How can I undo Converting Recovery Partition to Logical Drive (Oops...) - HP G62-b32sa???

I needed to create a new partition, but to do that Easeus Partition Master 9.00 Home Edition (I like using this compared to the Windows one..) stated that I needed to convert one of the 4 pre-made partitions from Primary to Logical. The following partitions were pre-made with my laptop, HP G62-b32SA, all of which were Primary:
*: SYSTEM
C:
D: RECOVERY
*: HP_TOOLS
I could only convert the "D: Recovery" to Logical, so I went ahead, and then could create a new partition. But now after reading several post on this Forum, I realised what a mistake that was. I found that that converting the Recovery partition to Logical renders it useless... "Oops" I said. Now I wonder that if I convert the Recovery partition back to Primary, will I be able to use it again, or has the damage been done? But then the other problem is that it won't allow me to convert the Recovery Partition back to Primary, claiming "there are no free MBR slots". Also, I have a feeling that I'll have to delete my newly created partition to convert the Recovery partition back to Primary, but then how do I create a new partition without converting any of the existing to Logical? Endless questions, I know. So now I ask, what is the best thing to do??
BTW this is my first HP Laptop...

  • How can I create a recovery partition to use Find my Mac?

I want to activate Find my Mac on my MBP.  The iCloud system preference says I don't have a recovery partition that's required for it.  It apparently didn't install when I upgraded to Mountain Lion.
How can I retroactively create a recovery partition?  There are no other partitions on the drive (other than the Macintosh HD, of course).
    Thanks.
    Rob

FIRST, assuming you do not have another Mac of the same model with a working restore, I would suggest using your Lion, mountaint lion or Maverick install to create a bootable system on a flash drive.  You will need a DMG image created with Disk Utility from that stick to recreate the restore partition on your mac.
Once you create the bootable USB stick, Use it to log in and follow the below process to back up the restore partition.  Then, save the DMG back up anywhere and finish the walk through on your normal operating partition.
Close Disk Utility if it is open.
    Open Terminal
    Enter the command below
defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled -bool true
Now open Disk Utility and pull down the Debug menu
    Click Show Every Partition
Now, select the Recovery Partition and create a new image.
NOTE: The Recovery Partition will need to be made in Read Only format if you wish to restore the image normally with disk utility or by software such as Deploy Studio.  If you take an image with Deploy Studio and want it to restore the Recovery Drive normally, you will need to adjust the Work Flow for Image Capture to use the Read Only format.  It will slow things down.  If you dont use the read only format, the .dmg will not scan properly. This is most likely because the recovery drive already hosts compressed files. That said, this guide WILL restore from even a compressed .dmg image.  HERE IS THE WALK THROUGH FOR RESTORING A SCANNED READ ONLY FORMATTED .DMG.
Copy the Recover HD.DMG image to a flash drive
The following must be on an Administrator account
Next, Log on to the admin account of the computer you wish to restore the MLTI Recovery Partition.
Copy the Recovery HD.DMG from your Flash drive to the HD
Enter the following command in terminal
    diskutil list
If there is no partition for the restore drive listed, then use Disk Utility to create a GUID Partition keeping in mind the size of the original restore partition. (19 gigs for the MLTI Version of the restore drive)
Open Terminal and enter the following command
sudo asr -noverify -source (PATH FOR DMG IMAGE HERE) -target (PATH FOR RECOVERY HD PARTITION HERE) -erase -noprompt
NOTES: You must replace the () and everything in between with the respective path. You can simple drag and drop the source (your .dmg) and your target (the drive to be restored) while you are typing in terminal.
    Enter admin password
In terminal Type the following command
    diskutil list
note which disk and slice is the restore partition. It should be /dev/disk0s3, but it could vary a bit.
Now, run the following in terminal
sudo asr adjust --target /dev/disk0s3 --settype "Apple_Boot"
REMEMBER: you may need to replace /dev/disk0s3 with your new restore partition's designation.
    Enter Admin Password when prompted
    Restart.
Don't forget to enter the following terminal command into the machine you took the Recovery HD image from.
defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled -bool false

  • Converting Recovery Partition to logical - Is it logical?!

    Hello everybody,
My new dv6-6070se with win7 64bit has 4 primary partitions. As a result I can't create new partitions.
But if I delete or convert one of them to logical, then It will be possible to create new partitions.
I have already made a set of Recovery DVDs with recovery manager. What happens if I convert the recovery partition (~15 GB) from primary to Logical. Does it affect the usefulness of this partition as a recovery source?
And similary I have 2 other little primary partitions, HP tools (99 MB) and SYSTEM (199 MB). How important are they?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advnce.

