How can I update the iPhone Without it timeing out?

When I use iTunes to update my iPhone 4.3.2 it goes through the download process (usually 20 minutes or more), then tells me there was a timeout problem. What timedout? How can I fix it? Using a Sony VAIO w/6 GB memory, Windows 7 Ultimate, IE9, approx 5 Mbps connection via Clear.

I have a home setup with a wireless connection to a Belkin router. Only my computer has access to this router. I have download files of 6-10 GBytes. I downloaded Win 7Ultimate and IE9. Some of these downloads ran 45 minutes or more, but there was no timeout problem.
What can I do next? Why does Apple have update files that have such timeout issues. I couldn't download updates on 1 January and around 1 April that I had to go to Best Buy so they could download the updates for me.
This is an update for a telephone. Why are there such technological issues?

To update your phone requires using the latest version of iTunes, on your computer, as well as Internet access. The update to iOS 5.0 or higher is an erase/restore deal, so you not only have to make sure all of the content, currently on your phone, is on your computer and accessible, you need to update iTunes first, have Internet access, then update your phone. There is no way around this fact. You could go to an Apple store or use another computer, but you run the risk of losing all of your data it you do that.

How can I change the settings for being timed out (I don't want to be timed out ever)?

I am sorry but this isn't something that you can set. The system has timeouts built into the code.

  • How can I update my iphone without a computer or itunes?

I was at the luandromat using my laptop to sync my Iphone 3gs and there was a large power surge. It fried my laptop and my Iphone 3gs. Now I'm using my old Iphone 3g whcih is running software 3.1.3 and I want to know how or if I can update the software with out having access to itunes or even a functioning computer.

    "Really? "
Yes.  It has always been this way.  Itunes and a computer were listed as REQUIREMENTS on both the box the iphone came in and the website.
"If that's the case then I think I may just switch to the Droid network."
    Enjoy your Droid.

  • How can I update the BIOS without using a CD?

    Hello!
I have recently decided to upgrade my RAM from 2GB to 4GB. After installing, I booted up my computer to find that it would not recognize the new memory. After doing a bit of troubleshooting, I decided to try and update the BIOS, as the version was from 2010. I downloaded the BIOS update boot CD application from lenovo, burned a disc, and on reboot I found that the boot order did not have CD listed on it. Here's the catch: I don't have the supervisor password. This is a hand-me-down laptop, and I have tried to find the password to no avail. This is the current boot order: USB drive, Hard drive.
My question is, can I either create a BIOS update disc using a USB, or update the BIOS some other way?
I understand that it is impossible to recover the supervisor password without having it serviced (which I would rather not do, even if I have to send my RAM back to Crucial)
    My system specs:
    Thinkpad L512
    Bios version: 1.04
    Bios date: 2010-3-26
    Embeded Controller Version: 1.01
    Windows 7 32 bit
    Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to the forum!
    Two things here:
    a) If you run System Update, it should offer the latest BIOS for your machine as well. I've never done it on a passworded unit, so it might or might not work but might be worth a shot.
    b) I doubt that the ability of the system to recognize new RAM has anything to do with the BIOS. ThinkPads much older than yours will run 4-8GB RAM with an old BIOS, older than your machine to begin with.
    Good luck.
    Cheers,
    George

If you have an Exchange account on your iPad for which the admistrator has specified a limit on how long you can set the auto-lock, the only way to change it is to remove the Exchange account. Once you put the Exchange account back on, the restriction will be back in place. Apple has nothing to do with this.
Exchange admistrator often require that devices be passcode protected and that the device will autolock so they delete the "Never" setting.

  • IPhone software update errored. How can I fix my iPhone without having to do a restore?

I plugged in my iPhone 4 to do a sync this afternoon.  I got the message that there was a software update.  Sadly, I've updated to the crappy iOS7, so I chose to install the update (which I think is 7.0.2.)  The update was downloaded, and was loading to my iPhone.  I suddenly received an error that my iPhone couldn't update.  I think it had an error code of 411. My iTunes refreshed, and is now not showing that it recognized my phone.  Now the only thing I can get to show up on my screen is a graphic of the iTunes icon, and an arrow directing me to plug in my phone.  When I do this, a message appears that iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode and that I must restore this phone before it can be used with iTunes.  I don't want to perform a restore.  I will lose all my data.  So, why did this error?  How can I fix my iPhone without doing a restore?

I think it had an error code of 411....So, why did this error?
There is no such error code.  No one can tell you why without the correct code.

There is no way to get out of recovery mode without restoring.
You mean you actually didn't back up before updating, really?

I have tried resetting an iPhone 3 and I am unable to activate and sync it. How can I reset the device without using a computer?

    Hello anacc,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Connect your USB cable to your computer but not to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until step 3.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button down, connect the USB cable to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen. When this screen appears, you can release the Home button:
Note: If the image of a battery appears, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again. If you don't see the Connect to iTunes screen, try these steps 1 through 4 again.
iTunes should automatically open and display the following message:
"iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."Note: If iTunes not open after two minutes, please open iTunes yourself.
Use iTunes to restore the device.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

how can i reset my iphone without update to ios 7.0.6

You can wipe the device without updating:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings
I would be remiss not to mention that iOS 7.0.6 patches a security flaw.
If you choose not to update, your device will be at risk.

You cannot use someone else's apps without violating the license agreement. The apps are tied to the owner (via Apple ID). The right thing to do would be to update and start fresh.
