How can I transfer Final Cut Pro 6 projects into Adobe Premiere CS5.5?

I produced a whole whack of videos in FCP7. Then I got a new Apple Quad Core Intel Mac about a year ago... To find that FCP7 was no longer even usable. I still have FCP 6 on my Intel Core 2 Duo Apple Powerbook... I've read that I can export FCP6 XML files and import them into Premiere, but when I do this Premiere just crashes. This is a major pain in the AS%. Can anybody help me here?? What is the most elegant simple solution that will allow me to get back to work, on my new computer, using the FCP material? Thanks

Hi Matthew,
If you do a search on this forum, you will find lots of folks who are using FCP7 with Lion.

As Kappy said, download it from the App Store - this will give you a brand new copy. However unlikely, it's just possible you might be copying a corrupt version from the original computer.
In the App Store, make certain you use the same Apple ID that the App was purchased with.

    Hi -
Mr. Ross is right, there is no direct way to export your project with all it's elements into iMovie.
If, on the other hand, you have a completed sequence in FCP that you want to export as a finished element, then import into iMovie for you to re-edit or apply titles, music, etc. you would:
    In FCP:
Click on the Sequence Icon you want to export in your browser.
Go to the menu File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Give your movie a name a navigate to where you want it stored. Make sure you choose Settings: Current Settings and have the Make Movie Self Contained checked. Click Save.
    Close FCP and open iMovie.
    In iMovie:
Go to the menu File > Import > Movies and navigate to the movie you just exported from FCP. Choose if you want your movie imported in it's original size, etc.
Click Import. Your movie will be imported into iMovie.
Note that using this method only gives you only the elements that made up your FCP sequence, so this may not give you the flexibility you need.
    Hope this helps.

You need the Final Cut Studio forum.
This is just for FCP X.

  • I can't import final cut pro projects into FCPX after updating.

I've come back to my computer after the holidays with the newest update of FCPX and now my library and media have disapeared out of the app. I can't seem to import the project files into the program either.
    Any assistance would be appriciated.

You need to update your projects and events in the File menu.

  • Converting a Final Cut Pro project into one Final Cut Express HD can read..

Is there any way I can convert a final cut pro project into something i can open in an earlier version of final cut, namely final cut express HD?

    Tim,
Unfortunately you can not go from FCP to FCExpress. You can go backwards from say FCP7 to FCP6 or FCP 5 using XML's. The XML version depends on which FCP you have.

  • How can I make Final cut pro 7 and Yosemite work?

    Hi dear Apple.
I have this huge problem with Final cut pro 7 and Yosemite.
I have tried to install it on a Mac book pro that has Yosemite but it doesn't work.
I have an I mac with finalcut pro 7 working on Lion but I need to upgrade it to Yosemite to be able to use CC Adobe.
I have a feature film worth 6,7 million SEK with Final cut pro 7 and I can't translate it to XML files to premiere cause it is in its last editing process. I get an error everytime I try. Also the last version of Fcp (X) ***** for a professional editor. So.. My only option is to finish this film in Fcp7.
How can I use Yosemite and still be able to keep Fcp7?
Please help me or do something about this issue soon. I bought fcp7 for 11000 SEK at the time that was quite expensive.

Hi Meg the dog! Thanx for answering!
I know it was left to die 4 years ago. I just think its ****** up.. I work with documentaries and it takes quite a while to finish. I have done one for 6 years now. If I had known that Fcp7 was left to die I would never had started to edit 6 years ago...
I did try this recommended on the forum by another user:
Go to the app location in finder, CTRL click on the app and choose [Show Package Contents]. A folder [Contents] appears, click on it and choose [MacOS]. You'll see a Unix executable. Double click, you'll start Terminal. At the same time fcp will launch. After fcp is launched, close terminal and confirm when asked. Now fcp is up and running. Close fcp and the next time, just open fcp the normal way. DONE!
But it doesn't work for me. I can't launch fcp7.
I have Fcp7 Installed on my I mac and I wonder if that will effect fcp7 if I upgrade to Yosemte?
I tryed to export XML to work on premiere and this is what happends:
Any recommendations? I am going crazy here..

  • How can I move Final Cut Pro folders?

    Hey guys!
I'm trying to figure out how to move the "Final Cut Backups", "Final Cut Pro", and "Motion Templates" folders out of my Movies folder. I keep a bunch of my own movies in that folder, and having those 3 in there becomes an inconvenience.
I've tried to move all my Final Cut Pro media over to an external and when I load videos I want to edit from there, Final Cut Pro still makes folders in my Movies folder instead of my external.
I want Final Cut Pro to set all destinations to my external. Making my external the main place it stores and saves all files/folders.
Even if there isn't any "Change destination" option within Final Cut Pro, could this be done through Terminal in any way?
I am currently using Final Cut Pro X (10.1.2)
    Thank you so much!

You can move them in the Finder. I wouldn't move Motion Templates, however.
Where FCP stores the other files can be set in the Inspector.

  • How can i get my Imac, running OSX 10.6.8 with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, how can i get Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD studio pro 2 to run on it?

I just bought an IMAC running OSX 10.6.8 (not sure what flavor that is). The processor is 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006). When i run Final Cut Pro 4 on it I get the following error.
                        "Configuration error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
                                    * AGP graphics Card"
If Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't run on my system, what version of Final Cut can I run on this as I am a filmmaker and really am comfortable with Final Cut Pro.
On the same note I also have DVD studio Pro 2 and that just quits without any message.
Hope any of you can be some help.
    Thank you,
    Doug

    Hi,

  • Can't recover Final Cut Pro project from backup.

I recently got a new mac and had backed up all my saved data onto an external hard drive with my old one.  When I was setting up my new mac I recovered it from an existing backup (my old computer) and everything seemed to be back to normal.  On my old computer I was in the process of making a video with Final Cut Pro X and made sure that it was backed up onto the external hard drive. On my new mac when I tried to recover it, it appeared as a file that couldn't be opened with FCP. Within FCP it had the video but all of the files were missing.  I started to relink all of the files but there has to be a faster way.
How do I recover this file?  Is there a way to just import the backup without having to ever relink files?
    Thanks.

Are these systems backups (e.g., Time Machine)  or FCP X backups? What version of FCPX and ware they the same on both machines>
