I have a MacBook running both Windows XP Pro (Boot Camp) and Mac OS 10.4.9 and I have installed iTunes on both platforms. I have my iTunes Library and songs on an external drive (which I can "see" in Windows via MacDrive), and which I wish to keep in place to save space on my MacBook. Trouble is I cannot get my Windows iTunes to recognize the song files on my Maxtor external drive, even when I point iTunes to these files in the "Advanced" pane of Preferences.
How can I utilize the one song folder by synchronizing the two sets of iTunes so I can listen to music on whichever platform I happen to be working on?
I have tried placing an alias of the iTunes song folder in my iTunes folder in "My Music" in Windows but this does not work.

When I look at iTunes from my account (my music is in ~/Music/iTunes/ and not available to my spouse's account), I can see in my music library all my rips and my purchases, just as I would expect. I can use Store>View My Account (<myAppleID>) and all is as expected. Home sharing is NOT on.
Doing the same from the other account is not much different, actually. Nothing in the library yet, of course. Store>View My Account (<herAppleID>) also works. I CAN authorize my computer to play her music. I CAN view her iTunes purchases. When I attempt to download the purchases to HER library, though, I get the following dialog box:
Now I interpret this to mean that this computer (mine) will not download from a different AppleID (also mine) for 90 days. Is that [interpretation] correct?

How can I combine two iTunes media folders without losing media?

I have two media folders. One on an external drive that I used on an old PC before migrating to a new one, and my internal HDD on the new PC. My internal drive became nearly full so I had to start using my external drive and iTunes media folder again. So, right now iTunes looks to my internal drive for most of the media and my external drive for some of it. Now, I need to move all the media files back to the external drive and, hopefully, in one place. The primary challenge is that I don't know how to move the media files (and metadata) efficiently. I just don't know which folders have been affected and so a standard copy -> paste won't work because the PC will try to overwrite the folders and I have no idea which ones can be overwritten and which can't. Ugh...does this make sense? Thank you!!!

You can indeed switch between two different iTunes libraries, and this article outlines how:
iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
If you're using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu, choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
If you're using a Mac, open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option key.

When I received an iPad2 at work, I was required to have/initiate an account during the setup process. I couldn't remember what email address my personal iTunes account was under, so I set up another and began using it to load required and desired apps on my iPad. Openning my windows laptop for the first time in months, I now see that my personal iTunes account was under a really old email address (which is why I couldn't recall it at work).
The (old) personal account has many podcasts and personal music, yet the new iPad account is linked to my work apps. Is it possible to merge the two?

I have the same issue, but it seems that Apple will not let you merge itunes accounts. Refer to this FAQ, specifically the text below:
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

Now I have to add that this is rather disappointing as I have some purchases on my old itunes account which I would like to merge into my current iTunes account (which was created due to an oversight). The oversight was, I thought my original iTunes was converted to @me.com one when I signed up for the 90 day trial to use mobileme services.

Two years ago Apple support suggested moving my iTunes folder out of my Home folder to the HD level in order to share it across users. This is no longer necessary. How do I move my music back to my Home folder since now I have an Itunes folder at the HD level (along with application, library, system, users folders) and an Itunes folder under Music in my Home folder. For example both those itunes folders have a mobile application, album artwork, and previous itunes library subfolder as well as itunes library extras.itdb and itunes library genius.itdb. How do I merge them or which ones do I delete? The files in the mobile app folder in my Home folder have a newer "last modified" date. Currenty under Itunes-->Preferences-->Advanced, it says Itunes media location is /itunes/itunes media/ music. I assumes that is the HD level folder. What happens if I hit reset?
I am using Itunes 10.6.3.

If you are willing to continue helping, here's what I found.
Just to clarify the two iTunes folders I am refering to are:
username-->Music-->iTunes
HD-->iTunes
I am presuming each location has a full set of files as outlined in the above links?
Not all the files are in both locations. Most are.
- The Itunes folder in my home folder does not have itunes library.xml.
- The Itunes folder in my home folder has a subfolder called Mobile Applications (username-->Music-->iTunes--> Mobile application). The Itunes folder at the HD level also has a Mobile Application folder but it is a subfolder of Itunes Media folder (HD-->iTunes--> iTunes Media-->Mobile applications) and has no files in it.
- I do not have an iTunes Media in the iTunes folder in my home folder.
- also the Itunes media folder (HD-->iTunes--> iTunes Media) has subfolders by type (books, movies, itunes u, music etc...) but the iTunes Media-->Music also has some of the same subfolders ( iTunes Media-->Music-->books, iTunes Media-->Music-->Movies, iTunes Media-->Music-->iTunes U). Is this normal repetition?

