How can I unblock a file being downloaded?

When I try to download files such as skype from the internet when I click save file as instructed, it blocks the download, if it does download it I can't click it in my documents to open and run the file. How do I unblock these downloads and allow them.

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
You can try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
Do not forget to re-enable the scanning in your anti-virus software after you are finished with downloading and installing.

    The easiest method would be to restore them from the last Time Machine backup made just prior to the update. 
    Or use a file recovery application to recovery them.  Most have a demo mode so you can determine if it can find the files you need before purchasing it.  Go to MacUpdate.com and do a search for "recover files" to get a list of potential candidates.

    Problem
    On my Mac Mini, the operation to drag a pdf file from the downloads folder to the desktop has frozen. Nothing I do, can delete the file, interrupt the process or arrest the spinning progress wheel.
    Other Symptoms
    The rest of the system (OSX 10.7.3) has become sluggish and Paralles 7 / Windows 7 won't open.  Some preferences in Mail (from whiuch the pdf origintaed) have become corrupted or lost. 
    Now, Finder wont reveal certain document sub-folders which were connected with the 'dragging' operation, but shows them empty even though I have since moved files into them.
    Solutions Tried so Far
    I've run Cocktail (including repair permissions), rebooted several times and re-started in safe mode.
    Proposed Solutions
    Re-Install the OS
    Re-Format and rebuild all programmes, apps and files from uncoruupted back-ups
    Before embarking on this fairly heavy process I'd value any more informed suggestions please.

    For the record and in the hope it may help others with a similar snag, this is the questoner posting the solution I've finally worked out. As is so often the case, it was simple to solve and I am very red-faced that I didn't think of it sooner!
    Force quit all the apps AND relaunch Finder. Viola! The errant file that refused to be dragged to a new location did make it to the new destination, the wretched revolving progress wheel and dialogue box disappeared and everything works fine once again!

    That's how I thought to do it to, but as soon as I try the link, the browser tries to take me to a non-existent page.
    For example, if I attach the link to article.pdf, and then click on it, the browser tries to take me to www.mysite.com/article.pdf. I just want it so that when someone clicks on the text, the download box appears and they can download the pdf.

  • How can I stop midi files being played by the QT plugin in IE6?

    Since reloading XP and QT 7.5 Pro, I have a problem I did not have before. In Explorer, my .mid midi files are associated with my preferred Karaoke player.
    However, when I click on a .mid link on a web page in IE6, it uses the QT plugin to play it, rather than my preferred player. I have check my QT preferences file types, and midi files are definately NOT associated.
    Firefox did the same, so I simply disabled the plugin, clicked a .mid link, and Firefox then asked me to choose a player. However, if I disable the plugin in IE6, when I click a .mid link, I just get a blank page and a baloon warning me the page is trying to use a disabled plug in. My only option at this point is to quit or re-enable the plugin.
    Can anybody please help?

    In case anyone is interested, I managed to solve this. Basically I disabled the QT plugin, went into Windows media player and assigned midi files to it. Then I went into Explorer and switched the files back to use my Karaoke player. THen I unassigned midi in Media player and reenabled the QT plugin. Bingo!

    I actually had no clue what the core problem was caused by. So it's Windows itself...that helps some.
    I'll resubmit there. It might actually have saved time for it to simply have been moved to there instead of off-topic, though I suppose you have to follow protocol.

    Firefox 3.6.* and earlier set the downloaded file's modification time to the current time. In Firefox 4.0 the behavior has been changed, if a server returns a timestamp telling when the file was last modified (Last-Modified header), it is used instead.
    You can revert to the previous behaviour by using the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/93121/ Download Timestamp] add-on.

    Thank's for your efforts, and I just wish that this was the solution.  Unfortunately, it isn't because, after double-clicking on the pdf in the website, it simply "opens" in another Safari window as a black screen - the pdf is there, somewhere, but not visible (either as an icon, or as a document). 
    When I right-click in the black Safari window, where the file is supposed to be, the only option available to display the file is to "Open file in Internet Explorer" (which is not what I want to do).  Other options include saving or printing the pdf, which I don't want until I've confirmed that it's the form that I want.  The same options are offered if I right-click on the file icon in the website.
    Any other suggestions, please?

    You may not be able to get a refund, since the terms of sale for the iTunes Store state that all sales are final. You can contact the iTunes Store, explain the reason for your request, and ask, though:
