How can I transfer songs from GarageBand on iPad to GarageBand 6 (from iLife '11)?

I would like to know an easy way to transfer current projects from my iPad to my computer (which has GarageBand 6) and still be able to work on them. Please don't tell me that I should get Mavericks, which comes with GarageBand 10, because I can't afford a newer Mac right now. Any help would be appreciated.

See this document:
GarageBand for iOS and Mac: Project compatibility http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4574
GarageBand 6.0.2 can open GarageBand for iOS projects, but  it will depend on the version on your iPad. If you already upgraded to GarageBand 2.0 iOS, you may be out of luck.
To transfer the projects from your iPad, try to transfer using iTunes:
http://help.apple.com/garageband/ipad/1.4/index.html#chsec12c387
Send a GarageBand song to iTunes:
Tap the My Songs button, then tap Edit.
Tap the song you want to send, then tap the Share button
Tap Share Song via iTunes.
Do one of the following: After you tap the iTunes icon, you can choose the quality of the file GarageBand sends to iTunes. You can also add artist, composer, and title information that appears in iTunes.
To send the song as a GarageBand song, tap GarageBand.
To send the song as an audio file, tap iTunes, then tap Share.
Sync your iPad with your computer. In iTunes, the exported song appears in the Documents list in the File Sharing area when GarageBand is selected.
Do one of the following:
Drag the song from the GarageBand Documents list to the Finder.
Click Save As, navigate to the location where you want to save the song, then click Save.
You can open the GarageBand song in GarageBand on your Mac, or play the audio file in iTunes (or any compatible audio application) on your computer. GarageBand songs cannot be opened on a Windows computer.

Connect the phone to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (on iTunes 11 on a PC you can enable the sidebar via control-S, on a Mac via option-command-S) and on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen select the Music tab and use that to select which of your computer's iTunes music to sync to your phone's Music app.

Purchases made under 1 Apple ID are permanently associated with that Apple ID and CANNOT be transferred to another Apple ID.  So if you want to keep those songs, you'll need to always have access to your dad's account.

If I click yes, all my existing songs are replaced with HIS songs. If I click on NO, the Shuffle icon does not appear at all and I cannot transfer any of his songs to my shuffle. How can I transfer songs from two different computers into my shuffle without replacing any of my existing music?

You'll have to setup your iPod to manual instead of automatic update (I'm not sure, though, if it works with the Shuffle as well).

  • How can i transfer songs from one itunes to another?

I have a new computer and want to transfer all of my songs from one computer to another.  I have home sharing turned on but can't figure out how to save the songs to the new computer.

I have home sharing turned on but can't figure out how to save the songs to the new computer.
First, make sure you've got the home share set up on both computers, as per the following document. If material on the original PC was bought from the iTunes Store, I'd use the AppleID you used for the purchases to set up the Home Share on both PCs.
iTunes: Setting up Home Sharing on your computer
Have both computers running and have iTunes open on both computers.
Now, in the iTunes on the computer you want to transfer music to, select the library that you want to transfer music from, as per the following screenshot:
Once the other library loads, go down to the bottom of the screen and in "Show:" select "Items not in my library":
If you want to import all of the songs you can now see, head up to the iTunes menu bar and go "Edit > Select all". Then head down to the bottom of the screen again and click the "Import" button in the bottom-right-hand corner.
If there's a lot of stuff in your original PC's library, the transfer may take some time.

  • How can I transfer songs from Ipod to Itunes library?

I recently lost my entire Itunes library but still had songs on my Ipod. Now when I try to rebuild my library by transferring songs FROM my Ipod TO the Itunes library, I am unable to. There are a million help subjects of how to transfer your songs from the library to the ipod but none about how to transfer them back and I can't figure it out. Please help!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How can I transfer songs from my iPod to my re-formatted system?

I had to re-format my Windows XP Pro system due to a virus. If I try to connect my iPod, it will loose all the songs when it does an automatic sync. I can't turn it off unless I hook it up. How can I take care of this problem and save my song lists on my reformatted system.

    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method I've seen posted. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.
