How can I tell if I am connected through "N" or "G"

I have the latest Leopard 10.5.2 and a Airport Extreme with "N". My question is how do I check to make sure I am connected by "N" and not "G"?

Using Airport Utility, connect to your main base station.
At this window, click on "Wireless Clients" near the bottom.
The new window will show you what each computer or device that is connected the:
1. Client
2. Signal
3. Noise
4. Rate
Basically, If you are running a b/g/n network, the "Rate" will be something like this:
54 for b/g connected clients
130 to 144 for "n" connected clients
If you are running only "n", then you should see 300 "Rate" but of course only "n" clients would be connected....

how can I tell the device is connected to itunes 12?  I have Windows 8.  I hear that the device is connected, but don't see the device to manage.  Only thing that happens is on the phone it says Trust the computer..   I say Trust and nothing happens.

in ituens at the top where you see the small icons for Music, Movies, TV etc when your device is connected you will see a small icon representing your phone or ipad etc popup click that and it will show you the usual interface for backup and syncing.
if that doesnt happen, like it didint for me initially, you should close itunes fully via task manager if you know how to do this and start it again with the device unplugged then plug it in after itunes has finished loading.
Worst case scenario you nee to resatrt

  • How can I tell if I'm connected at 5ghz??

I just bought an Airport Extreme and realize that it can connect at 2.4 or 5ghz, but how can I tell which it's connected to?
    Thanks!

Your computer is connecting at 2.4 GHz because it "sees" that as the better quality signal where it is located. 5 GHz signals are absorbed by walls, ceilings and any obstructions much more quickly than 2.4 GHz signals.
Unless you are relatively near the AirPort Extreme and have close to line-of-sight between your computer and the AirPort Extreme, your computer will likely connect at 2.4 GHz.
Are you asking if you can "force" your computer to connect to the 5 GHz band even though it may not be the best signal?

  • How can i airplay from my mac connected through ethernet to an aple tv 2 on wifi

    Hi everyone..
im having troubles using Airplay on my mac.. i connect my mac to the internet and home network using an ethernet connection to my router (non apple branded router) .. my apple tv 2  is connected to my home wifi network from the same router.. when i first set up my apple tv.. i was able to see the Airplay icon on itunes and it would let me Airplay media from my mac to my apple tv.. however.. it disconnects after a little while.. same thing with viewing my itunes library from apple tv.. i was able to detect my shared library from the apple tv.. i was able to play some media but then it disconnected after some time.. but now.. the Airplay icon doesnt show up in itunes anymore.. and i cant see my shared library from my apple tv neither.. ive looked around for a solution and followed the tip to turn the ipv6 off.. it worked for some time but now the problem is back..
i know the obvious solution is to connect my mac to the same wireless network as my apple tv.. but i would like to keep it connected through ethernet..
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
Apple TV 2 software version 4.4.4
    Thanks in advance

I wouldn't say that was the obvious answer at all, my Mac is connected by ethernet and 6 of my 7 Apple TV's are connected by wifi, I haven't had any of your problems. The problem is most likely on your network.
    Intermittent problems
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.
    Consistent Problems
A frequent cause of consistent failure to enable AirPlay or HomeSharing at all, is the service being blocked on the network. Make sure your network isn't hidden, has a unique name, that MAC address authentication is disabled, security is set to use WPA 2 Personal and that there is only one router/device acting as a DHCP server and providing NAT services.
Make sure your router/computer allows access over the following ports
    Port
    Type
    Protocol
    Used By
    80
    TCP
    HTTP
    AirPlay
    443
    TCP
    HTTPS

    UDP
    MDNS (Win)
    Bonjour/AirPlay
    49163
    UDP
    MDNS (Win)
    Bonjour/AirPlay
Refer to your router manual/manufacturer for any settings that are specific to that model.
Another frequent cause of consistent failure to enable AirPlay or HomeSharing at all, is security software, in many cases configuring it correctly, disabling it or even uninstalling it can help, but in some cases the security software can cause problems that simply reconfiguring, disabling or uninstalling cannot reverse.
If you are consistently unable to activate AirPlay, have tried all the steps in this article and have security software installed on your system, you might benefit from contacting its provider or participating in any online forums they run to discuss the matter with them.