but it is important to note what comes before all that.
There is nothing as far as I can tell before that first forward slash. Since the only iTunes Media folder I have is in the iTunes folder that resides at the HD level (HD-->iTunes--> iTunes Media folder) not the iTunes folder in my home folder (username-->Music-->iTunes) , I assume that's the one that holds the music.
Keep iTunes media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library are both checked on

Sorry - you can't. You can keep the music from each iTunes account in the same library, but the purchased items will always be "owned" by the iTunes ID under which they are purchased.
My husband and I both purchase music and other stuff on his Mac in iTunes under our own iTunes IDs. Both IDs are authorized to the Mac, and everything is housed in one iTunes library. I can download his music, and he can download mine.
However, if, say, some of the music was removed from the library and we wanted to get it back in there, we would each individually have to go to our Purchased list to download the items that we purchased in order to get them all back into the library.

How do I get her iTunes configured to download her music and apps to sync with her devices without destroying my own music and apps in the process? How can I Synchronize two counters in CVI using NI-DAQmx

Hi, I am new to NI-DAQmx, and I would like to program counting of random digital pulses using two counters in LabWindowsCVI and a PCI6229 multifunction card. I have the evaluation copy for CVI 7.1
I would like to set counter0, to count pulses from the 10MHz clock, to generate a single pulse (duration in the few ms timescale), that will gate counter1 in the same card.
When I try to route the output from counter0 to the gate of counter1 I get an error code
(-89137, "The specified route can not be satisfied because it requires resources that are currently in use by another route").
How can one do the equivalent of the "Select_Signal()" in the traditional NI-DAQ?"
I have also a hard time seting the counter0 to actually count a number of clock cycles from the 10 MHz clock.
What is the NI-DAQmx equivalent of the function "GPCTR_Change_Parameter()" to program a counter to count a predefined number of clock cycles?
Any suggestions are welcome.

It sounds like you're programming for an M Series card with counter operations and need a bit of help with DAQmx functions.
In order to count edges of the 10MHz reference clock you will need to use a format similar to that found in the CVI shipping example "CntDigEv.prj." This is found in the NI Example Finder (Help>>Find Examples) under Hardware Input and Output>>DAQmx>>Counter Measurements>>Count Digital Events. In order to measure pulses from a source rather than the default input terminal (ctrXsource where X is the counter number), you will need to use the function DAQmxSetCICountEdgesTerm(taskhandle char[] counter, char source terminal) as follows:
DAQmxErrChk (DAQmxCreateTask("",&taskHandle));
DAQmxErrChk (DAQmxCreateCICountEdgesChan(taskHandle,chan,"",edge,initialCount,countDirection));
DAQmxErrChk (DAQmxSetCICountEdgesTerm(taskHandle, "/Dev2/Ctr0", "/Dev2/10MHzRefClock"));
What type of operation are you trying to perform on counter 1? The strategy for routing signals will change based on this. If you're trying to perform gated counting you can specify the the task similarly as above and use the terminal "/DevN/Ctr0InternalOutput" as before. If you are trying to perform frequency measurement you will need to use the DAQmxGetCIFreqTerm function.
Other channel properties are listed conveniently in the NI-DAQmx C Reference Help found at Start>>Programs>>National Instruments>>NI-DAQ on your start menu. A search for "channel properties list" returns this list.

I currently live in a country but I've grown up in another country. When I set up my iTunes account I provided the details of the country where I live; however it happens that songs or magazines I would like to buy are only available in the iTunes store of the country where I grown up.
Can anybody help me in setting up two accounts in the two different stores in a way that all purchases are merged and I can see both on my iPhone / iPad?
I have credit cards for both countries.

I do have problems to synchronize my mp3 files which I do have on my pc with my ipad2. iTunes is already installed on the PC (and the mp3 files are already included there). iPad2 2 is connected with the pc. Nevertheless I am not able to shift the mp3 files to the iPad2. What am I doing wrong?

You need to use an IMAP set-up, and not POP. Go to your email provider and find out if they support IMAP.

How can I consolidate two iTunes libraries onto one disc?

OK... here's the deal...
I am permanently in a nursing home and was only available to bring my MacBook Pro to my new "home"... however, I had a back-up of my Intel iMac's iTunes library on a small 250GB portable drive so what I would like to do is:
1) re-direct my iTunes folder to my 'old' large 'main' iTunes library, and;
2) somehow consolidate the 'new' library on my MBP to that library (about 12 gigs) without having to open each track to add it to the 'newest' library.
I don't think that this is what "Consolidate Library,,," does, is it? I'm afraid to try as that "This cannot be undone." is rather daunting.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Fortunately, this won't affect my iPod as there's no way (yet) to put 120GB on a 60GB iPod!

I've been doing a similar thing recently. Have you tried importing either through home sharing on itunes or just transferring what you need by accessing the other MacBook if you mount it in your shared places? Takes a while wirelessly but should get it done..... I think!
