It does not matter where the songs came from, they are not yours and the previous owner does not own the right to distribute them to others.
The law is the same with downloads and cds and any other medium.

The other responder gave you a program that will transfer stuff from your iPod to your new computer. You can transfer iTunes purchaces to your new computer by:

After you move your stuff to your new computer you will have to let iTunes erase your iPod and then sync with the stuff that is now in your iTunes library. You will loose app data though.

How is your iPod configured to sync content from your iTunes library? Any error messages during the sync process?
You may want to reset warnings on the device by right->clicking on it under Devices and choosing Reset Warnings. Then resync the iPod to see if any alerts appear.

You might consider itunes match for moving CDs you've copied into your itunes library if you dont have a way to use home sharing.
iTunes match is an optional service offered by apple that costs about $25 a year. It scans your music library and if it finds music that is already in apple's itunes catalog it'll automatically "unlock"/"store" these in the cloud for you. If you created one or more playlists for your shuffle in your iTunes library (with the songs in the desired playlist order), you should set up automatic syncing. Here's how to do that, if you have not already...
