How can i use a song as a ringtone from a cd i have loaded on my iphone 4s
The weird thing is, when u make your own ringtones, they sound terrible when set as a ringtone (really tiny and generally awful), but when u set them as a text tone or any other alert they sound great (like they do when u play them through the music app).
Is this just a bug with iOS5 or have previous models also done this?

I followed all the instructions that have been posted in this community but it turns out that when my song is changed to .m4r and I delete it from the library and then play it, it doesn´t appear in the tones.
I tryed deleting it but then when I go where it was originaly saved it doesn´t appear. when I make a double click to play it, it is saved under music in the itunes not under tones.
I havne´t been able to make the song to be saved in the tones list from itunes

I came across a GREAT program: iRinger.net. It's a free download and really easy (and Fun) to use!
I recommend watching the Instructional Video on the homepage that shows you exactly how to use it. Basically, you upload a song to the program, edit any portion of it that you like to a 40 second or less tone, then export it to iTunes. When you sync your phone w/ iTunes, it gets saved along with the rest of your ringtones. I had a blast last night creating about a dozen or so!

selected from my iphone "Buy more ringtones"and it has dowloaded as a music file and is now in itunes on my laptop and in music on my iphone. How do i get it to be a ring tone which is what should have happened in the first place. Any ideas on how to fix this? As in itunes I cannot see how to a) change it to a ring or b) drag across to the right area...

You can do a search at the bottom of the Special Character palette. Double click on the greek capital letter sigma. You will get a lot of sigmas. -
