How can i zoom the macbook pro retina camera?

system preferences has no camera or video config and FaceTime preferences are dimmed for the new retina... I want to create a video conf call in a conf room and need to zoom out. nothing I can find on the apple site discusses this... thanks if you can help!
p.s. tried using a 2-3 year old logitech cam thinking that the options to zoom i see on a PC might be available on the mac, but the camera is not recognized by the Retina.

You can enter the serial number in the appropriate field on a web site such as this and it will tell you what model it is:

• Updating to Mavericks - can I download the MacBook Pro retina 10.9.1 version?

Hi,
I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro with retina display.
I saw that there's a specific version of Mavericks for my computer:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1712
My question: it's called an UPGRADE.
So is this link only for those who are already running Mavericks, and are just upgrading from 10.9.0 to 10.9.1?
Or can this link be used to move from 10.8.5 to 10.9.1?
I read that I can't download from the App Store with this computer.
PS: Do you think it's a good idea to run Disc Warrior on the old Mountain Lion install before upgrading, or would this be a useless task?
Thanks!

That link is only for users who are already using OS X Mavericks.
All Late 2013 MacBooks Pro with Retina display come with OS X Mavericks (OS X Mountain Lion is not supported), so if you are using OS X Mountain Lion, you have got a Mid 2012 or Early 2013 MacBook Pro. As you have not got a Late 2013 MacBook Pro, you do not need the update you listed.

(the terms "update" and "upgrade" seem to mean different things to different people - is moving from 10.8.6 to 10.9.1 an upgrade or an update or is it both the same?)
It's true. You cannot download OS X Mavericks from the Mac App Store on a Late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display because the available version is not compatible. However, if you are using Mountain Lion, you have not got a Late 2013 MacBook Pro.
Then, note that OS X 10.8.6 does not exist. The process to move from OS X Mountain Lion to Mavericks is an upgrade, because it's a new operating system. An update refers to a bug fix release or small features release, for example.
You do not need to run Disk Warrior before upgrading. Instead, you can verify that your hard drive is OK with Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities). Also, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com

• How can I add the macbook pro to my itunes account.

Open iTunes...
If you're using iTunes 11 click on the box icon in the top-left corner to see the " Show Menu Bar "
and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.
See Here for full details...

• HT5624 How can I track the MACbook Pro that just used my apple ID to log into iCloud? (I just got an email stating that someone just used it?)

Here is the email:
Your Apple ID ([email protected]) was used to sign in to iCloud on a MacBook Pro 13". I had a MacBook Pro stolen in January and I'm wondering if someone was using that stolen computer to login??
Anyway to track the computer trying to log in using my other Apple ID?

If you activated the Find My iPhone service (in System preferences>icloud), then you can try to track it. Using another computer's browser, log into icloud.com and look at the Find My iPhone page. On a device, invoke the Find My iPhone app (get it for free at the itunes app store) and log into the icloud account. Note: The Find My iPhone **app** does not turn on the service, you can only do that through Settings>icloud.
If the mac is listed as "offline", then you can't track it.

• How can I use the MacBook Pro webcam with Windows XP apps under Parallel?

Thank you in advance for your help with this matter.
I have a MacBook Pro and I have just installed Parallel with Windows XP. I would like to use the webcam that comes with the laptop for applications that run under Windows XP (ex.: PalTalk).
The application doesn't seen to recognize the camera. Do I have to load the drivers for this camera in XP? If so where can I find them and what is the process?
Thank you again,
Enrico

You probably need to load the Boot Camp drivers that are on the Leopard DVD. Whether it works or not I can't say, but you may want to post your question on the Parallels forums, since it's not an Apple product, and if anyone has gotten it to work you'll find them over there.

Not sure what you mean by reset your MacBook. I would begin with Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C"key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu(Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything butVerified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports diskis repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse a utility like TechTool Pro or DiskWarrior
Please do post back with further questions or comments.

