devices.
You can go into Settings > Messages > Send and Receive at > Uncheck your daughters number and you will no longer receive those messages. Also make sure you uncheck her email address and on her device make sure your number is not selected.
What happens in iOS 6 is any number that is signed into Messages with Apple ID allows that number to be available for all devices with that Apple ID signed into iMessage.
    iOS: About Messages: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3529
"When you sign in to your Apple ID with iMessage using an iPhone with iOS 6, your Apple ID is linked to your phone number. This allows you to receive iMessages sent to your phone number on other iOS 6 devices signed in to the same Apple ID."

  • How can I stop my incoming text messages from going to my daughter's iphone?

How can I stop my incoming text messages from going to my daughter's iphone?  I have the 4s she has the 4.  When she got the latest update, everything on our phones synced.  She got her own apple id, but she is still getting all of my text messages.

This is with iMessages only, and because she has the same email address available and selected under You can be reached at at Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.

No, you can stop using the account, but you cannot delete it.

  • How can i print out old text messages?

how can i print out old text messages?

As Ann said, it does depend on your phone.  One third party app that works on many phones (especially older models, but not all phones) is BitPim ( http://www.bitpim.org/ ) but it can potentially harm/brick your phone if you don't know what you are doing - use it with caution.  I have used it successfully to get texts and photos off an old flip phone that was deactivated and had no sd card.
Newer smartphones can download apps that will give you the ability to print out texts.

  • How can I check my daugters text messages?

How can I check my Daughters text messages?  Her boyfriend is not the kind of boy I want her seeing but she is young and doesn't know what she wants.

    It is very simple.
depending on how old she is.  If she is a minor, then the phone is technically your property and under contract with you. If she is older then 18 then you could have some legal issues in trying to do this.
Either way, you can install SMS Backup on her phone or one of the other SMS apps.  SMS Backup will save a copy of every text message to a gmail account and you can simply read them from gmail.
I am not going to lecture on the ethical or legal part of this as I do track my son (for various reasons) with this (with 100% knowledge on his side)
