How can I tell if my AirPort  is not working correctly?

I've been experiencing up and down internet speeds, from as high as 40 Mbps, to as low as .3 Mbps!  And since Sunday, the connection will just cut off!  When I close & open it, it comes back, but it cut out about four times within one day!
I've had the Charter cable guy out about four times, he's changed this and that, says the modem is new, and the router is working fine, but I still am having this issue.
The other person who lives  here, and has his computer in the same room as the router & modem hasn't had these issues, and I'm only two doors away on the same floor, so I'm beginning to think something could be wrong with my hardware. How would I check, since I am no longer on AppleCare....

It is a long shot in the dark, but look around to see if there is a portable phone base, TV or motorized appliance close to or in between your iMac and router. If so, try rearranging something to see if the drop outs stop and the signal strength improves.

    My slot loading imac has had an airport card functioning well for years. Currently is it on a wireless network via Airport Express shared with an airport connected ibook.
    The ibook is connecting easily to the network. For two days the imac will not connect. When I go to the System Profiler on the imac , the airport card is recognized with Type, Locale, and Firmware Version, but the "current wireless network:" is listed as "wireless network is not available."
    The Ibook's "current wireless network:" lists the correct name of my wireless network. Proximity is not the issue, I have the two computers sitting side by side.
    I suspect this mean the wireless card is not functioning. I suppose it could also be a problem with the Imac's antenna. Are there other possible hardware or software problems? How would I troubleshoot the differences before buying a new airport card fot the Imac?
    I am running 0S X 10.3.3 on both of the computers.

    Is the iMac connected to the wireless network? In
    your menu bar, are the signal lines grayed out or are
    they black. Click on your airport icon as make sure
    you have you network selected.
    Give that a try.
    P.S. I would recommend updating to 10.3.9 as well.

    I have an Airport Extreme (802.11n) with an attached HDD that I use for storing photos etc.
    When I try to access the photos with my MBP it is extremely slow. (so slow and frustrating that I usually take the notebook and sit beside the HDD so I can plug it in directly ... not exactly convenient)
    How can I tell if I'm getting the full performance out of the Airport Extreme?

    Is there any option other than upgrading to a Time Capsule?

    Any non-"n" wireless client (including the 802.11g AirPort Express), connected to a "n" network, will reduce the overall available bandwidth for "n" devices. In addition, to allow these devices to connect, your network must operate on the 2.4 GHz radio ... which has a maximum "n" bandwidth of around 130 Mbps. The 5 GHz, with dual-channel enabled, would provide your "n" clients with 300+ Mbps.

    Hi there. I have the following problem. Under the all files folder there are a couple of .avi files that do not appear anywhere else on my system, they are not working and they cannot be deleted or opened! When I click on them, I get a message that says delete, repair alias or ok. Click delete or ok and nothing happens, click repair and it says locate the original file. When I do so, again nothing happens!!

    OK, this officially crosses over to the bizarre.
    I believe booting from the Lion recovery partition and selecting Disk Utility is next. Run "repair disk". I believe that it will find some directory corruption and should fix it.

  • How to replace my calendars via iTunes?- not working correctly

    iCal has been working great for me unitl a few months ago when I had major duplicating events problems.... I've thought about swictching to something else, but I really do like ical and would like to fix this final problem.....
    For the moment, my only issue is that my calendar on my Mac will not sync correctly with my ipad & iphone. These (ipad & iphone) keep duplicating random events for no reason (they are all different, some are all day events, some repeat, etc.). I would like to just replace the calendars on both of these devices with my computer calender via iTunes.... when I use the "replace" funciton it still shows these duplicated events even though they are not showing up on my Mac (are they hidden somehwere?) I have used this replace feature before and its always worked for me until now.
    I am not using my iCloud for calendars at all bc I thought that was causing my orginial duplication issues. I have everything turned off (or I think I do) so iCloud will not be a calender issue. I am using my gmail calendar as sort of my online "hub"..... which so far I really do like, I'm just hoping its not causing any of these issues.... I don't think so since I've had issues before I starting using gmail calendar.
    Also.... I've moved all my events into one calendar. If I could just figure out how these events are duplicating on iphone & ipad my problem would be solved!
    Any advice would be really appreciated!!!!!
