How can I tell if a iPhone 4 is factory unlocked without breaking the seal?

Hey guys
A friend of mine brought in some iPhone 4s and he "claims" they are factory unlocked. Im going by his place tomorrow to see if they are because I'd like to purchase one. Is there any specific number or code on the box to tell if it is factory unlocked? Id hate to pay for it to find out that it's not.

The only way to know is to go to a place that is actually authorized to sell factory unlocked phones. More than likely your friend has bought hacked phones that he is looking to resell for a profit.
Also, the warranty is only valid in the country of origin. If these phones came from anywhere else, you will need to take the phone back to that country if you have any issues.

    Ask the vendor where you bought your iPhone, they can tell you if it is locked, and if so, when you can have it unlocked. If  you don't know, where the phone originally was bought, you can also contact Apple and have them verify the serial number of your iPhone against their database. If it has a carrier lock, they will know.
    Please note that if your phone does have a carrier lock, only the carrier, who had implemented the lock, can authorize Apple to remove it.

    Only the carrier to whom the iPhone is locked can officially unlock it. Verizon and Sprint will do so only for international roaming and only for customers who have an account in good standing with them, so if you got a Verizon or Sprint iPhone, you would be best advised to return the gift and hope the sender can still return the iPhone, or sell it if they cannot. AT&T does permanent unlocks of iPhones for use with any compatible carrier, but you will have to 1) determine if you have an AT&T iPhone and if you do 2) contact them and ask if you can get the iPhone unlocked.

    I have a MacBook Air that has been upgraded over time from OS to OS. I'm currently running Yosemite.
    I don't have any issues with the computer, it is running fine.     What I'd love to do (assuming it is possible) is reset all of the web server's factory settings so I can just move forward from that point (Apache, PHP, MySQL, etc.).
    I saw there was a terminal command for OS X Server that allows you to reset all of the server settings to how it came from the factory.
    Is there a similar command that works for non-OS X Server or a utility that can restore the web server settings?

    there probably is a way, but the success rate would be fairly low. you say you don't want to reinstall the OS, why? you know that reinstalling it keeps all your files and settings as they are, while resetting system files? (OS X Mavericks: Reinstall OS X)

    If it is a 3Gs from AT&T it is locked. It could have been "unofficially" unlocked (what iOS version is on it?) but if you upgrade it will relock to AT&T.
    AT&T will not unlock iPhones period. Contact the seller and get your money back.
