How can I tell if this guy is using my stolen MBP or not?

Hi guys,
So I recently had my Macbook Pro stolen. I managed to lock it remotely using iCloud but unfortunately it gave me no information on the last known location (no idea why). Anyway, a guy that lives quite close to me is selling a Macbook Pro (same spec as mine). Obviously he wouldn't attempt to sell it with the remote lock still in place, so I'm going to assume that he's found a way to wipe the information on the computer and somehow bypass the remote lock.
Another interesting piece of information is that from the date that my Macbook Pro was stolen he has posted online asking for an Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. So, I (via a friend) have arranged to meet him tomorrow to take a look at the Macbook Pro that he is selling.
What I would like to know is:
1. Will my Remote Lock still work if I connect the Macbook to Wifi when I meet him?
2. If he has wiped all of the information on it, is there any way that I'd be able to tell if it is in fact mine? (by the way, it's only a couple of weeks old so no scratches, etc.)
P.s. I live in a third-world country where getting the police involved is the last thing you want to do in a situation like this.
Cheers

My understanding is as soon as the Macbook is connected to WiFi and you issued the remote lock feature from "Find my Phone/Mac", the lock would be in effect. So, I would think while you're looking at this Mac and you can connect to WiFi, you should know right away.
As far as I know, if the Mac is powered off, sleeping or Find My Mac disabled, you'll see Offline. If it's connected via ethernet and not WiFi also, you will see the Mac Online, No Location Available but you would still have the ability to Play Sound, Lock or Erase Mac.

  • I have a dual band router. How can I tell if my iPad is using 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz.

I have a dual band router. How can I tell if my iPad is using 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz. I want to try and manage all the devices in the house over our WLAN. Thanks. Nik

I'm not really sure there is a way to tell, it certainly doesn't seem to be something you can set within the iPad so I'd assume that if a 5Ghz frequency is available it would use that, otherwise it would default to using a 2.4Ghz frequency instead.  I'd also assume from having a 5Ghz router myself that there would be some sort of light on your router which will flash on/off when data is recieved so if iPad is your only 5Ghz device and it's sending/receiving data then this light should flash on your router.

  • How can I tell where the OS (Snow Leopard) is? I'm not sure if it is on the SSD or the regular HD.

How can I tell where the OS (Snow Leopard) is? I’m not sure if it is on the SSD or the regular HD. I just had a rough weekend trying to back things up with Time Machine and I think the OS was copied to the regular HD, or could be in two places? How do I find where the OS is? If it is on the regular drive I want to put it on the SSD.
    Thank you very much!

Some recent systems don't observe that convention - not sure at the moment about Snow Leopard but I have a feeling it doesn't.
Copy the following into the AppleScript Editor (in Applications/Utilities)
set dsk to the path to startup disk as string
    display dialog dsk
    click the 'run' button.

  • HT1515 Just installed Airport Express on Mac 10.6.8  Can't see base station.  Hard Reset the Airport.  Rebooted machine.  How can I tell if this is a Mac problem or Airport Express Problem?

I have a Mac 10.6.8.  Just installed Airport Express.  I can't see any base stations.  I did a hard reset on the Airport Express, turned off all devices,  turned them back on.   I see plenty of Airport networks in the neighborhood.  How can I tell if I have a Mac problem or an Airport Express problem?  Airport Express blinks Amber.

Obviously,  I'm still using ethernet to be able to reply to this.
Alright, use the same ethernet cable to plug directly into the airport express. This will FORCE the airport utility to now see it regardless of weak signals & interference. You can set it up that way.
BTW, what is the original intent on the express?

  • How can I tell what datacentre I'm using?

Apologies, I'm a Newbie. How can I tell where my servers are. Country is OK, I don't need to go to the Data Centre.
As a Cloud Partner with a "free" account, maybe I don't have a choice, but I'd like to know the servers are in Canada, and not the US.  I don't recall being asked at setup time.
    Thanks kindly,

    Hi,
You could see your service location information from azure portal, like this picture:
Also, you could see this blog about the azure datacenter location(http://matthew.sorvaag.net/2011/06/windows-azure-data-centre-locations/ ).Hope this helps.

  • How can i tell a clip has been used?

In iMovie I can see a clip was used in a project with an orange line through the used section. How can I tell in FCPX?

I agree ... this should be a feature that Apple includes.  In the meantime, a work-around is to click on the clip, go to the info tab of the inspector window and choose the General view.  The name of the clip will be in the Name field at the top of the inspector window.  It will also appear at the top bar of all three tabs in the inspector window.  You can then match that name to the same name in your browser.

  • How can I tell if my computer is using ethernet or wireless for downloads?