  • How can I restore the recovery partition of Lion without erasing drive?

    Hello there,
I have a mid-2011 MBP equipped with Snow Leopard, but at one point I needed to access the AHT, which doesn't boot from the second DVD, released months before. It turns out this Mac requires AHT to run from Lion's Recovery HD partition. Since this Mac doesn't contain any Lion software, is there a way I could install the content of Recovery HD without reinstalling Lion itself so I can have the AHT ready if I need to? Of course I don't want to erase nor get rid of Snow Leopard. Drive is not original.

Apple Hardware test is only available two methods on Intel Macs
Pre-July 20, 2011  Macs through the prebundled installer discs you can order for around $20 from AppleCare if you lost the disc.   The 'D' key boot then boots off the disc that contains the hardware test
Post-July 19, 2011 Macs through the 'D' key boot (no CD/DVD necessary, and no installed software necessary)
Both methods are described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
Dates given are based when the vintage of the Mac was sold through Apple authorized retail stores, and not when you bought an operating system or purchased used or refurbished.

That indicates something went wrong. Make sure no anti-virus software or firewalls are running on your system. Make sure iTunes is up to date. Then, follow the directions here to force the phone into recovery mode & restore it:

  • How do I create 2 Recovery partitions: one for Lion and one for Mountain Lion?

Well that is basically the question:
How do I create 2 recovery partitions: one for Lion and one for Mountain Lion?
Reason is that I would like to keep the option to return to Lion, or even better, have a seperate partition for eacht?

can I access my programs from the other partition, so I can save space ...
No, as far as I know, each one is completely separate - especially if you're dealing with two different versions of OS's.
is it possible to safely make an extra partion on a running drive (it is my main computer ...) The disk is large enough ...
how large would this have to be
I've personally never done it on a running drive - have read it's possible, but don't want to suggest it since I've never done it and wouldn't be sure about the steps. This is how I got to two partitions on my iMac:
Originally, I had just one partition with Snow Leopard. I used CCC to clone that to an external drive. Booted into that drive and used DU to partition and erase the internal. I then cloned the new clone back. Also cloned the same thing to the other partition which I then upgraded to Lion. So I had two OS's - SL and Lion. I've now decided to clone my SL to an external drive for occasional use and installed ML on that partition - so now I have Lion and ML.
There are two ways to get a "fresh" install: either download the OS again and install it on a partition of your choice or, as I've done as well, copy the installer to a safe place so you don't need to download it again. It does include whatever apps/software is included in the OS.  I've designated two smaller partitions on externals as my "fresh" installs of both Lion and ML for emergency or reinstall purposes (this is my way of dealing with not having install DVDs) - I took the time to install it there and then slowly add fresh installs of my important apps (either via download or install CD) - don't bother with the little/less used stuff, a current copy of that can be downloaded if and when I need it. I don't really update those two - that can also be done if/when I need it since that'll always change.
So, yesterday, I decided I wanted to start fresh with ML - booted into my fresh install of Lion (on external), wiped the SL partition on my internal and installed Lion. Decided to download a fresh copy of the ML installer and installed that. Then ran Software Update. After that, repaired permissions. Then I methodically opened every third party app and checked for updates - installed those where necessary. After all that, I simply copied (drag 'n drop) my entire Documents folder (which contains all my important data,, photos, etc) over from another backup.
This took a while, but mostly because of the long download times; the installs weren't all that bad. I should be running a really clean system now, especially since nothing was ported over except my Documents folder.

  • How can I undo an add-on settings sync?

I use Firefox Sync. As far as I can tell, bookmarks synced well. Tabs didn’t but that’s probably due to having opened to many on my main machine. Also add-ons synced i. e. the Firefox on a Ubuntu laptop now has all the add-ons that my home computer Firefox has. Unfortunately, the sync reset all of the settings in some add-ons. So, for example, in LeechBlock the list of websites that I’d like to block, the schedule and all the rules are gone. How can I undo the last sync? Or is there a way to make my main computer the master in all syncs?

The prefs that are set by an extension are usually not included in the Sync, so you get the default setting if you sync an extension from one computer to another.
Only prefs that have a corresponding services.sync.prefs.sync.* pref that is set to true will be synced to other devices.
If you want to sync additional prefs then you can create a corresponding Boolean sync pref yourself and set the value to true.
    * services.sync.prefs.sync. (with the pref name appended no space after the last dot)

If you want to just try the beta you can always use Sun's "Virtualbox".

