How can I stop unidentified communication between my iMac and internet?

Two days ago, I replaced the hard drive on my 17" Intel iMac Model A1208 EMC 2114, reinstalled 10.6, and performed all the updates indicated by Software Update to bring my installation up to Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549). This includes Java for Mac OS X10.6 Update 17. I do not have a security suite installed because the Symantec Enpoint Protection I was using was provided by my university because I recently graduated and attempts to update got me "license expired" notices. It took me about a day to realize the Firewall was not on. Yesterday, I noticed this traffic (revealed with Terminal command: sudo lsof |grep TCP | grep ESTAB)

I used Network Utility Whois to find that 192.168.1.2 is...

Ok, thanks. I ended up reinstalling the system anyway to remedy some other things, and the very first thing I did after re-installing 10.6 was to put up the firewall and shut Java off. I imported many fewer items from my backup with Migration Assistant to to ensure a "cleaner" install. I haven't seen the same traffic again, but I suppose I might in the future. I was under the impression that Apple did infrequent "bulk" updates to Java and since I had already installed the latest update as it appeared in Software Update, I was not expecting any other kind of update, and especially not some surreptitious-looking background update from an IP I could not associate with Apple.

I don't want to set up two completely separate accounts.

When you say you have a shared library... you mean you have a networked external hard drive that you are sharing?
In iTunes, generally...when the term Shared Library is used, it's speaking to sharing a specific computer's library over the network with different computer.
I would think it would be better to do what ya'll have been doing (one log in acct/one computer) and have her create her own Apple acct and each of you log in and out whenever purchasing music apps etc. and then setup individual playlists and pick specific playlists to sync with each individual iPhone.

Okay, I haven't found a way to add an extra space using Find/replace, but you might be able to add some text wrap to the check boxes that will push the text away from them.
Open Find/Replace and click the Object tab.
Click the Specify attributes to find button to the right of the Find Object Format: field.
Under Basic Attributes, choose Stroke and then the Black swatch (assuming the black swatch is applied to the strokes of your check boxes). If there are no other stand-alone objects in your form with a Black stroke, this should be all you need. (If there are Black strokes on your table cells, they will be ignored.)
Click OK
Click the Specify attributes to change button to the right of the Change Object Format: field.
Under Basic Attributes, choose Text Wrap & Other > Text Wrap > Type: > Wrap around bounding box (2nd button from left)
Under Offset, set a Right offset at the distance you'd like to add (I don't know what units you use, but the 3-5 points might work for your purposes...might take some trial-and-error to get it where you want)
Click OK
Click Change All

While we are working on Delegate(provider) for JAXWS client handler in Weblogic10 , we have some technical issues and need some assistance.
Problem Description
In OUTBound of a provider, how can we stop the provider invoking its endpoint and send a response back?
Example:
I have a provider with some handlers configured for both IN and OUT flows. When the Jaxws provider is making a request, the OUTBound Handler gets invoked and in this Handler I would like to stop invoking actual endpoint and send back my own response. That means I should be able to tell the Handler chain to stop further processing of this flow, set a response message into message exchange and invoke the IN flow. How do I do that?
This kind of mediation/interception is possible in standard specifications like JAX-WS, Servlets etc… wondering if Weblogic10 JAXWS provides any sort of this kind.
Also we would like to know who is invoking a provider endpo int in JAXWS stack in weblogic10? Is it an OUTBound handler at the end of handler chain or some other transport component after the handler chain?

I completely agree with this....I have used Windows and Skype for many years. I recently installed an older version of Skype to run on Windows 8.1 because the new version is SO AWFUL. As much as I prefer the older version (6.14), the daily number of SPAM CONTACT requests is rediculous and most are just variations of the same spammer. Maybe it is time to look for a replacement for both?

Maybe it is a hardware problem, but you will not know that unless you start eliminating all possible software issues. Try this. Close all apps in the recents tray and reboot your iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Besides all of that, you can purchase Apple Care which will extend your warranty to 3 years just like you can on a brand new iMac.
If you're considering a "refurbished" iMac, buy it ONLY from Apple. I believe it's your best bet.

I have downloaded the AIR settings manager and set it up to stop auto-updates, but it seems that AIR is still intermittently trying to connect to the Internet.

Sorry for the delayed response but I've asked around about this and it appears to be as designed. When turning off updates with the AIR settings manager, it's actually just the installer that is blocked. The network communication still occurs, but when the AIR installer is told that an update is available it aborts when it finds the presense of the settings manager file.

How can I stop Firefox from asking me over and over (even on pages with no flash content) to install Flash? I don't want Flash installed and this stupid pop-up.

So even when I load up websites (like ones we here at my job have created) with very simple HTML and absolutely nothing Flash related, I still get a pop-up asking me to install flash (pops down from the URL bar at left.) How can I stop this without disabling all plug-in updates?
Moreover, why in the name of all that's good is it asking me about Flash when I have no pages open with anything remotely Flash like on them?

I do not see why this should happen because of Firefox. Maybe you have some sort of adware on your system.

Finally I got a solution from an Apple guy today. First we did the following steps on an iPad and then on iPhone.
Basically, it comes down to this:
general/restore/ erase all content and settings
set up the iPhone/iPad as a new device
type your iCloud account info
once everything is up and running, wait for a while and first check on contacts, calendars, notes if it's syncing with the iCloud, then open safari and look for the other device. In my case it worked and iPad finally detected iPhone and I could see the safari tabs from the iPhone on the iPad.
But then, Iphone still couldn't detect the iPad, so the guy said the original problem was probably in iPhone. And so we did the whole thing again on iPhone and then I finally had my tabs from all devices visible on every device.
