How can I uninstall snow leopard

I bought and installed Snow Leopard, but now my Norton does not work, and i have read there is no solution to this. I would rather just go back to the previous OS.  I have Time capsule, but when Igo back to a desktop prior to the installation, , If I restore it, it does not replace the OS.  Is there a way to manually uninstall the Leopard OS and reinstall the old one?

Upgrade to Lion. Supported, runs well on most - drops support for Rosetta (PowerPC) which is one reason it does run smoothly.
If you can upgrade to Mountain there is more support for newer graphic cards.
I would avoid any pre-SL like plague. And, there is no security support there.
It is always good to list your hardware and have it added to your profile.
Avoids guess work.
Cloning helps and you can dual boot if you must, but a clean install of SL and all the updates on 2nd drive and then use Setup Assistantant if you want to stay with 10.6.8. Lion or Mountain are very inexpensive downloads form AppStore.
Also, upgrade of the OS over an older copy/version just carries along out of date old unsupported code drivers, apps, utilities that all must be upgraded or removed. Setup Assistant has made ease of migrating to a new OS cleanly much better and smoothly.

    You would need to erase/reformat your boot drive. Why do you want to uninstall SL? I find it very stable. If you haven't used the Combo Updater 10.6.8 (as your profile indicates) you may have some issues that were resolved with the final update.

  • How do I uninstall snow leopard? please help

    Hey everyone, I am having a lot of troubles with snow leopard and since its not really a BIG difference between leopard, i decided to go back to leopard, so ok.
    I got my 17 inch mac book pro, it came with leopard, and with the snow leopard installation cd, and i installed it, now, my question is, how do i uninstall snow leopard without leaving any trace??
    please help, its really urgent
    I want to go back to leopard

    To do the most in terms of leaving no trace, you will need to do an erase and install. Start from your Leopard DVD by holding down c when starting up. Next, when able, choose your language and stop. Then, using the menus at the top, select Disk Utility; check to see that your volume's partition is GUID; and make it GUID if necessary. Then, erase your drive. Next, quit Disk Utility and continue the install. After the install is complete, insert your Leopard applications disk and install the programs you want. Now, you are done except for restoring you data, apps, and settings using whatever media are available to you.
    As implied, you need to have a plan to get your data and apps back especially. In this regard, it may be less important for you to get your users and settings back.
    If you are not prepared backup-wise, then you can use your Leopard DVD, again by starting up to it, to do an archive and install. Since you want no trace of Snow Leopard, I would not choose the option of preserving user and network settings. After doing an the archive and install, your archives will be in the Previsous Systems folder. How can I install Snow Leopard on my 15" MacBook Pro without using its DVD drive?

    I'm assuming your dvd drive is broken? if you have a thumb drive large enough (8GB or better), you can use another computer to make a bootable image from the install dvd to the thumb drive. then you can install from the the thumb drive.

    Hi.
    You simply can't. Snow Leopard is compiled in Intel binary only.
    Good Luck.

    I have purchaded Snow Leopard, but I can installed it
    Pls can anyone help me
    Best regards and merry christmas

    Apple figures that having supported PowerPC code for the last 6 years is enough so they dropped it.
    Why should they have to support some that old forever? It doesn't make good business sense to support some that so few will use.
    If you must play those games, my suggestion is to get an older Mac that will support PowerPC. It is going to be a difficult task to get Snow Leopard to run on a new Mac.

    How do I uninstall snow leopard and re-install OSX leopard?

    Sorry to hear that, Snow Leopard runs as fast or faster than either Tiger and Leopard did on my Jan 2006 Early Intel iMac on 2GB of RAM?
    Before you blame Snow Leopard, run the Extended Apple Hardware Test and check the SMART status of your Hard Drive to make sure that you do not have another problem.

    If you have Leopard installed, you can't download anything to get to Snow Leopard.
    In order to do that you must have a Snow Leopard DVD.

    First, your Mac model must be able to run Leopard. Second, you would have to partition your hard drive to create a second volume then install Leopard on the new volume using a Leopard installer DVD.

  • How can I reinstall Snow Leopard?

    How can I reinstall Snow Leopard?

