How can I stop apps from auto-syncing on one of my computers...?

Hi all
I have an ipad 2 that I sync to my MacBook Pro at home. I also have a few other computers on the same iTunes Store account. One of which is my work iMac 27inch (Lion and iTunes 10.5.2). Every morning when I turn on iTunes it trys to download the apps that I have downloaded from the appstore on my iPad. Some of these are quite big and I certainly dont need them on my work computer. I have turned off auto-syncing of everything on the iMac and iPad but every morning I have to manually go to the Downloads on the sidebar and pause/delete the active downloads. Even if I delete them they reappear the next time I open iTunes. Very annoying...??? Any ideas...???

Hah.... That was quick...! Seems to have worked too. Very easy. Annoyed with myself that I didnt see that.
Thanks a million

  • How can i stop iTunes from Auto rating my songs??

How can i stop iTunes from auto rating my songs in my library?? I have my library very organized and 90% of the time when i listen to music i play "My Top Rated" Playlist on shuffle. The only time i give stars ratings to my songs is for my favourite songs which i give 5 star and every other song is just left with no stars. For some reason iTunes is giving songs i have never played or i dont like 5 Stars and rewining my playlists. I have tried erasing all the stars from my entire library and since doing this a week ago, again (for the 4th time in a year) having a library with not 1 song with any star ratings, all of a sudden i now have 329 random songs with 5 stars again??????
This is really getting to me as i love my music and love iTunes and everything apple but seriously there has to be away to stop this so i can have my old playlists back!
Thanks hope some one can help

One reason itunes will start "at regular intervals" will be if you have an iphone that has sync via wifi enabled. I had the problem following an upgrade to iOS 5.

  • How can I stop safari from auto completing url's on my iphone 4 and ipad2?

How can I stop safari from auto completing url's on my iphone 4 and ipad2?  On both devices I have cleared history, I have gone into settings-safari-and cleared history and cleared cookies & data, tried turning my devices on and off and I also have private browsing turned on. Both devices are operating on iOS 5.  When I type in a url I don't want anything to show and auto complete.  Any suggestions?

    This indicates corrupt files.
    A restore should resolve.

  • How can I stop it from automatically syncing when I plug my iPod in?

Is there any way to stop iTunes from popping up and syncing my iPod when I plug it in? I have about 1000 songs that are misplaced and I do NOT want them all erased off of my iPod when I plug it in. Yet, all the ways that are explained mean that you have to plug your iPod into the computer and have iTunes open and sync it just so you can click the box telling it not to sync. ANY way around this? Please help.

Open the iTunes preferences and turn that option off, or press the Shift and Control keys while connecting the iPod to your computer, releasing them once the iPod appears.

  • How can I stop apps from opening automatically on start-up?

I liked Snow Leopard better.  When I quit, all the apps went away, and the new start-up was clean.
Lion forces me to wait for each app to open, unless I took the trouble to close it before shut down.
I turned Settings > General > Restore... off, but it doesn't help.

IF you want it (Resume) off system wide, there  are a couple of tweaks possible; here is one I have been using successfully since August:
Go to (now hidden) User Library (hold down Option key while going to "Go" in menu bar. Once Library is open, scroll down to Saved Application State folder. Open folder and trash all contents. Do a get info (Command + I keys), unlock lock at bottom of window, input admin password, scroll up and tick the "locked" option. Lock the lock at the bottom and you're done. With the folder locked, nothing can be written to it.....
I still make it a practice though to properly quit all applications. Since I've never worked with Windows, I've always been used to Cmd+Q any app I'm done with instead of just closing the window as it is practice in Windows. I do that because it has always been Mac OS behavior to open up automatically whatever window that was open when you shut down or restarted.

  • How can I stop apps from automatically opening the most recent file?

Why do apps running under OSX insist on loading the last-opened file whenever you start them up?
I've seen this now with Preview and QuickTime so far and it's really annoying. If I double click a file to preview or play it, why would I want the last files I'd viewed to also reopen without my asking for it?
    Really annoying...

To switch off the "Restore windows ..." generally is the "brute force method".
With some apps, this behavior is really a benefit (e.g. Terminal, Texteditors, ...).
So you might decide to selectively switch off this behavior for each app, that should not restore:
    see link:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/161330/2011/07/four_lion_terminal_hacks.html
    e.g. for Preview:
defaults write com.apple.Preview NSQuitAlwaysKeepsWindows -bool false
I guess this will soon be available as an option in each apps GUI-preferences.

