To read on the iMac you need Mavericks...if you have Mavericks, the library for iBooks is available to both devices...open iBooks on the iMac and go to the Library.  Of course that does want to see an iCloud account, forgot to say that.

  • How can I transfer iPhoto files from one admin user to another on the same Mac?

i created a new admin user on my computer, so now my husband has one and so do i. how can i transfer our iphoto files from his admin user to mine as a shared file? i was able to do this with itunes easily but i am not able to do it with iphoto.

You want to share the Library?
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • How can I transfer music back from iPod to MacBook and iMac after a MacBook

My MacBook Pro (2 years old) recently suffered a harddrive failure. I had all my music on this computer and of course on my iPod 80GB. Now I have a new drive in the MacBook with no music and all the music on the iPod. How can I transfer the music back from the iPod to the MacBook? I also have an iMac and would like to doubly back up my music on this unit (in case - or rather "when" there is another drive failure). Connecting the iPod doesn't work as it just asks me to erase and resync. There HAS to be some way around this, I couldn't possibly be the only person in the world with a drive failure!

1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • How can open an iPhoto album from Finder?

I want to be able to double-click on something in Finder that will open up iPhoto to a specific album.
For a lengthy explanation, read on.
In Finder, I'm making a folder which will hold everything plot-related about the video game The Last of Us (for my own plot-referencing pleasure). Right now it contains a bunch of video clips. Well, you know that comic book prequel of the game; "American Dreams" it's called? I scanned the pages of it and saved the images to my computer, and I want to be able to access them from the Finder folder I'm making.
I could just stuff them in as lone JPGs that open individually in Preview...but I object to doing that, because first off, Preview is ugly, and I don't want my vibe getting ruined by all that white and grey. Second, I want be able to quickly flip through the scanned pages, rather than open the images one at a time. Trying to solve that second issue, I saved all the images into one PDF so I'd be able to easily flip through the images like I want to, but when I looked the PDF over, I realized I still didn't like the feel of that Preview format. Still too grey and white and ew.
SO, I put all the images, in order, into iPhoto (in an album that I named "TLoU: American Dreams - Scanned Pages"). They look great in iPhoto! Only thing is... Yeah, the images are nice and tidy in the iPhoto album...but to view them in iPhoto, I have to open up that application and navigate to the album. Which doesn't jibe with my original idea of packing all TLoU-related files into one Finder folder.
***With MP4 video files, you can double-click on one in Finder and it'll take you right to QuickTime Player. With JPGs, when you double-click in Finder it'll open up in Preview. I could set the preferences so that it'd open the image using iPhoto, but then I'd just be viewing a single image in iPhoto. I want to be taken to an album of pictures in iPhoto. I want to double-click on something in Finder that will open up to an album in iPhoto.***
Is this possible? How do I do it? (If it's not possible, then can you suggest for some kind of workaround?)
Thanks so much. If it seems like I'm awfully nitpicky, it's because I am.

Also, if you just want to chat about TLoU, I'm perfectly fine with that as well

  • How can I transfer an album from my iPad to my PC?

Hey guys. I appreciate this topic has been touched on before but couldn't really find an answer.
I uploaded some photos ages ago onto my iPad and that was that. I don't have the 'originals' stored on a PC/ USB stick anymore but would like to transfer the album with these photos in to my current PC. I must be able to do this somehow? I find it hard to believe that Apple doesn't have an App for this at least...
    Thanks

  • How can I get iPhoto 6 on my laptop from my iMac?

I purchased a new iMac with the latest version of iPhoto (6). I have a PowerBook that has version 5. How can I copy version 6 to my laptop? I tried to do this, but everytime I go to use it on the laptop all the pictures and slide shows on the laptop disappear.

    neskire
Copying it from your iMac to your laptop could be a breach of your licence. In each case - unless you have a family licence - the app is permitted on one machine only.
There is a big difference in the library structure in v6 from v5, and the app needs to update the library. If it's unable to do so it could be a case of database corruption.
    What do you mean 'disappear'?

  • How can I transfer CD albums, on iTunes, from a Mac to Macbook Air?

I have recently purchased a MacBook Air, and I am trying to figure out a way of transferring my iTunes library from my old Mac to the new MacBook Air.
While I have managed to download my purchased music from my iTunes account, I have yet been able to find a way of transferring CD Albums, which I have added to my old Mac, onto the new MacBook Air. This is a problem due to the MacBook Air not having a disk drive.
Is there some kind of process that I can do easily from one to the other, or is it a case of backing up my iTunes library onto an external drive and transferring it over that way? If the latter, how would I go about doing this? If possible, a step-by-step would be appreciated.
    Many Thanks,
    Walcnevar

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