    Jan,
    You can use the Disk Utility "app" to partition your hard drive so that you can (clean) install Snow Leopard on the new partition. This leaves Mountain Lion intact on one partition. This worked great for me. I was becoming increasingly annoyed, seeing that Mountain Lion ***** due, as another poster said, to its "increasing iOSification".
    With Disk Utility you can name the new partition "Macintosh HD 2". Be sure to use the exact same format as the original (Macintosh HD) partition. You can access all your files/apps on the old (ML) partition from the new (SL) partition, and vice versa.
    However, know this:
    I still have NOT found a way to transfer any my OS X Mail folders from Mountain Lion BACK TO Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion's Mail gives you the false impression you can export your Mail folders to Snow Leopard's Mail, but you cannot. From what I've read here, the newest version of OS X Mail is not compatible with earlier versions. This is a HUGE problem.
    My short list (to date) of crappy Mountain Lion behavior; items marked with a double asterisk (**)represent the worst of Mountain Lion for me.
    ** No up/down arrows in scroll bar slider;
    Expose` not as easy to navigate as in Snow Leopard;
    Mail does not request passwords for either receive or send;
    No "Save Draft" icon in Mail compose window;
    "Save As" selection missing in most app menus;
    No separate Search window in Safari (workaround: use Firefox or Opera);
    ** Can't export Mail from Mountain Lion into Snow Leopard if downgrading;
    iWork 09 seems to have "circled the wagons" re compatibility with MS Office or LibreOffice (workaround: just use Libreoffice);
    I truly regret "upgrading" to Apple's "Vista".

  • How can I reinstall snow leopard over Lion OS

    Ever since I installed Lion OS, my Imac has been absolutely uncontrollable.  Programs opening upon start up that shouldn't open, lock ups, freezing system.  How can I uninstall Lion and reinstall my Snow Leopard?

    You have to quit, not just closing open documents, the programs when you shutdown or they will Resume, by default, when you startup.
    The feature can be disabled here by unchecking:

  • How do I uninstall Snow Leopard?

    Since I installed Snow Leopard (upgraded from Leopard), I have had problems accessing documents and having documents display correctly.  The software these are in are old versions (CS2 and Exel 2004).  I need these documents and want to go back to Leopard.  Do I simply install Leopard from the CD?  Will that override Snow Leopard?

    You would need to do an Erase and Install in order to "uninstall" Snow Leopard. However I think you should troubleshoot why your apps do not run or make sure they are up-to-date. Both are extremely old (pushing 10 years) and could probably use some updating. Snow Leopard is an extremely sound version of OS X so if you are having issues running some specific applicaitons I would recommend troubleshooting why those apps are having troubles.
    For example with MS Office, version 2011 has been available for almost 2 years! You will need to buy it but you can find it on Amazon for about $90. Regarding your Adobe Applications, there are also much more up-to-date versions.
    While upgrading can be some work, I have found through experience that not updating eventually becomes extremely painful. This is because at some point you will need to upgrade your computer and your old apps will not run due to simple incompatibility so it becomes very expensive to upgrade them all at one time.  It is wise to upgrade one at a time as finances allow.

  • How can I purchase snow leopard

    how do I purchase snow leopard?

    I wish that had been a mistype, but that is the lead time they gave me. (That's the time prior to shipping.) I even called back in hopes that I was wrong, and they said 4-5 weeks. I sure hope it comes sooner and that it is going to be a case of under promising and over-delivering. 5 days would be great!

  • How do I uninstall Snow Leopard Server, so that I can revert back to Snow Leopard?

    I was experimenting with the Snow Leopard Server DVD on my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard.  I started the installation process, expecting that it would not install on the Startup Disk, as I had not booted from the DVD.
    To my surprise it installed!
    How do I "uninstall" or revert back to Snow Leopard, without have to take such drastic steps that I would lose all of my Snow Leopard System folder contents (such as doing a wipe and starting over with a fresh Snow Leopard install)? Thank you.

    I assume by "back up your data" you mean a Time Machine backup?
    Preferably, yes.
    I have a BootCamp partition to run Windows; does Time Machine back that up, too?
    No, but it won't be affected unless something goes wrong. You still need to back it up, of course, just like all other data.

    I purchased a 2010 MacBook Pro on eBay and it was delivered with no operating system. It has disk utility recovery, but the choices listed don't apply. I don't have an time machine backup, nor can I restore Mavericks.  I bought a copy of Snow Leopard to install, but can't figure out how to do it.  Hoping someone out there has some suggestions.
