How can I view multiple playlists in iTunes?

In the old version of iTunes I could double-click and that would open the playlist in a new window so that it could be compared to another playlist etc. Is there a way to do this in the new version of iTunes?

while the discussion in the link (here in this reply) does not tell us how to open a new window - it does tell us how to view any particular playlist and the entire library list at the same time in a split-window view - but there still does not appear to be a way to open two playlists at the same time.?

How can I view duplicate songs in iTunes 11?

If needed press ctrl-b to reveal the menu bar. Use Shift-View > Show Exact Duplicates to reveal the duplicates. Keep one of each repeated group of files and don't send to the recycle bin unless you are sure that there are multiple files on the disc as opposed to multiple entries to the same file.
There is also my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. This can preserve ratings, play counts, playlist membership, etc. which are lost in a manual clean up. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background on deduping and the script.

  • How can I have multiple users on iTunes (in order to connect to a shared office iPad)?

How can I have multiple users on iTunes (in order to connect to a shared office iPad)? Currently each of us has our own iTunes account, so I've made an "all office" Apple ID. However, I can't seem to get two different accounts (my personal and the office) to work on my machine. Even when I login as "the office", my personal library is still showing. Additionally, when I try to setup with a first-time use in iTunes, I get an error that I don't meet the minimum age requirement - no matter what birthdate I enter!

The library exists regardless of which user is logged in.
The only way around that is to create different user accounts on the computer.
There is no way to have 20 unique iTunes users access a shared iTunes under a single login on the computer.

How can I have multiple iphones on itunes without them sharing contact info

If contacts on each iPhone are being synced direct with the same supported address book app on the computer via the iTunes sync process, deselect Sync Contacts under the Info tab for the iPhones that you don't want synced with the same address book followed by a sync.
If each iPhone is sharing the same Apple iCloud account with Contacts enabled for over the air syncing, each iPhone needs its own iCloud account.

  • TA47831 How can I import a playlist to iTunes?

An old article (http://support.apple.com/kb/TA47831) explained how to export an iTunes playlist to an .m3u file and reimport it.  This functionality no longer works with the newer version of iTunes (I'm running iTunes 10.6 on Windows 7).  This is presumably why the article has been retired and is no longer supported by Apple.
If I export a playlist, change its name, then reimport the result is an empty playlist.  Here is an example of one of the lines from the .m3u file:
    #EXTINF:196,My Happiness - Ella Fitzgerald
    \\NEF\music\Ella Fitzgerald - 50 Classic Hits (disc 2)\Ella Fitzgerald - My Happiness.mp3
As you can see my file is an mp3 on a remote server ("nef") and works perfectly well in the "Music" section of iTunes.
What I really want to do is to import some playlists that have been generated elsewhere (for example using a script to identify all the US hits of the 1980s with the word "power" somewhere in the lyrics).  I figured the easiest way to do that would be to work out what format of playlist iTunes would be able to import and generate one of those, I was somewhat surprised to discover that iTunes can't even import a playlist it has just exported.

    Hi Steve,
I was wondering this myself and a quick Google found your post here along with an Apple support article published three weeks ago. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH1744?viewlocale=en_US
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I shuffle a playlist in itunes 11

    Hey,
how can I shuffle a playlist in itunes 11 (really shuffle the songs in order to burn them on a cd - not to listen to them through the player).
    Thanks!

So far I have not found a way to shuffle pre-burn either...only to play.
It is another one of those lovely user-friendly features that doesn't seem to exist in iTunes 11...which seems to have been an update which was a step back for many loyal iTunes users.  I sure wish I can use the previous, more intelligently designed version.

  • How can I view my friend's itunes library?

Is there any way that my friend and I could browse each other's itunes music libraries?  It would be ideal to be able to click and sample songs as well.  We don't want to share the actual music files.  This is strictly to expose one another to each other's music, and hopefully broaden our scope.  Any music we're interested in, we would purchase from the itunes store (or elsewhere).
Is there any way to do this?  I read an Apple support article (link below) explaining how to share itunes playlists.  It even had the ability to sample songs.  This would have worked out pretty well, except I can't find the option in the current itunes(11.0.5).  Was this feature taken off?
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/music/itunes.html#playlists-shareplaylists
I read there was a program called 'Mojo' that did exactly what I'm looking for, except that it went an (illegal) step further and allowed friends to download each other's music.  Which is probably why it no longer exists...
    Any help would be appreciated.

Sharing playlists still works - Preferences/Sharing - but only if the computers are on the same network, so you and your friend would need to be in each other's homes to be able to share playlist through iTunes. Otherwise, you can export your playlist and your friend can either read it - he'll need an XML viewer - or import it into his iTunes:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1156612/itunes_playlist_share.html
There was a playlist sharing service:
    http://www.getplaylists.com
but it seems to be dead now.
    Regards.

  • How can I shuffle a playlist in iTunes for an iPod so my stereo play a large playlist in a seemingly random order

I have an iPod classic that I plug into my car stereo.  My car stereo can play playlists, or if just plug it in, it will play every song in alphabetical order.  Once plugged in, I cannot use the iPod to "shuffle".  I require a pre-shuffled playlist.  I have done this before in iTunes 11 will special instructions, but I've since misplaced those instructions.  I know how to build a large playlist of all of my songs.  Now, how do I shuffle that list of, say, 20,000 songs, and save to a new shuffled playlist?  Don't say it can't be done, because I've done it.  I know Apple removed the ability to do this quickly and easily, because obviously Apple doesn't really take their customers wants and needs into account.  Otherwise, they would see the thousands of complaints after they removed that feature.
So, is there anyone here that can help me?   I don't really need to hear that it's not supported or that it used to work.  If you know how to shuffle a playlist and save it in that shuffled state, please post the steps for doing this in Windows iTunes 11.
    Thank you in advance,
    Bluemookie

Just go to Settings, Shuffle, then turn it to Songs. The songs will stay in the same order in the playlist, but they'll switch it up.

  • How can I delete multiple playlists at one time?

For some reason I have hundreds of random playlists? How can I delete them all at once, is it possible?

Here are two ways I would try:
You can hold down your shift key while selecting playlists. This allows you to select multiple items. However, it does not allow you to skip over a playlist. All contiguous lists will be selected using this method. Once you have all the playlists selected, right click on the selection and choose delete.
If method one won't work because you want to pick and choose lists to delete, I'd make a folder and pull all of the lists I don't want into this folder. Then you can delete the whole folder. Once you have all of the playlists you no longer want in the folder, just right click on the folder and choose delete.
