How can I transfer images from digital camera without iPhoto?

The thing is that I wish to see my camera's card as an external storage device, as it happens when I connect it to my PC, so I can manually choose which to transfer and where.
But when I plug my camera it automatically opens iPhoto. At first,, this was fun, because I didn't even have to load any device drivers. But if you're using pro-camera equipment and manage and photoshop many images, like I do, an application like iPhoto isn't the way to do it.
Any feedback?
Thanks

iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Hi Panos,
I started using Image Capture to download all my images and Movie clips. I actually like doing it this way a lot better. My movie clips are downloaded into my Movies folder where I then put them in a dated folder.
My photos are downloaded into my Pictures folder, where I then put them in a dated folder. I import the dated folder into iPhoto. I also keep all dated folders from photo downloads in the Pictures folder till I get enough Movie folders and Photo folders to fill a DVD. I burn them and then delete them from the hard drive.
This way I have the photos in iPhoto and I also have just the photos backed up to DVD.
The Movies I keep on the hard drive in their dated folders until I use all the clips for my iMovie projects for the Year. I then make sure they are all burned to DVD, then I delete those from my hard drive.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

  • How Can I transfer images from my Ipad 2 onto a camera card?

I bought the Apple camera kit and can transfer images from my camera onto my IPAD 2, but how do I transfer images back onto the SD card?  Is this possible?

    More tips:
There are several WiFi transfer apps that allow you to move photos back and forth from the iPad to a computer or other iDevice.
Using an app like GoodReader also gives you a conduit to uploading the photos to Dropbox.
Using a photo management app like PhotoManager Pro also facilitates moving photos around and allows you to give photos a filename and caption.  SortShots allows you to tag the photos with keywords and is a powerful organizing app.
The SD card reader will also work with hand-scanners that save directly to an SD or Micro-SD, giving you the possibility of scanning items and directly loading to the iPad.

  • How can I see images from my camera using the HDMI cable? Is there an app to transfer jpgs?

I want to preview images from my Nikon DSLR on my ipad2. It would also be nice to see the same video when the camera is in live mode. I bought the Apple ipad-to-HDMI connector and an hdmi (camera to connector) cable. Everything hooks up but nothing happens when I take a picture or view a pictures on the camera.
Do I need an app for this?
I know there is a USB based camera connection kit too - however I was hoping to have the HDMI also for outputing to a projector

That cable set up you have is probably not going to work.  The iOS devices seem a little sensitive to having the right connector for the right job.  I have the USB connector (and the HDMI one too) which is in 2 parts: mini USB link and SD. My older Nikon D70s does not use SD cards, so I use the cable. When connected any images on the card (in the camera) are displayed in the built-in Photo app in an Imports album.  Just touch the Import button and all are brought in.  I use RAW and have found that the RAW images are transferred to the computer (MacBook Pro + Aperture) when I get home.  A comparison (I kept the images on the card and imported from that too) shows that the resolution/size is identical.  As an additional note as you mentioned this, video clips work the same.
With all the connectors, I carry a small bag for the devices I work with.

  • How can I import images from my camera to my external drive instead of Mac, but still use IPhoto?

I would like to preserve space on my new Mac and import photos from my camera to my external drive instead of my Mac, while still being able to use Iphoto. Not sure how to specify this.

Move your Library to the Extnernal Disk -
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    Then import as normal.

  • How can I transfer songs from my iPhone without wiping the iPhone?

I have two computers. My original is a basic Dell that's really getting old and the other is a new one I custom built a year ago. My first computer, which I had all my iTunes stuff on, has started dying so I've decided to transfer all my music and iTunes over to the new computer. I transfered all my songs from iTunes over to the new computer (after re-downloading iTunes) and then popped in my iPhone.
The issue is this: the new iTunes library is missing 200 songs that my iPhone has. Well, whatever, I figured I'd just sync it. But if I sync from my phone to the new computer it wipes out my phone and gives me the stuff in iTunes, so then I'm out 200 songs. So I tried hitting "Manually Sync this phone". Same thing, if I try and hit apply it says it'll wipe out my phone because it's already synced to the old computer.
Is there a way to un-sync my phone from the old computer, or a way that I can move my music from the phone over to the new computer without wiping it?

iPhone Data Transfer is another choice which lets you copy sms, contacts, notes, bookmarks, songs, vidoes, photos and call log etc from old iPhone 3GS/4/4S/5 to your new iPhone 5S or iPhone 5S.
Most important is these data will be merged perfectly on your new iPhone. No data loss worry.
    Best luck!

  • How can I transfer photos from my iPhone to iPhoto without iCloud getting involved?

    Hi All:
I would like to transfer photos to iphoto without iCloud synching.  Last time I synched my iphone to my laptop icloud changed my .mail account setting and moved/added folders within .mail.  It took me a very long time to figure out what happened.  I do not wish to fool around in Terminal either.

Yes that is correct, thank you.  I knew how to do that, I was concerned iCloud would would then do some mojo to my lap top.  Apparently after syncing with iCloud once it's happy for a while.

To sync photos from a Mac or Windows PC to your device using photo applications
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
In iTunes, select your device's icon in the Devices list on the left.
    Click the Photos tab.
    Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Note: Some versions of Photoshop Album and Photoshop Elements don't support collections. You can still use them to sync all your photos.
If you want to sync all your photos, enable the option for "All photos, albums, events, and faces." If you want to sync photos from only some albums, events, or faces, enable the option for "Selected albums, events, and faces" and then select the albums you want. If syncing on a Mac with iPhoto version 6.0.6 or later, you may enable the option to "Include videos" to sync videos directly from iPhoto to your device. (Requires iOS 3.0 or later).
    Click Apply.
To sync photos from a folder on your hard disk to your device
Drag the images you want into a folder on your computer. If you want images to appear in separate photo albums on your device, create folders inside the main folder and drag images into the new folders.
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left.
    Choose "Sync photos from."
Select Choose Folder from the pop-up menu and choose your main image folder.
    Click Apply.

Plug the iPad into your computer using the USB cable and then use whatever app your computer has for downloading images from a digital camera. When the iPad is connected, the computer will see the camera roll as a digital camera. I'm not a PC person, so I can't tell you which app to use on the computer, sorry.

  • How can you transfer photos from one phone to another

How can you transfer photos from phone to phone

If you are trying to get all the photos from an old phone to your new phone, you could sync the old phone which would create a backup containing your Camera Roll. Then connect the new phone and follow the prompts to register and name your new phone. You will then be given the choice of restoring data to your new phone from a backup of the old phone. This will replace any existing data on the new phone with the data from the backup so it's really the best option if the other phone is new.
Another option would be to connect the phone to your computer and import your photos to iPhoto or the My Pictures folder. Then you could sync the other phone and under the Photos tab in iTunes you could choose the folders/albums of pictures you want on the phone. They will not be in the Camera Roll, but they will be on the phone.
    I hope this helps.

How can I transfer pictures from my computer to my ipad?

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.
