If an iPad is assigned to a user, how can we transfer the video from the iPad (either the Camera Roll or iMovie app) to a Computer so the video can be saved to the user's network folder and then played on the classroom SmartBoard. Thank you. We use Dropbox as well and discovered how easy it is to sync the Camera Roll from the iPad to a Dropbox account.
I also found out that videos & pics can be transferred using iPhoto on the computer where the iPads are synced. I've tried both options and they both work well.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

If you are referring to the Camera Roll, there is no way for you to sync video from the computer to the Camera Roll. And, as you have already discovered, when you attempt to sync video to the phone it appears in the video app, which is where they are supposed to appear. The only way for video to appear in the Camera Roll is for it to have been taken by the iPhone and not deleted from the Camera Roll.
