How can I stop Firefox from automatically downloading and installing updates?????? UN-Checking box when installing for auto DOESN"T WORK!!!!

Have many performance problems with latest versions of Firefox.
I remove fFrefox and reinstall 18.0 and everything is fine until Firefox automatically updates to 28.x.
I remove check in box when asked if want Firefox Maintenance installed, but downloads updates anyway and next time I bring-up then problems are back!!!
I have to start over again and never X Firefox.
I just want the basic Firefox - simple, FAST and WORKS !!!
Never liked IE - but may have to go back to it.
Chrome is also automatic download update.
using XP, but may have to rethink
Thanks for any help.

What kind of problems do you have with the Firefox 28 release?
Did you check your security software (firewall, anti-virus) to make sure that the new version in allowed?
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
See:
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Server+not+found
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Firewalls
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/fix-problems-connecting-websites-after-updating
You can create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

    How can I STOP iTunes from automatically trying to add podcasts to my iPod when I plug it in and sync it, so I can manage the files? I have already unchecked "Sync Podcasts" and "Automatically include,"yet EVERY time I sync it,it still transfers podcasts as the last step, and at other times randomly, when trying to just add some MP3's to a playlist, for example.  I can't seem to find any other option to uncheck, and can't find an answer from my so-far internet searching.

    erict, you blew me away with that suggestion! It was something so simple I couldnt believe I hadnt thought of it! But in the end it didn't work, which I was really surprised about. On Windows anytime anything was moved itunes was hoplessly lost, but on this mac it still kept up with everything. I tried renaming folders, moving folders, and even renaming moved folders but it still kept trying to import.
    I even went as far as deleting EVERYTHING i had moved to the Mac, which didnt really work. It still kept trying to import what wasnt there which made it continue to freeze up. However, after doing this it, the freezing was not nearly as bad. It gave me enough of a break to cancel it through the itunes dialog box at the top of the app. So in the end, thats all I really needed to do, only before I had deleted everything the freezing would not allow me to do it.
    So now Im reimporting everything again, only slowly, and only a few Artists at a time.

  • How can I stop iMovie from automatically cropping and applying kens burns to my photos?

    When I import stills into iMovie, it automatically adds a kens burns effect to each photo, and crops them. If I want to get rid of these effects, I have to do it manually for each individual photo. This takes alot of time and is very tedious to do. Is there a way that I can stop iMovie from automatically adding these effects? Or maybe a way that I can undo these effects on all photos at the same time?

    in the iMovie Project settings/pref, you can switch-off the automatic applying of KB

  • How can I STOP Firefox from automatically resuming a discontinued download, from a previous session, when I resume using Firefox?

    Firefox automatically resumes ANY and ALL discontinued downloads whenever I get back online. Sometimes, a file is loading way too slowly, and I just want it to stop. Firefox NEVER permits this. The damn thing just starts reloading again, even days after I originally abandoned it.

    The default is to pause a download and resume the download automatically the next time.
    You can set the browser.download.manager.quitBehavior pref to 2 on the about:config page.
    That will make Firefox ask for confirmation if you want to cancel the download when you close Firefox.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.download.manager.quitBehavior

  • How can I stop pages from automatic reloading, I am aware of the option in advanced, but it does not work for pages like Yahoo News and Drudge Report.

    I am trying to stop pages from being able to automatically reload. Sites such as Drudge Report and now Yahoo News anre reloading before I have a chance to read them and it confuses me due to a disability besides just being annoying. I have found the option in tools-advanced-accessibility and checked it but they still reload. And I did close Firefox and restart.
    I am using version 3.6.8 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722
    Thanks

    The Drudge Report site has a script to reload after 3 minutes:
    var timer = setInterval("autoRefresh()", 1000 * 60 * 3);
    function autoRefresh(){self.location.reload(true);}
    The Yahoo page probably has something similar.
    You can try NoScript to see if you can block that refresh.

  • How can I stop firefox from requesting me to verify or change my password when I log into Monster?

    Whenever I log into my Monster account the first thing that pops up is do you want to change your password? Change Dont Change. I have to click on one of the boxes before this will go away. It is very annoying and I would like to have it removed.

    The site may be using JavaScript to make changes to the password field that cause Firefox to display the update dialog.

  • How do I stop firefox from automatically placing the cursor in a textbox?

    How do I stop Firefox from automatically placing the cursor in a text box? On certain pages such as Google.com the cursor will be moved to the search text box automatically after a couple seconds from the page loading. So I'll be typing in the address bar or something and then half of what I am typing in the address bar becomes cut off and starts being entered in the Google.com text box for search. The same happens on Facebook.com and the cursor is automatically moved to the Status Update text box. I assume this is a built in "feature" of the web page, but it's damn annoying. Especially when I start typing in my status update box on Facebook before the page completely loads and then halfway through typing (once the page is done loading) my cursor is moved to the starting position of the text area and my text is cut off.
    Just the be clear the actual mouse pointer isn't being moved, just the prompt for entering text.
    How can this be stopped?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Started since I can remember

    This problem has grown worse over the last couple of years. I use Firefox on Mac and Windows. I consider this problem to be a bug. Here's why: Event Driven interfaces, e.g., OSX and Windows, are never supposed to change typing-cursor focus WHILE SOMEONE'S TYPING!!!
    Firefox allows websites to change focus WHILE USERS TYPE!
    Hey, sorry for the caps, but I haven't used those for awhile and that's kind of fun. But really, more and more websites steal typing-cursor focus WHILE USERS TYPE.
    Efff them, but really, Eff Firefox for allowing this.
    It's almost like a symptom of our hyper scattered age where our attention jumps here and there.
    But really... I love Firefox, some of my best friends are Firefox, they're good people, don't get me wrong, but damn it, WHEN SOMEONE IS TYPING THE UNASSAILABLE RULE OF EVENT DRIVEN DESIGN IS NOTHING ELSE SHOULD CHANGE FOCUS WHILE SOMEONE IS TYPING!!!!
    FIX THIS PLEASE.
    Oh, I just ran out of capital letters. :) :) :)

    How can I stop Firefox from automatically upgrading? My on-line college is not compatible with the upgraded version. I have to keep uninstalling the new one and reinstalling the old one.

    It's not a good idea to allow websites to redirect to another site until you know for sure the original site is trustworthy.
    But if you still want to do it (again not a good idea).
    Tools>Options>Advanced>General - In Accessibility, uncheck "warn me when web sites try to redirect..." option.

    You can also manage all permissions on the about:permissions page via the location bar.<br />
    Use "All Sites" to set the defaults.
    You can open about:xxxx pages via the location bar like you open a website.<br />
    Firefox uses the about: protocol to access internal Firefox (setting) pages.

  • How can I STOP Firefox from being a glutton with my virtual memory?

    How can I STOP Firefox from being a glutton with my virtual memory?

    Yes. But, I see from the THOUSANDS of responses here concerning Firefox memory issues that other people have had no more success than I have at trying to STOP Firefox's memory gluttony. The fact that Firefox runs fine (like the good old days) for a while after re-booting and registry cleaning shows that something is going on beyond the trivial/ineffective suggestions offered in the referenced links.
    Having to re-boot several times a day to get Firefox out of the molasses is such a pain, that it's no wonder people are going back to IE, or like me, reluctantly relying more and more on Google Chrome.

    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
