Why do you need to verify it? Have you received an email telling you to click a link to do so? - if so it's very possible that it's a scam designed to trick you into entering your credit card details. If you have received such an email don't follow any links in it. If it's not addressed to you by name it's unlikely to be from Apple.
You could copy and paste the email into a post here so that we can have a look at it - remove your own email address when you do this.
If there is some other reason you want to verify the ID please give more details.

I am having an absolute nightmare of a time with Apple. A friend gifted me with a song on iTunes. I do not have iTunes and am not a Mac user. I have found that the computers always add unnecessary steps and procedures and make even simple things far more complicated than needs be, as evidenced further here.

Then, when I tried to redeem the song, an error message popped up that said "this iTunes ID hasn't been used in the store" and to review my account, upon which clicking on it simply took me to signing in again and not going anywhere. To determine how to proceed to fix this error message, all the answers in Google were connected to Apple support communities. So then, I had to create a separate login for that. Now that I have, I'm seeing that I am being forced to add a credit card to my iTunes to listen to the download my friend sent me. Forget this. It's been two hours of this nonsense and I still haven't listened to the song. At this point I don't care at all about the song, all joy has already been removed from this gift with nothing but frustration. What a completely unnecessary waste of the few non-work hours I actually have in the evening. If anyone knows how I can just listen to the darn song to honor my friend's generosity and to not add my credit card and just get on with my life, I would greatly appreciate it.

P.S. Do you know if the person who has an account and has sent a song as a gift can tell if it was redeemed or not? I just want this to be over.

You'll have to have a creidy card/ debit card on file still. The card will not be charged unless you're make a puchace. Free apps don't count as a purchase. They will show up as a 0.00 charge. Apple will not charge your card unless it's a purchace that actually costs money

Unfortunately, this is a problem that is driven by the DRM Dictatorship. Despite the proliferation of mobile devices and the fact that there are many of us who do a lot of international travel, content providers don't want you to have access to their products outside of your homeland. The Balkanized mentality of the DRM Dictatorship is way out of touch with the modern world.
At least Apple, to its credit, allows you to use your accounts outside of your homeland as long as you have the proper credentials for them. Most other services use the more Draconian geolocation filtering which does require you to be physically present in your homeland. For the most part, you are not allowed to leave home if you want access to your favorite entertainment!