  • How can I tell what devices are connected to my e2000

I have a cisco e2000.  I just turned off guest access, but 'cisco connect' says I still have 4 devices conneted to my router.  Is there a way I can tell what those devices are?
Also, even thoug the setup said my guest access had a password, I found out it did not.  Any concerns about nosy neighbors?

Try to install Network Magic. It will show you what are the devices connected to your router. You can download it from here.

  • How can you tell which cabinet you are connected t...

As the title says, how can you tell once installed.
the reason i ask is where i live there is only the bt-pcp and the drl-fttc cabinet and no others.
from what i heard is that both BT and DRL occupy the same fttc cabinet, and this would suggest so based on other information received.
yet from other information i'm hearing is that they don't and we're probably wired all the way back to the exchange which i would have thought was a bit odd seeing with 3 miles from exchange (as the crow flies).
so is it possible that they use the same cabs?

    hi,
yeh am on infinity now and so far working fine
had one disconnection but thing that was caused by outage as took router a few attempts to re-connect, but other than that my pppoe has only dropped when made a change on router which required it to restart.
now been connected for 8 days without dropping (usually dropped every weekend when on DR) so continuing to monitor.
the engineer advised was connected via the cabinet in street, but only cabinets are the bt-pcp and the dr-fttc cabinets, and AFAIK BT and DR share the cabinet from what I've been previously told, but then someone else has said they won't do that and the connection is probably one that is underground if there is no bt-pcp.
i'll send Dean a message just so i know for future as i know the bt-pcp cabinet my number is connected too.

  • How can I tell how many devices are connected my itunes account via icloud?

How can I tell how many devices are connected my itunes account via icloud?

I only know what it says in the article.  There it specifically says "iOS device" and it says. "You can view which devices or computers are  currently associated," and, "Next to each device or computer name, you will be able to see when each was associated to your Apple ID."  However, this is all in the context of, "When you turn on iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads, or when you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID."  I guess if somebody simply logs in it won't show.

  • How can I tell what is "Auto Launching"

    User's (me) tech background:
Fairly technical user here, but getting pretty rusty. In a past life (late '90s) I was a network administrator as well as server admins for NT 4, Novell (up to 4.11), AIX, and HP-UX servers. Used to be really good at a command prompt ($ or #) in AIX and HP-UX as well as MS DOS. I do have ROOT enabled on my Macs and I am not afraid to use it. However, I know how severe the consequences can be (trashed a customer's AIX server once using a -R switch in the root directory), so I am extremely cautious and must be confident of the instruction. Can probably fix most anything with some guidance........
Here is the problem........ I have recently developed an error on boot, say within the last couple of weeks, where it tells me that some Vista application won't run because VM Ware will not initialize. The problem is VM Ware is not loaded on this computer (15" MBP model 8.2, i7 processor, 16MB of RAM, OS 10.7.4........ bought as a "refurb", never had a problem, have used this workstation for several months now). Boot Camp is not configured on this machine either. Nothing is in the Dock that would knowingly trigger this. When I go into System Information, I find nothing set as a "Startup Item" (screen shot attached) , making me think that I am looking in the wrong place. Where should I be looking?
Interesting enough, when I go to System Information, and look under "Applications", I do see a lot of Vista items, including apps from an older MBP that I do not connect to (on same network, they have "rights" to connect, I just never do as there is nothing on there I need). I have attached a screen shot of this as well.
Please, someone, can you give me some advice here?
How can I tell where this auto loading of this Vista app is coming from
How do I get rid of it
    Why did it happen "suddenly"?
Can I go into System Info/Applications and delete any Vista or VM Ware apps?
If I cannot do this via "System Info" can I remove (rm OR mv) the files from whichever system directory stores this data?
This is puzzling and quite concerning. I would be deeply grateful if there is a "Yoda" out there that knows how to fix this.......
    Thanks in advance,
    Bill

Managing your data usage is very important Bag02231958. I would like to thank ttipgem for the great suggestion to see what is using data on your phone. However, when you access the internet, social media apps, stream data, videos, music, etc. that uses data on your phone. Unfortunately, we do not have a list of what specifically is being accessed on the device to incur data. You do have the ability to view data records and time frames online via My Verizon http://bit.ly/xB4iTc

  • How can I tell which apps were purchased on my account?

