How can I tell where the OS (Snow Leopard) is? I'm not sure if it is on the SSD or the regular HD.

How can I tell where the OS (Snow Leopard) is? I’m not sure if it is on the SSD or the regular HD. I just had a rough weekend trying to back things up with Time Machine and I think the OS was copied to the regular HD, or could be in two places? How do I find where the OS is? If it is on the regular drive I want to put it on the SSD.
Thank you very much!

Some recent systems don't observe that convention - not sure at the moment about Snow Leopard but I have a feeling it doesn't.
Copy the following into the AppleScript Editor (in Applications/Utilities)
set dsk to the path to startup disk as string
display dialog dsk
click the 'run' button.

  • Referenced masters:  How can you tell where a photo's master is?

After reading many recommendations on this site, I have set up my main library on my internal HD with referenced masters on an external HD.
Now I need to import a job which I shot out of state and which was saved as a managed library on my MBP. So I copied it to an external drive and then Imported it into the main A3 library. That worked just fine but it seems like it copied all the masters as well as the versions from that new library into the main one.
Before I try to relocated them, how can I tell where the master for a particular photo is located?
    Thank you very much.
    Bo

Versions are always in the Library (they are text instructions saved to a file and applied on-the-fly to the Master in order to produce the image on screen (mostly)). Masters are either in the Library (in which case they are "Managed"), or not in the Library (in which case they are "Referenced"). The Library is a "package". A package is a container of files which shows as a single file to the user.
Badges tell you the status of the Master on which the Version is based. No badge = Managed. Referenced Masters show a badge. Off-line Referenced Masters show a modification of this badge. Versions with Missing Masters show yet another version of this badge.
Badges can be toggled to show or not via the Metadata Overlays. All seven of the Metadata Overlays can be customized.
Use the filter Rule "File Status" to filter for "Managed", "Referenced", "On-line", "Off-line", and "Missing".
If you want to move all Manage Masters to your external drive, in Photos view filter using the "File Status" Rule set to "Managed", then select all and "File→Relocate Master".

  • Mountain Lion is downloading, how can I tell where it is downloading to and how much has downloaded?

Mountain Lion is downloading, how can I tell where it is downloading to and how much has downloaded?

In the "purchases" tab in the App Store you'll see a progress report.
Also once it completes downloading the installer will auto-launch.
Once you get Mountain Lion installed, if you have the Downloads folder in your dock you will get a progress indicator in the dock while it's downloading :-)

If you are seeing "Installed" in the Purchased section of your iPhone, then it only means that the app is installed on your device. Is that where you are seeing the "Installed"?

  • How can I tell if my fan on MacBook Pro is working properly?  It seems to be running often and the laptop feels hot!

How can I tell if my fan on MacBook Pro is working properly?  It seems to be running often and the laptop feels hot!

Isn't it awesome that after you spend 2500$ + on a laptop you need to also become a computer technician in order to keep it working. The fan in my MacBook Pro runs all the time and the computer is also very hot all the time. I always try to make sure it's not sitting on a flat surface that might make it run hotter. I'm running 10.6.8. Is there anything I can do to fix this? When should the fan be running? Should it run when I have more than one program running at a time? Is the MacBook Pro designed to only run one program at time? At the moment I'm watching a show via Firefox. There are no other programs running, the computer is raised off the table, the fan is running at about half the speed it usually does, moments ago the fan was going full bore. Google Browser was open, iTunes was open, text edit was open, but none of them being used - I was using Firefox and watching a movie online with browser window on fullscreen. Anyone got any suggestions? Should I just enroll into a university and begin my studies as computer technician?

Mail application is still there. All of my emails and folders are gone since iCloud. How can I get them back using Snow Leopard? Or can I? Do I have to wait for Mountain Lion?

I need to check a few other things...
Click on 'Mail' in the upper left corner next to the Apple ()
    Click Preferences
    Click the 'Accounts' tab
Make sure your iCloud account is highlighted in the column on the left.
In the account information section what does it say next to:
    Incoming Mail Server?
    Outgoing Mail Server?
Also, did you use MobileMe before the iCloud?

You'll be given the option to change the target after the download is complete and before the actual installation begins. The process is otherwise the same as normal.

  • How can i get xcode for osx snow leopard?

how can i get xcode for osx snow leopard?

I'm an experienced software developer (C, C++, Lisp, Linux, Unix, etc) but have never done any Mac development, and wanted to try some stuff on my iMac at home, but I have Snow Leopard and most of the turtorials I looked at said the first thing I had to do was download XCode and the first thing that happened when I tried to do that was it said I had to upgrade to Lion.
My iMac is running SnowLeopard.   I don't have any big reason to stay at SnowLeopard, but from stuff I've seen in the forums I can't see any big reason to upgrade to Lion.   I might eventually want to do development for IOS on an iphone or iPad, but for now I just want to do a simple tutorial app for my iMac.
I found the downloads search page, and it looks like there's two versions of Xcode  3.2.7 which has a release date of Sep 2011, and 3.2 with a release date of Jan 2012.
Which one should I download?   And if I download one of these will it be a problem if I do upgrade to Lion in a few months?