  • How can I get a recovery disk for Satellite P300-1CI?

    Hi everybody,
first, sorry for my english, I'm a belgian and I speak french.
Yesterday I bought a toshiba Satellite P300-1CI, when I started, I must installed Vista home.
I would like to format my disk and reinstall my old Windows XP.
My question is : How can keep an image disk with Vista? I don't have an installation disk of Vista and don't know my registration key of it.
How can I have a recovery disk ?
    Can you help me please.
PS : Sorry for my english

    Hi mate
User manual is really interesting document and in most cases it answer all you questions ;)
Anyway, the Toshiba recovery disk should be created before you would format and install on the HDD.
You have to use the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator application in order to create the Recovery DVD.
    Now to you other question;
The Vista image which is preinstalled and placed on the Recovery disk (after recovery disk has been created) is activated already and you dont need to insert any keys or activate anything.

After getting an update from 10.6.8 many of my programs were no longer able to open. How can I undo the update or solve this problem another way?

Do you have a bootable clone from prior to the update? If so, roll back with that.
Are your apps that won't open PPC and do they need Rosetta? Do you need to activate Rosetta?
Have you considered reinstalling 10.6 from your install disc and then coming forward with the 10.6.8 Combo Updater, then doing software update and not including whatever it was you installed that caused this propblem?
By the way - what update was it that caused this problem?

  • How can I remove the BootCamp partition? as the size i created ws too small to install MS Office on 64Bit Windows 8.1 on MacBook Pro (Aug'13)

How can I remove the BootCamp partition drive for Windows 8.1, as the size which I created was too small for me to install Microsoft Office onto Windows 8.1 64-BIt. The machine which I have is the MacBook Pro 13' inch purchased in August 2013.

Either use Paragon's CampTuneX to resize it or use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition and restore the drive to one partition. Then create a new, larger Boot Camp partition. This will remove/delete/erase your Windows system.

  • How to completely erase ( no recovery partition remaining) a lion partition with disk utilities on lion install disk?

Where in a  lion install disc made from the installer can I find a bootable file with disk utilities?
I downloaded lion a few hours ago and installed.
I have 4 large hardrives (1.5TB) arranged in 8 partitions to allow me to work on a varied group of projects. I have some projects that need to be worked on with software running under Tiger, some with software that runs under leopard, some with snow leopard, and now Lion. I own multiple copies of software and multiple user pack system install discs.
On a regular basis, I back up chunks of work on projects to external discs, and special backup areas on one of my drives. I don't like using time machine because I am running many operating environments on my mac pro and I don't ever want to be tied to one operating environment for important functionality, and I want to maximize the open space on my hard drives.
Several partitions involve large video files. I am working on them in various versions of final cut, premiere and imovie. Because I have to use the same software versions my different clients are running, I don't want to move all the files " up" to a modern version. It would be professional suicide to stop accommodating my various clients. I say this to try to head off being told to make my clients upgrade. There are too many different clients and they are not going to replace all their equipment.
On these volumes with video files, I often fill them up and copy off what I need to backup before I erase and do a clean install.  I also run VM Fusion and windows XP. I absolutely do not want to have a Recovery HD partition left on the drive when I erase or influencing the other partions using different OS versions on that same drive.
Is there a bootable disc on the installer disk I just made? Can I use the disk utilities to do a low level erase on the lion volume that will remove the recovery partition?
Can I go back to booting from Snow Leopard and erasing the Recovery partition with the drive partition that way? Will the Snow Leopard utility take out the Lion HD recovery partition?
I am used to erasing my drives and rebuilding my machine and I believe it is the right way to use my multiple drives in my workflow. Now that I've got this invisible recovery partition, can you help me remove it and create a bootable disc that includes disk utilities?

I assume the unix pdisk command will show you want is going on.
You may not have a big worry.  There have always been a lot of hidden partitions. Disk Utility under 10.4.11 reports this drive has three (my now report four )  partitions, when pdisk reports that there are 15.
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
Press return when done typing sudo pdisk -l
    -l include a lower case L
The sudo command will ask for your administration password. No characters will appear when typing your password. Press return when done typing. sudo stands for super user do.  It's just like root. Be careful.

My original problem is that I couldn't create the Repair Disc
I found out that the problem was with a file that was on the recovery partition

I reformatted the partition and recovered the backup to the reformatted partition
    It didn't work

If you do a factory restore using HP recovery discs it will put everything back including recovery partition. I don't know if any way to manually re-create the recovery partition.
NOTE: back up your files as Factory Restore wipes ALL data.