I did search for answers but couldn't find one that fit.
I have an iPhone and so does our son.
Early on my son purchased apps on my account and downloaded them on HIS iphone.  Eventually, I got him his own iPhone account and so he has also purchsed apps on his own account and downloaded them on his phone.
When we open iTunes and connect his phone, there is a list of apps that are on his phone.
    QUESTION
How can we tell which apps were purchased on HIS iTunes acct and which were purchased on MY iTunes acct?
I don't want to DO anything with the apps, I just want to know one from another.
    Thanks in advance!!

  • How can I tell if my local webserver is configured to accept https requests?

I have phpMyAdmin on my localhost server.
How can I tell if the localhost server is configured to accept https requests? Or is that unnecessary on a localhost server?
Below is the info from the phpMyAdmin home page:
    Server: 127.0.0.1 via TCP/IP
    Server version: 5.0.81
    Protocol version: 10
    Apache/2.2.20 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.20 OpenSSL/0.9.8r DAV/2 PHP/5.3.6
    MySQL client version: mysqlnd 5.0.8-dev - 20102224 - $Revision: 308673 $
    PHP extension: mysqli
    phpMyAdmin
    Version information: 3.3.1
Many thanks for information and advice concerning this.
    Best,
    Sheley

Well, for one, by definition, localhost can only ever be accessed from the machine itself. It doesn't get any more secure than that.
However, just because you're hitting the site on localhost that doesn't mean that Apache isn't also listening for connections on other IP addresses. In fact, by default, Apache will listen on all IP addresses configured on the machine.
Therefore you might want to look a little deeper.
You can see from the phpMyAdmin output that Apache is configured to support HTTPS, but that only tells you whether apache knows how to speak HTTPS, not whether the current connection/request is using HTTPS.
The shortest, simplest answer to your question is to try. If you can hit https://localhost/ then, yes, Apache is listening and responding to HTTPS requests. If it doesn't respond then it isn't.
Or dig through the configuration files, but I'm guessing if you knew how to do that, you wouldn't be asking the question.

  • How can I tell if WES610N is using 5 GHz band?

    Hello,
I'm using a WES610N Media Connector with my Blu-Ray player to stream video.  The router is an EA3500 -- I used the smart, one-touch WiFi setup to do the setup for the WES610N.
How can I tell if the Media Connector is using the 5 GHz band vs. the 2.4 GHz band?
Is there a way t interrogate it while it is connected to my Blu-Ray player in another room?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bill

Yes. Agreed with sabretooth. There's no way for us to identify on what band your WES610N is connected to unless you'll create a different SSID's on both 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz bands.
If everyone needs to believe in something, I believe I'll have another beer..

  • How can I tell if a photo in an event is associated with a gallery?

How can I tell by looking at a photo in an event if that photos is currently being published to a gallery?
Alternatively, is there a way to make an event automatically tied to a gallery so that when the event is added to or changed, the gallery is also?
In general I'm having trouble deciphering the connection between galleries and events.
    Thanks.
    A Musliner

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What I do for my web gallery photos is to flag them. That tells me in the Photos mode or Events mode which photos I've used in a web gallery. You could use a keyword to do that also.
There is no unique connection between a web gallery and Event. A web gallery can be create from photos in multiple events. Generally speaking most users will assemble the photos in an Album and then create the gallery from it. Just makes getting all the photos into one group easier. Once a gallery is created it is no longer directly connected to that album, i.e. adding new photos to the album will not update the gallery. New photos have to be added directly to the gallery.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can I tell if my computer is using ethernet or wireless for downloads?

    Hi,
My computer is hooked up via ethernet to my router (base station) which is connected to my DSL modem, and I also have my Airport on because I have extended my network with an airport express so I can stream music to my stereo across the room using iTunes.
I've noticed in the Airport menu that my computer is connected also to my wireless network which I use for getting online with my iPad.
Can I assume that my computer will use ethernet and NOT wireless for accessing the internet, downloading files, etc?
How can I tell which network connection is being used? Are there tools for monitoring the network that would allow me to easily determine if a particular download is going over the ethernet or the wireless connection?
Clearly, I want to use the hard line ethernet connection for everything and use the wifi only for my streaming music function for speed purposes...
    Thanks!!!!
    Elisabeth

    Hi,
Internet is served on the priority basic from the System Prefrences Network pane.
If ethernet is on top you getting it from ethernet if Airport and so on...
So depending on internet speeds set the priority to access fast internet speeds.
