How can I tell what size hard drive I have in my macbook

Just seeing if there's any value (doubtful) to this old computer I have.  I'm sure it's easy enough to find but it's not matching what the prompts are for hard drive size, e.g. 120gb, 128gb, etc.  Gazelle is having a promo asking for this info.
Oh, and my battery doesn't keep a charge so I have to keep it plugged in to work.  The kids use it for their school computer but since I have a MacBook Pro I should probably just let them use mine, as a guest user.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Single click on the hard drive image in the upper right corner (usually called Macintosh HD).  Then right-click and pull down to Get Info.
BTW, What model MB is it?

  • How can you tell what type of credits you have?

My iTunes account shows that I have 4 credits on the top right of iTunes but I can't tell what type of credits I have.  I have sent numerous emails to Apple iTunes support and they just keep telling me that it should say 1 song credit or 1 TV episode credit, etc. but all it says are 4 credits so I can't tell what the credits are for?  Can someone help?  I have the latest version of iTunes for Windows on a Windows 7 PC.

I updated QuickTime and now the top right under my name displays the number of credits and the types of credits.  Prior to this update, it only showed the name.

  • How can you tell what version of Quicktime you have?

How do you determine what version of Quicktime you have on your computer? What version do you need for a new 30G Video iPod? How do you upgrade versions, if necessary?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Open a QT document and use the Help menu, where you should see an item labeled (I believe) About Quicktime Player. That should tell you the version running the player.
You need QT Pro and QT 7 to have a preset for iPod video. You probably can use QT 6 if you use these settings in making an mpeg-4 video:
"MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480x480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats<<
QT 7 is available for download from the Apple site by clicking on

  • How can I tell if my hard drive crashed

I've had my MacBook for slightly more than one year and for no reason that I can think of it will only boot up to a screen that looks like an apple with a problem. I took it to an Apple store and they told me that he hard driv crashed and it would cost $700 for a new one. I paid $1000 for it brand-new. Any suggestions to determine if it is the hard drive and how I might be able to salvage what's on it/get it going again? Please help!

    Try this first:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
This will erase any data stored on the drive, so I hope you have backups.
If the drive still cannot be made functional or the SMART status indicates the drive is failing, then you will need to replace it. It won't cost $700 and you can do it yourself: MacBook (13 inch) Hard Drive Replacement Instructions (Do it yourself Manual).
Replacement drives can run from $50 to $350 depending upon size, make, model, and speed. You can find replacement drives at OWC. Your computer can use any 2.5" notebook SATA drive up to 320 GBs. Only Samsung makes a 500 GB drive that will fit in a Macbook.

  • How can I check what model hard drive is in my Time Capsule?

... without opening it, that is

You are correct in that Apple used and uses different drives even in Time Capsules with the same model number. I think you are correct on the WD Green disk, If I remember the test reports that I've read...but don't have handy at the moment.
But, it is not true "server grade", as Apple advertises. The "server grade" models require more power and run warmer. Apple is trying to limit heat on the Time Capsule.
If you really need to know what drive you have, the only way to find out is open up the Time Capsule.....very carefully. It's not hard to do. This will void the warranty, of course, but who will know?
Use a hairdryer on "high" to heat up the rubber pad on the bottom for about 10-15 minutes so that it will peel from the metal case neatly. Remove the 10-12 screws and you are there.
Don't touch anything near the power supply capacitors

  • How Can I Tell If My Hard Drive Is Bad?

My MacBook Pro 17" will not boot. The hard drive begins to spin, and after 5 seconds or so a very short, quiet beep sounds and the hard drive winds down. Is this indicative of a bad hard drive, or is there some other test or procedure I can perform to verify that the hard drive is either good for sure, or bad for sure.

    beep sounds
    That's one sure sign!
Common symptoms of a dying hard drive
Hard drive is making a clicking, whirring, grinding, ping pong ball noise or any other type of unusual noises.
    Hard drive is not spinning.
Computer is not recognizing the hard drive.
    Sluggish loading of applications.
    System freezes and hangs.