    Hi,
My computer is hooked up via ethernet to my router (base station) which is connected to my DSL modem, and I also have my Airport on because I have extended my network with an airport express so I can stream music to my stereo across the room using iTunes.
I've noticed in the Airport menu that my computer is connected also to my wireless network which I use for getting online with my iPad.
Can I assume that my computer will use ethernet and NOT wireless for accessing the internet, downloading files, etc?
How can I tell which network connection is being used? Are there tools for monitoring the network that would allow me to easily determine if a particular download is going over the ethernet or the wireless connection?
Clearly, I want to use the hard line ethernet connection for everything and use the wifi only for my streaming music function for speed purposes...
    Thanks!!!!
    Elisabeth

    Hi,
Internet is served on the priority basic from the System Prefrences Network pane.
If ethernet is on top you getting it from ethernet if Airport and so on...
So depending on internet speeds set the priority to access fast internet speeds.

  • How can i tell if something was shared using airdrop

I found a picture on my camera roll that I do not remember taking.  Is there a way to tell if this was shared with someone using AirDrop on my iPhone 5s?  Someone else had access to my phone and I want to see if it was shared with anyone.

Seems pretty clear to me you should check your Messages and Mail apps to see if either has been sent recently. There is no guarantee it will still be there as someone may have also deleted the outgoing message. Maybe your Facebook and Twitter timelines as well.

  • How can I tell if my AMF is using HTTPS?

    Hey everyone,
I've got my cert installed and I've configured everything to run over HTTPS.  The server calls are working, but I don't know how to tell if they are over https or not.
Is there any way I can tell this?  Here is some debug output from the server that seems to suggest that the my-amf channel is receiving the call still.

Hi. It looks to me like something is not configured correctly. You should be seeing the my-secure-amf channel receive the request. What does your channel definition in the services-config.xml file look like? Also, what is the URL you are using to load the Flex app in the browser? With that information I should be able to help you identify what the problem is.
Probably the easiest way to tell if HTTPS is actually being used is to use a HTTP proxy/sniffer such as Charles (http://www.charlesproxy.com/) and look at the traffic being sent over the wire. If HTTPS is being used you will see the requests going to the HTTPS port and not the HTTP port.
    Hope that helps.

  • How can I tell which clips are currently used in a sequence

In the Project window there is a list of clips I have loaded, but often I lose track of which clips are currently used in the sequence.  In Premiere Elements there was a green check next to clips you have used in the timeline, but I don't see any indication of which clips are currently used in the sequence/timeline I am editing.
Is there some way to sort the loaded clips so that the ones in use all appear first followed by those clips not currently being used in the timeline/sequence.  Is there some indication I am missing showing me whether or not a clip I have loaded is currently being used or not?
    -Roger Uzun

This isn't really a sorting mechanism, but you can see how many times a clip is used, where it's used, and then navigate to it using the following non-descript button:
You need to have a clip selected in the Project Panel to see this information, of course. Once you click the disclosure triangle, you'll see the list of sequences and the times where the clip is used; if you select one of those references, the sequence will come to the front in the Timeline panel, and the CTI will park at its in point.
Again, not a sorting means, but it might be helpful in some instances.

  • How can I tell if my iMac is using wireless N?

I have my iMac connected via wireless to the router, and my PlayStation3 connected to the router with a wire. I use a program called MediaLink to stream videos, photos and music 'apple tv style' to the PS3. Now, with my old D-Link Wireless G router, I was having network errors all the time, so I figured I'd upgrade to a Netgear Rangemax Wireless N and take advantage of the iMac's N capabilities for a more reliable and faster connection.
I switched out the router last night and I'm actually having MORE errors now as opposed to LESS. Is there a way for me to tell what sort of connection I'm getting between the iMac and the Netgear? I know I can test my DSL speed using online utilities, but how do I test my internal connection to my router and see what speed it's getting and whether it's using N or falling back to G/B?

Hold down ALT (Option) when clicking on the the wireless icon on your menu bar. That will give you more detailed information about your connection. If your transmit rate is greater than 54 then it is 'N'.
What I've found is when I connect to an 'N' router, my iMac sometimes still does a 'G' connection. You can force it by disabling everything but 'N' on the router.
Also, try different channels to avoid interference.

  • How can I tell what email address I used

Trying to connect my iPad to hpeprint.I am new at this so I made a account.it said I already have a account but when I ask for my password to be sent to my email it says my account can't be found.what should I do.

    Hello Serene44441,
There is a way to display the printers email address if you have forgotten it or just want to find out what it is. First, select "Setup" > "Web Services" > "Display Printer Email Address". This may be somewhat different depending on what printer you have but should give you a basic guide to find this.
I have also answered a similar post about this that may help you with this issue.

If you have Solaris 10, Update 1 or higher you can run 'fcinfo hba-port' to get details. Older OS versions, a 'prtpicl -v' will get some details but it is large output and you'll have to find the right section (search for "qlc" within the output). This doc can help pinpoint the model based on the subsystem ID found in prtpicl.

Based on the limited output you posted, these are definitely 2Gb and most likely SG-XPCI2FC-QF2 which is probably not available for purchase anymore.
