How can i sync my ipod to my new computer without erasing itunes 11

Hi,
I formatted my computer, I then installed iTunes 11. I then found out that I can't manually sync music to it as I did in the beggining.
Question is how can I sync it without erasing my songs.
Thanks,
Computer600

iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • I have just changed my computer as my old one died... but now cannot access my old itunes account so i have set up a new one with another email address. how can I sync my ipod to my new computer without wiping all my music ?

I have just tried to sync my ipod to a new computer as my old one died but as I cannot remember my previous log in I created a new itunes account. I now want to sync but it says it will wipe my music off my ipod. Does anyone know how I can do this now ?

If you have purchases on your iPod Shuffle that you want to sync back to iTunes, but are under the Apple ID you no longer have access to, you'll need to reset that account information. You can use this link to reset your password.
    https://iforgot.apple.com/
If that doesn' work or help, you'll need to contact iTunes support and have them walk you through the process of resetting the older account information.  Once you know the email and password again, you can authorize your new computer and transfer any purchases from this account back to iTunes.
For all non-iTunes purchased content, you'll need to the assistance of some sort of third party software that is not supported by Apple. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • How can I sync my ipod to a new computer without having to wipe everything off it?

When I am connecting my ipod classic to my new computer it keeps coming up that I can only sync with one computer and in order to sync with this one I need to erase everything off the ipod. Is there anyway to sync without having to loose everything??

What you should do is copy everything currently on the iPod to your iTunes library first.  Once you have successfully done that, you can go ahead and chose Erase and Sync.

  • How do I sync my iPod to a new computer without erasing all of the data and starting my library over?

I had a PC that crashed and recently bought a MacBook to replace it.  When I tried to import the music from my iPod to my MacBook I got the error message that iPods can only be synced to one computer at a time and I was then given two options: either erase the data currently on my iPod and allow it to sync to the new computer or transfer previous purchases.  I cicked transfer previous purchases but not all of my music transferred.  How can I get ALL of my music on my iPod to transfer to my MacBook??

how do i sync my ipod touch with my computer without erasing all of the music already on the ipod

Sanmannyer, just what are you smoking? iTunes can sync non-iTunes purchased music to any iPod and iOS devices (iPod touch, iPhone and iPad) as long as it is not DRM protected.
Would y plase stop posting incorrect information.

what the heck dude? That only works for ipod shuffles and not for ipod touch. U cant use itunes to copy non-purhased songs from ipod touch to pc. u have to use a 3rd party application like syncios to do so.

  • Help! How can i sync my ipod with a new computer?

how do i sync my ipod touch with a new computer?  the old computer it was synced with is completely broken.  I don't want to loose any songs, especially the ones I didn't buy on itunes.

For music obtained from other than the iTunes Music Store, you need to browse the app store and purchase an app intended for that very purpose.  I'm unable to recommend one because I've never had reason to use such an app.  DO THIS FIRST!
For songs purchased from iTunes, simply do a sync to the new computer.  A box will appear asking if you wish to transfer purchases.  If, for whatever reason, that fails, this is "Plan B."

  • How can I connect my ipod to a new computer without deleting all my music

I just got a brand new laptop and when I connected my ipod and iphone 4 it prompts to syns a delete everything.  How can I avoid that.  I tried using the manual setting, but once I press apply it asks again to sync and delete all my music. Is there any other way to accomplish this?

That's exactly the way it is designed to work.
When you attempt to sync your iDevice with a new computer/library, iTunes will wipe the contents of the device and replace it with the contents from the library on the new computer.
To avoid losing content, first copy or move the media from your old computer to your new computer.  Once this is done, the iDevice can be synced without worrying about iTunes removing the content as it can be synced back.

  • How can I sync my iphone to a new computer without losing music

I have heaps of music from my old work computer on my phone. I want to sync to my computer at home now. How can I do this without losing the music and other data???

To sync to a new computer without losing your data follow the steps outlined by Ingo2711 in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3801263?tstart=0.  However, as pointed out in this post, music not purchased from iTunes syncs only one way: computer --> phone.  (Music purchased from iTunes can always be redownloaded for free (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519).  You will have to purchase 3rd party software in order to transfer non-purchased music from your phone to your computer, such as Touch Copy.

  • HT1420 Can't sync my ipod with my new computer without it prompting me to erase files on my ipod

Everytime I try to connect my ipod to my new computer with the usb cable, it says this ipod is already synced to another computer and asks if I want to erase files already on my ipod or play songs authorized for this computer.  I have a lot of music on my ipod that isn't in my itunes library, and I don't want to lose those songs.  I there anyway to unsync my old computer without having to turn it back on?  It crashed on me a while back and can't be used anymore..

Yes, it will. You need to move your iTunes folder from your old computer to the new computer. You will find it in the /Home/Music/ folder. Copy the entire iTunes folder to an external drive then restore it on the new computer to the same location (overwrite any existing iTunes folder there.) iTunes will now find your old library in the expected location.
If you migrate your old Home folder to the new computer then this will assure that everything continues working as it was on the old computer.

  • How can I sync my phone to a new computer without everything being deleted?

I just got a new macbook pro, and i want to sync my phone to the itunes on here. i dont have my old computer which i previously synced my phone to. I haven't synced my phone in over 2 years but i am getting the 5s soon and want to be able to transfer my music to it. however, every time i choose to sync my phone to my laptop it tells me i will have to delete all the music i have purchased. i have over 600 songs and many apps... how can i sync my phone without losing everything?

    You cannot.
    This is how it works.
You should copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone to your itunes.  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
