How can I tell if my lighting cord is faulty?

I have been trying to plug in my lighting cord into my iPhone 5 and will not charge no matter what I have tried which has lead me to believe that it is the cord that is faulty. What are some ways that I could tell that it is the cord.

Use the lightning connector on another device to see if it works there. Use a different cord on your iPhone 5 to see if that works.
If you live near an Apple Retail store, take both in, they will likely test and let you know which (if either) is not working properly. And, you will be at the place where you can get a replacement. If your iPhone is still under warranty, so is the cable that came with it.

I recently cannot import video from my canon elura 100 which connects using a 4-6pin firewire cable. I thought maybe it was the cable so I grabbed my brother's black macbook and it seems to import fine, it still isn't 100% smooth like I think it should be but when I plugged the camera back into my black macbook, the video that was being imported just kept freezing and it seemed warped. I tried this process a few times and kept getting the same results. I feel as though I may have a firewire port issue. How could I check on my own. I know that when I use my firewire 410, I have no problems so I don't know what could be wrong. Any help?

Did any of your problems start with Snow Leopard, is your brother's machine running the same version of SL.
Over in the audio forum there are those having some problems with their firewire interfaces. (glitches, static...etc)

How can I tell if replacement LCD is "good"?

Hi everyone
I bought a used 20" Intel iMac that supposedly only needed a hard drive and a new LCD panel in order to work. The hard drive was easily installed. I ordered a replacement panel off eBay and installed it, but I'm seeing a grey screen with lots of tiny black rectangles on it. I figured that maybe there's a problem with the video card, so I scrounged up a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter, and connected an external monitor. However, nothing ever displays on that external monitor. If there is truly a problem with the video card (the logic board?), I'm going to stop buying parts and sell the carcass....
Anyway, how can I tell if the replacement LCD is good? Does the weird pattern I'm seeing on the display indicate a problem with the panel or with the video card? And shouldnt the iMac automatically output to the external display when I connect it via the adapter?

Hello, does it sound like it's booting up at all?
If we could get it to boot, we could take a screen grab & that would tell us, if the screen capture was indentical to wahat you're seeing then it'd be the graphic card, since it captures it from the card/VRAM, not the screen actually.
As far as the adapter I think you have to have it at least booted up part way for a second monitor to even light up, not positive though.

Selected guides should become light blue when they're selected. My guides are using the default color of cyan and the guide on the right is selected in the image below.
If you have your guides set to the light blue selection inside the Guides Color drop down menu then you won't see a difference because that specific light blue is the color the guide changes to when it's selected. I'm not really sure there is a way to tell, it certainly doesn't seem to be something you can set within the iPad so I'd assume that if a 5Ghz frequency is available it would use that, otherwise it would default to using a 2.4Ghz frequency instead. I'd also assume from having a 5Ghz router myself that there would be some sort of light on your router which will flash on/off when data is recieved so if iPad is your only 5Ghz device and it's sending/receiving data then this light should flash on your router.

I have had good success with the built-in Mac calibration routine in the past with my Viewsonic CRT. It seems to work OK with my 20" Cinema Display, and another flat screen, but I have trouble with the first step of the calibration settings - there isn't any position on the left slider that looks right. I recently got a Spyder 3 Pro monitor calibrator and the results are SO different from my Mac calibration I don't know what to do next. I had good results before.
How can I tell if the Spyder profile, or the Mac profile is "right"?
Does the Spyder work properly with the Cinema Display?
With the Spyder I am using 2.2 and 6500 as starting points. I have important projects going to press so I need to know that I am sending out good files.

There is not one standard because it depends on your output. For you, it sounds like the standard is that your screen gives you a rendering as close as possible to the press proofing standard that your company and your clients sign off on. In other words, a neutral gray and certain colors look the same on screen and on the print on your proof under your standard lighting. Your starting points sound OK, but for example, they would be wrong if your lightboxes are D50.
It's highly unlikely that the built-in profile is better than the Spyder. A hardware sensor is far more objective and accurate than the human eye.
I'm mostly repeating stuff I read in Real World Color Management so if your paycheck really does depend on this stuff you might read it or any other color management book. ColorWiki and the Chromix newsletter are other good resources for this.

The amount of storage that is shown on the box and in Settings are calculated differently - the package uses 1 billion bytes as a gig (i.e. decimal), whereas in Settings it's shown as the binary definition : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2419
Also some space has been used for iOS, the built-in app and some space is lost due to formatting.

User's (me) tech background:
Fairly technical user here, but getting pretty rusty. In a past life (late '90s) I was a network administrator as well as server admins for NT 4, Novell (up to 4.11), AIX, and HP-UX servers. Used to be really good at a command prompt ($ or #) in AIX and HP-UX as well as MS DOS. I do have ROOT enabled on my Macs and I am not afraid to use it. However, I know how severe the consequences can be (trashed a customer's AIX server once using a -R switch in the root directory), so I am extremely cautious and must be confident of the instruction. Can probably fix most anything with some guidance........
Here is the problem........ I have recently developed an error on boot, say within the last couple of weeks, where it tells me that some Vista application won't run because VM Ware will not initialize. The problem is VM Ware is not loaded on this computer (15" MBP model 8.2, i7 processor, 16MB of RAM, OS 10.7.4........ bought as a "refurb", never had a problem, have used this workstation for several months now). Boot Camp is not configured on this machine either. Nothing is in the Dock that would knowingly trigger this. When I go into System Information, I find nothing set as a "Startup Item" (screen shot attached) , making me think that I am looking in the wrong place. Where should I be looking?
Interesting enough, when I go to System Information, and look under "Applications", I do see a lot of Vista items, including apps from an older MBP that I do not connect to (on same network, they have "rights" to connect, I just never do as there is nothing on there I need). I have attached a screen shot of this as well.
Please, someone, can you give me some advice here?

However, when you access the internet, social media apps, stream data, videos, music, etc. that uses data on your phone. Unfortunately, we do not have a list of what specifically is being accessed on the device to incur data. "Volume not found" I have 3 iphoto_libraries stored in a external disk, while the actual files are in other external disk. Ive moved together iphotolibraries and files but: HOW CAN I TELL THE LIBRARIES WHERE TO FIND THEM NOW?

I have three iphoto_libraries stored in a external disk PASSPORT (one for each trip imovie Im making -Ive managed this way the libraries so to not confuse the trips) while the actual files are in OTHER external disk LACIE. And everything was fine: imovie find each library, could work with it, or iphoto could edit the files.
But one day everything crashed at the same time: i opened iphoto to find 3 different scenarios:
1) iphoto_library GREECE was there, but not the albums i prepared. no events. when double click in any of them: "Volume not found"
2) iphoto_library ITALY was there, and the albums i prepared too, but empty.
in both cases I can only see the photos in 'photos' because 'events' shows some events with photo preview and some with no preview, just some kind of preset clipart palm tree, but if i enter the event, photos are there but again: when double click in any item: "Volume not found"
3) iphoto_library ISRAEL was there, the albums too, when double click in any of them: all OK

"Volumes" are the original files aren't them?

This is not clear, especially when you say

Especially as the message you're getting is typical of a library where the ' option "copy to file" or something like that' is unchecked.
So it's a simple question:
Are you these Managed or Referenced Libraries?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
