That's odd - if you open Disk Utility (Applications->Utilities) and select the disk(s), how are they formatted? If you're only going to be used with your Mac, they should be formatted as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".

Should you run into trouble.
Take the exernal drive appart. Take out the harddrive. Try reading the data via a usb adapter. Put a household finan on the hd.

How can I transfer apps from one iTunes library to another? My daughter has an iTouch, and I was managing it through my library. I have created an iTunes account for her, with a new iTouch, and would like to move the apps over. I tried to sync the old iTouch to the new library and it said it was already set up to sync with a different library. What is the best way to do this?

You can transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
To make the new computer the syncing computer you have to:
- Transfer iTunes purchases lIke I described above
- Make a backup of the iPod on that computer by connecting the iPod and then right-clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up.
- Restore the iPOd from that backup
She will have to continue to use your iTunes ID to update the apps prchased with your account. To use her account she will have to log into the computer with her account (iTunes>Store) and change the sign in on the iPod by going to Settings>Store.

I would like to move files from one external hard drive to another exter hard drive. I can't seem to make a file on the drive I want to copy files to. I'm new to the apple world, normally I would be able to do that easily with a PC. Any help would be appreciated.

Should you find that reformatting a HDD is required, all user data will be erased in the formatting process.

How can I transfer files from one user to another user?

I have a Macbook Air with 10.9.5.
I have two admin users. I want to transfer all the files from User A to User B's profile so that I can get rid of User A and just use User B from now on. So far I can access the files if I change sharing permissions but the files are not under the root User B's folder still.   Any ideas on how to do this? I also have greyed out folders when I created User B in the root directory.
Root folder /UserA/ includes all the usual folder links like desktop, documents, etc, including some created one for example "myoldphotos".   When i created UserB/ it has all the desktop, documents, etc folders (but with nothing in them since it's new) but also the myoldphotos folder, except it's greyed out and I can't do anything with it at all or open it or anything. it's just there?

Also if anyone has any ideas on the greyed out folders I would be thankful. For example I moved the 'myoldphotos' folder from users/UserA to users/Shared then from there to users/UserB and it worked. HOWEVER, the greyed out mysterious folder is still there and i can't do anything about it. It also affected my new copied folder, changing the name from myoldphotos to "myoldphotos 2" like as if there IS a folder there with the same name already.   I can't click on the greyed out folder to open it or anything.

I haven't tried this, but I believe what you could do is
append
requestHeaders to the urlrequest object that you pass into
the file.upload()
method. The requestHeaders is an array of name/value pairs
that would be
included with your post. At least in theory, I believe that
shoudl work.

I have video and photo files on one hard drive. I'd like to keep that one intact but also copy all the files to a second external hard drive. When I try to do so, I can't figure out how to open both hard drives at once. (If I open one, it closes the other window.)

Open a finder window and open up one harddrive. Then go to file>new finder window. This way you can have two finders up and select a different harddrive in each one. Then just copy and paste the files.

I have a Powerbook which I wiped and reinstalled Leopard, updated and installed Safari 4. I would like to copy literally everything from my second G4 Powerbook with Leopard and Safari 4 to the new one, so that I have a clone with all emails, pictures, programs, tunes, etc. How can I do this? I use Superduper to create a bootable clone of my macpro + that works fine although it is on an external. SuperDuper's manual states you can create a clone on another computer using firewire target disk mode - but I have never tried this personally. Both macs would have to have the same type of processor - you cannot create a clone of an intel mac and run it on a power pc mac. Carbon Copy cloner, a similar, free & ewually praised program may also be able to do this but I haven't used this - maybe another user who uses that program can advise?

In this case your best bet would be to have the other people just provide content without the template and then you can just plug content in rather than doing a select all.
You can open up both your site and their site at the same time in Muse to help the copying process.

I can't drag files from one shared library to another

My computers recognize and display all shared libraries, and the files play on each computer, but files cannot be copied from one to another. Is there a solution to this?

iTunes has two kinds of sharing.
Regular sharing allows listening, but does not allow copying. It can be used with anybody on the same network.
The one you want is called Home Sharing. It does allow copying, It only works with other computers authorized to the same iTunes account. To set it up, see this document: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819
