How can I view where all my HD space is going?

Hi,
I'm on a Imac Intel 10.4.9 and would like to be able to see where al of HD space is going. I am a photographer and shoot large RAW files and know that the folder where I sort these images is about 60 gigs. The is the most HD space intensive folder/data I have. The HD is 250 gigs and I've only got 15 gigs left. I thought there was a way to do a view of all main folders within the hard drive and list them by their size? It seems like there should be an easy way to do this. The other and larger issue is how and why is mystery HD space being taken up in the first place? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

In the Finder get the View Option for a folder, then select calculate all. It will show you the total space occupied by each subfolder. You can also click on the "size" bar at the top of hte Finder window to get it to sort by size (click a second time and it will reverse the sort direction).
You may find some of the space is used in applications, etc., so you can do the same thing for the drive view option.
There are also programs that will do this for all folders (e.g., Folderlister, WhatSize).

Which version of photoshop are you using?
After you define a custom pattern it should be added to the bottom of whatever patterns are already loaded.
For example, if you define a custom pattern and then go to Edit>Fill>Pattern, the newly defined pattern should have been added to the existing loaded patterns.

If you want to see duplicate records in a table and how many you have you can do something like this:
Select all of the columns in the table and look for those having more than one row. If you're more concerned
about duplicate keys than each column individual column being the same just select the key columns.
select c1, c2, c3,..., count(*)
from table
group by c1, c2, c3...
having count(*)>1
order by c1, c2, c3...
If you eventually want to get rid of the duplicates you can issue:
delete from table t1
where rowid not in
(select max(rowid)
from table t2
where t1.c1 = t2.c1
and t1.c2 = t2.c2...)
Where c1, c2, c3... match your column list from the select statement above.

Yes, create a smart album or a search with a "Date" rule or a Calendar rule.
For example: New > Smart Album
Add Rule: Date
Capture year is 2010.
or: Add Rule: Calendar
and click-step the year back to 2010:
In the Calendar it is a bit cumbersom to select a whole year, because it will only show 3 month at once. Select the first day and then scroll to to the end oft the year.

If you want to see what is in a file that is backed up by time machine then you have to restore the entire file. Having said that I have had good experience with Time Machine and individual files... if the file is there then all of it's components are almost for sure there. A way to get around this in Aperture would be to use referenced images. The images then still exist as individual files and can be backed up and restored individually. You would have to do so on a file by file basis though and your album information would still only be saved within the Aperture library.

No. You do not want to be using terminal for viewing files. Terminal is a command line interface and best not to be messed with by the uninitiated.
There is some glitch or problem or bug you are experiencing, If clicking the Downloads folder opens Terminal.
You can try deleting the downloads folder off the Dock and drag a new downloads folder from your user home folder, back to the right side of the Dock. The right side Dock icons are simply alias pointing to the parent folder.
If that does not work My best advise would be to simply try re-installing the OS X on top of your existing OS X, I suspect this will sort the problem.

It should all be on your phone. Just open the apps that you are syncing with iCloud (mail, contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, etc.). Anything you change there will also change it in iCloud. Your photo stream photos are in your my photo stream album inside the photos app on your phone.
You can also view and edit some of this by going to on icloud.com from your your computer.
