How can i transfer my songs to my new computer? not using an ipod!

Okay, not that the whole ipod hard drive situation is convenient anyway. I mean I didn't even realize that there was a certain way to save the files in need of transferring the songs. Here's the situation. I was using my boyfriend's dad's computer till I got mine, and I got mine only a week before coming to Japan. I was crunched for time, and I guess I didn't research it thoroughly, but knew I could use my ipod to transfer the songs. So I downloaded the songs onto my ipod. It wasn't till later when I realized why it wasn't working. Well now I'm in a bit of a pickle because I won't be able to get my ipod hooked up with that computer till next May. My boyfriend is coming to visit however next month, and was wondering if there was a convenient way for him to save the files, short of 50 cds, to allow me to transfer my music when he gets here. I searched the forums, but they all seem foreign! Can anyone help me?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. Are data DVDs expensive? and where can I find them? Once I get them, can I use the same steps as transferring songs using my old ipod? Couldn't find anything on transferring songs not with an ipod. Do I have to change preferences before saving them onto the DVD's. I can't seem to find that page again, but it seemed pretty specific about the steps I needed to take before saving the files onto the ipod and after hooking it up with the new computer. Can you help me with this?
Sincerely, Diana

I have an oder Ipod shuffle with many songs loaded on it. How can I transfer ths songs to a new computer since the old computer is no longer available?

I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What operating system are you running and what version of it is it?

  • How can I transfer Photoshop CS3 to my new computer

How can I transfer Photoshop CS3 to my new computer. I cannot find the original documentation with serial number etc

For downloads of CS3 see THIS thread.
    For your serial number, if Photoshop is still running on your old machine;
Start Photoshop. Goto Help > System Info. Buried in amongst all the stuff in there will be your serial number. Read through it carefully.
If Photoshop is not installed / running on your old machine, then you are indeed pretty much hosed.
This is always assuming software that old will run successfully on a new machine, of course.

  • HT1589 how can i transfer my library to a new computer? old computer is not working

how can i transfer my i-tunes library to a new computer? my old computer is not working.

It has alwasy been very basic to always maintain a backup copy.  Have you failed to do this?  not good.
You would have to take the hard drive out of your old computer and connect it to your new and transfer the info.

Copy the downloaded file to the new computer and install it. You will still need the S/N to complete the process.

  • Old computer is broke, how can I get my songs onto the new computer?

My other computer with Itunes and all my songs was dropped and broke. We were unable to recover any of the songs. I have all the songs on my ipod though. So I downloaded Itunes onto this new computer, and now I am trying to add my recently downloaded songs to the ipod, and it keeps telling me that I need to erase the library and replace it with the new library. I don't want to lose all the songs I have now! What can I do? Is there any way to put all the songs from my ipod into Itunes just by using the ipod??

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How can I transfer my iphone to a new computer without losing my apps

    Hi,
    so here's my story:
I share a computer with another family member (computer 1) and we each have our own iphones with different apple ID's on computer 1.  I recently got a new computer though and downloaded itunes onto it (computer 2). I've already started adding music to computer 2 and now I want to move my iphone to computer 2. How can I do that so that I do not lose all my apps? I guess it would be okay to lose the pictures and music because I already have a way to recover those.  But I wouldn't mind if anyone has a way to salvage everything. Also, it should be noted that I do not prefer to keep computer 1's library.
Second question: If I were to copy computer 1's library to computer 2, would I be able to keep the existing music from computer 2, or would it just replace the whole library with the copy of computer 1's?
Third question: Computer 2 claims that there is now a backup of my iphone on it, but still won't let me sync the phone. If I were to go ahead and say, "yes, sync the phone and erase the content," would computer 2 allow me to restore the phone or not? (because it's still synced to computer 1)
    Thanks in advance everyone!
    Sincerely, the dark night

  • How do i transfer my songs to a new computer?

I recently got a new laptop and I havnt loaded my ipod on here yet because I am scared if I do it will erase all my songs that I have on it. Does anyone know if this will happen? If not what should i do?
    Compaq   Windows XP Pro   Laptop

    1) If Itunes is already installed disk use may need to enabled so you can see the Ipod in my computer. Itunes hides your ipod from windows otherwise.
    2) Make sure you can view hidden files. In MY computer go to tools>folder options>view>show hidden files and folders.
    3) Windows should see the ipod and your music should be on your ipod in several hidden folders. To be safe I would copy it all to say your desktop.
    4) Install Itunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and the Ipod updater http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ (if you don't already have it installed)
After that drag the copied folder to Itunes (drag and drop or in Itunes (File>add folder to library)
You may need to authorise your new computer by playing it in the library first.