  • How can I stop firefox from auto discovering printers on fedora?

On Linux Fedora (19 & 20 at least, likely others) Firefox automatically finds network attached printers, completely independently of CUPS. The printer it finds for me is legitimate, but it doesn't install drivers to make it work correctly. If this printer is used, it will print out gibberish; sometimes PDF control language, other times total junk. It won't render the page right, and wastes tons of paper.
    Thanks!

How can I STOP iTunes from automatically trying to add podcasts to my iPod when I plug it in and sync it, so I can manage the files? I have already unchecked "Sync Podcasts" and "Automatically include,"yet EVERY time I sync it,it still transfers podcasts as the last step, and at other times randomly, when trying to just add some MP3's to a playlist, for example.  I can't seem to find any other option to uncheck, and can't find an answer from my so-far internet searching.

erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.

How can i stop icloud from downloading all my photos onto my iphone 4s each time I sync. Then, how do I delete them from my phone, there are no delete options. I'm slowly going crazy.

    Hi iprover,
Let me first say that I am NO EXPERT with anything Apple and really have only started looking into this iCloud stuff a few hours ago because I'm trying to help my mom free up some space on her iCloud. But anyway, here's what I'm learning and what I THINK might be happening to you.
Also, if any Apple support people (do they browse the forums to dish out helpful hints?) or people who probably know infinitely more than me about this stuff, please do chime in and confirm / correct my statements!
    This is what I gather.
iCloud for Windows is set up with a local folder (let's call it "C:\Users\Administrator\Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream") where iCloud will store photos uploaded to the Photo Stream. This will allow you to view your Photo Stream photos on your PC.
This does not mean that this is a PC backup of your Photo Stream photos, but just a way to view your Photo Stream from your PC. That being said, the general Photo Stream rules apply: 1. No videos are on the photo-stream, and 2. Photos on the Photo Stream will be removed after ~30 days and/or after hitting the Photo Stream limit of 1000 photos.
My guess is that the iCloud Windows App will delete photos from the local folder that are older than ~30 days and/or delete all but the most recent 1000 items if the 1000-item limit is reached.
That is a scary thought! I really hope you did not lose all your pictures, but my guess is that the iCloud local folder is NOT meant for backup but instead is the iCloud Windows App's sandbox for updating and managing Photo Stream photos.
All that being said, I'd say it's important to back up your photos in a separate folder not related to the iCloud local folder.

  • How can I stop iTunes from transferring purchased apps from iPad to computer?

How can I stop iTunes from transferring purchased apps from iPad to my computer? I don't want them taking up space on my computer. iPad backups and apps on the cloud are enough to ensure my apps are backed up, so I don't understand why they need to be on iTunes too. I'm running Mavericks, iTunes 11.1.5 and iOS 7.0.6.

There isn't an app for that!
As far as I can tell there is no option to give you that control. It is worth noting that apps can be withdrawn from the store at any time. Should your device need restoring you need all the apps in your library to transfer to it before the app data can be successfully restored. Pulling that all down from the cloud would be time consuming.
If space is becoming an issue you should consider moving the library to a bigger drive (which you should also backup to another).
As a temporary measure you could try deleting some larger apps using Finder from within iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications while keeping the entries in your library. iTunes may complain during syncs that it cannot copy apps to the device because they cannot be found, but it should not clear them from the device. Test first on a single app that doesn't have any data that you would mind losing in case the behavior has changed from the last time I tested it.

  • When syncing iPhone 5s pictures, how can I stop it from backing that album up on my phone?

When I'm syncing my phone to my laptop, how can I stop it from adding a backup album back to my phone?

    Foxolini wrote:
I want to delete songs off of my computr because it's taking up unnecessary space, but how can I do this without them being removed from my iPhone when I sync it next?
As given, removing from the library causes the songs to be removed during sync. So the space taken up is neccessary... What would you do if your iPhone where lost, stolen, damaged or needed to be restored?
If you ned more room for storage buy a bigger drive. In fact buy two, one to use as a backup for your library and all your other important files.

When I sync my iPad to download new pictures to my library, my existing library gets deleted. How can I stop this from happening?

The way I sync mine is to have an 'master' folder on my computer, and underneath it I have separate folders for the photos that I want to sync to the iPad - I then select the master folder in iTunes and the folders underneath it are synced to the iPad, each getting their own album.
There is some info on syncing folders on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
