How can I transfer itunes library from old pc to new imac?
I just got a new iMac and am trying to transfer iTunes library from old PC (barely running) to new iMac. I tried through Home Sharing but couldn't find how to sync. Is it necessary to get Firewire? Or should I sync it from my iPad? I'd like to avoid the middleman. Thanks!

We have an old computer that is broken so no internet connection possible, but now want to transfer our iTunes Library from old computer to our new computer. Can it be done and if so how?
You will have to use a storage device to do so, such as a hard drive or media disk(DVD).

I sold my MacBook Pro to downsize to a more managable MacBook Air. I backed up iTunes to my external HD before selling my Pro, but don't have room for my whole library to the Air until I upgrade the size of my SSD. I want to see if I can transfer just the iTunes library from my external HD to a thumb drive using my MacBook.
Also, is there a way to manage and edit my iTunes library on my external HD so I can at least download some of the library to my Air?This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.

How/can I update itunes library from ipod
I had a previous version of iTunes on a work PC, which I had copied my entire CD collection onto. I have since moved companies and hence lost the laptop. I(maybe stupidly) assumed that I could update the iTunes library from the iPod.
Having searched the support pages, the only way that I can tell to do this was to export the library in the first place, which I did not do. Also iTunes seems to want to delete everything from my iPod everytime I try to do anything?!?
I really want to avoid spending every evening for another week downloading all the albums again, so any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks
MarkIf you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended (as previously mentioned) is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player. -
How to transfer itunes library from a mac to a pc
I would like to transfer my itunes library from my power mac G5 to my pc's running windows xp (the computers are on the same home network). What is the best method for transfering.
Thank you.Follow the instructions in this article, open the folder Users/username/Music/iTunes/ on the Mac's hard disk, where username is the path to that account's home folder and the rest of the path is changed if needed, drag the iTunes Music folder to the PC, and either drag that folder into iTunes or quit iTunes and place it where the current iTunes Music folder is, renaming the existing folder. Playlists and other metadata will be preserved in the second case, but not the first.

How can I take my library from a mac to a windows computer
I have an old ibook that has all of my songs in it. we recently got a new windows computer in place of that computer. I don't want to loose my songs! How can i move the library?! Is it possible to do it from my ipod?
*How can i move the library?! Is it possible to do it from my ipod?*
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

iPod2PC Windows Only
iGadget Windows Only
iDump Windows Only
SharePod Windows Only
iRepo Mac and Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod -
How do I transfer my library from this mac to a new mac
How do I transfer my itunes library from this MacBook Pro to a new one? I am using an iPod Touch...
the simplest way, assuming all your media files are in the default location, would be to connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in Target Disk Mode, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).

How can I transfer iTunes library to a new Apple ID?
I have a substantial quantity of music in iTunes on a old lap top. All the music has been put on to my iPod. None of it was purchased from iTunes but was uploaded from CD's. I have since moved from the UK to France with a new lap top and now have a new e-mail address. The old email address which is now defunct, was assigned to the iTunes account on the old laptop. I downloaded iTunes on to my new laptop and assigned a Frecnh email to it. I want to get rid of the old lap top, but need to transfer the library to the new Apple ID. I have tried to change my Apple ID on the old laptop to match the one I am currently using but do not appear to be able to do so as Apple will not permit me to used the email address assigned to the new account. Is there any way to transfer the library over?

How do I transfer ITunes library from old hard drive to new hard drive
I got a new computer and trying to transfer my ITunes library ( Apps, Music, video's). How do I go about this. I copied the library to my backup drive. I can't transfer the files. What am I missing ?
This is the method I would normally recommend:
Backup with this User Tip, restore the library to the new computer using the same tool, keep the backup up-to-date in future. Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer need to access protected content on it.
You can use your iPod classic to move your library to a new computer but if you don't already have a backup copy of the library (and your other important data) now is the time to think about it.