  • How can I upgrade from OS X Snow Leopard to OS X Lion?

How can I upgrade from OS X Snow Leopard to OS X Lion?

Well Mt Lion is the latest, but if your machine can't do 10.8, then call Apple via phone and order 10.7
However you really need to do your homework first, as a lot of software and drivers could stop in 10.7, no Rosetta like in 10.6, could cost you plenty.
Things to consider before upgrading OS X

  • How can I tell where data downloads are coming from

I have an issue where 500 MB of data was downloaded automatically, I presume via push notifications.  How can I check where this data hs come from?
    Graham

    Hi..
Your downloads? Are you referring to your Mac OS X system software???
Click your Apple menu icon top left corner of your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update ...

  • How can you tell where a call is actually coming from not just where the phone was activated?

me and my wife check our account and we are wondering how we can find out where our son is calling from it only puts the town where we originally signed up with Verizon, help please!!!!

If this is a Microsoft based phone AND you have location awareness turned on AND they have this phone tied to a Microsoft account AND you have access to all of the account information, then there is a Microsoft web site that will show you the current location of the phone.  Otherwise MrGecko is pretty much dead on.  You would have to have an app on the phone, or pay Verizon more money to give you the location.

  • HT6154 How can I tell where my apple account is connected to?

How can I find out how many devices my apple account is connected to?

    Hey Josephs327!
The information you are looking for can be found in the following article:
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
You can view which devices or computers are currently associated with your Apple ID, remove unused devices or computers, and view how many days remain before the devices or computers can be associated with a different Apple ID from the Account Information page in iTunes on your computer:
    Open iTunes.
Sign in to your Apple ID by choosing Store > Sign In from the iTunes menu.
Choose Store > View My Account from the iTunes menu.
From the Account Information screen, click Manage Devices.
Next to each device or computer name, you will be able to see when each device or computer was associated with your Apple ID. You will also be able to track how many days remain before your associated devices or computers can be associated with a different Apple ID.
Note: If no devices have been associated with the Apple ID, then the Manage Devices section will not be visible.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,

  • How can I tell where my CC licenses are being used?

I own several CC-for-teams seats, but they are activated and deactivated on many computers constantly.
How can I keep track of what licenses are in use on my computers? Are the MAC addresses or hostnames stored someplace?
If I need to retreive a license, must I do so by user (email address), or can I revoke a license from a machine instead?
For that matter, does Adobe offer per-machine or concurrent licensing as an alternative to CC-for-teams? How do Enterprise users manage?
    Thanks,
    Yet-another-CC-user

    Hi DEQRTWDWYQD,
The CC is based on Adobe ID.Each CC Adobe Id entitles you for two installs, so the moment it is tried to be installed on the third computer, it gives you a prompt to deactivate from the previous machines..
If you want to retreive a license, you have to revoke the invite from the Admin console by clicking on the cross in front of the Email Adress.
As of now the enterprise users manage by deploying packages from the creative Cloud Packager.

  • How can i reinstall os one Imac Snow leopard 10,6,4

i have to reinstall my i-mac, snow leopard OS. the problem i have is that the mac dont takes the install cd, no matter what i try. the only thing what happens is that i can see the apple and i can hear that its working, but the cd becomes throw out after some seconds. im not able to start it at all, no matter what i do. after i let run the hardware-test i get the message that nothing is wrong, but still i can not install or start the mac. i have no idea what i should do or how i should do it. it was now 2 times in a service, the only thing i was told that everything is ok and i only have to reinstall it....i try my best, but it still will not do anything!! also the company info-care norge which has the mac-service tells me only to install all new and that it has nothing to do with my guaranty.

Report the company to AppleCare directly:
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
Obviously they don't know some basic troubleshooting steps and need to either lose their service provider agreement or get better training.
Some of those basic steps are to:
    1. Determine if your machine is too new to use the 10.6.3 retail, and then determine if you were using the prebundled disc that came with your Mac. Look at your Mac's serial number. The 5 alphanumeric characters that start it tell you how new it is.
xx013 or greater to xx111 can't use anything other than the prebundled discs.
xx935 to xx952 and xx001 to xx012 can use the 10.6.3 retail and prebundled discs that came with the Mac.
xx602 to xx934 can use any Snow Leopard retail and the prebundled discs, as long as 1 GB of RAM or more is installed.
xx601 and less can't use Snow Leopard at all.
Retail discs must look like * and not say Upgrade Dropin, or OEM.
x can be any letter or number.
    2. Make sure the Mac is less than 4 years old. If it is more than 4 years old, to check if the PRAM battery is aging.
    3. Determine if any of their discs that meet qualifications of #1 work. If they do, then ask Apple ship you replacement discs. If they don't, they should test an external optical bootable DVD drive to see if that works. And if that doesn't work to determine if the machine is stuck in a firmware upgrade loop, or firmware password reset loop, or if the hard drive is dying, or if one of your connected peripherals might not be compatible with the installer.