• How can i downgrade my macbook pro retina 10.8.3 to 10.8.2

got a new macbook and it came with 10.8.3 on it and i cant restore fromt time machine because of the app problem 10.8.3 has think downgrading to 10.8.2 will help?

I'm still not understanding what's happening. Which applications are not compatible, and how do you know they're incompatible? If they're truly incompatible with 10.8.3, it's very unlikely that they will be compatible with 10.8.2. If they are PowerPC apps, for example, they will not be compatible with any system from 10.7 onward.
Also, note that it's probably not a good idea to try to restore applications from Time Machine, because some of them will not be installed properly if you do that. You will need to reinstall them just as you did the first time you installed them.

• How did apple make the macbook pro retina screen less reflective

Heya
I lvoe my new late 2013 haswell retina 13 inch pro, comign from my old non retina pro I love how the screen is less reflective in sunlight etc..
I was just interested to see if anyone knows how apple mangaed to do this, technology wise??
Special coatings or reducing the spaca between display and the glass??
Thanks
interested to hear your ideas or actual knowledge.

This is from the "How to Clean Apple Products Page" on Apple.com i found.
Displays
Disconnect the display from power, from its connection to a computer, and from any external devices. Next use the cloth that came with your display or another soft, dry cloth to wipe dust from the screen. If additional cleaning of the display panel or case is required use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings. Don't use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean the display.
Warning: Don't clean the screen with a cleaner containing alcohol or acetone. Use a cleaner intended for use with a screen or display. Never spray cleaner directly on the screen. It may drip inside the display and cause damage.

• HT3986 I got a macbook pro Retina and I installed a windows 7. The problem is I can't find drivers for the Macbook pro retina hardware which work for windows 7

I got a macbook pro retina and I installed windows 7. How can I get the windows 7 drivers for the Macbook Pro Retina?

Read the Boot Camp Instructions, you have to download the drivers using Boot Camp Assistant
If you missed that I suggest that you read the instructions again.

• How can I reboot my macbook pro to how i first got it if i don't have the cd

How can I reboot my Macbook Pro to how it was when I first got it if I don't have the cd

I had to do this the othe day when I got my mew retina and set it up and then tried to transfer data from my old mac instead of using migration and made a real mess of it. And I wanted to start all over again, so I called apple help and they said this:
Basically what you do is wipe the hard disc clean my reformatting - thats a scary bit
then reboot holding alt down and you get an option screen
you choose intalll Lion and it comes in via wifi and takes 2 hours or so , and then its just like an out of the box computer.
Best look for through some threads to double check the method, but thats basically what I did and it was fine.
Obviously cos the retina doesnt have a dvd drive, it had to be the only way anyway.

• Can't get my 30" Apple LCD at full res with the MacBook Pro Retina

Hey
I've been through a lot of posts and I can't seem to find a solution. I have a 30" Apple LCD monitor but the highest resolution I can get out of it through the MacBook Pro Retina is 1280 x 800. Any suggestions? I have tried holding down option while clicking the scale radio button, no luck.

iPhoto updates through 'software update', not the App Store.

Well there are two or three causes of eyestrain with displays different people seem to have.
1: Small type/UI elements
2: Glossy screens
3: Flicker rate
1:
The higher pixel rate combined with the display set at the higher resolution is going to cause UI and type to be smaller and harder to see. In fact it's advised to set OS X to a lower resolouton so it upscales better to match the pixel of the higher display.
Reports coming in say watching HD 1920 x 1080 trailers on the anti-glare 17" is best as the pixel content matches the display almost fullscreen, where on the MBP-R it's upscaled and thus looks blurry.
HD content makers are NOT going to change all their video cameras to support 2880 x 1800 full screen, so in order to get a clearer image playing HD 1080 content, one will have to do so in a smaller window.
2:
The new MBP-R dispalys are 75% less glossy, but not 100% less glossy like the anti-glare models so this can still cause some people problems. This can be lowered to under 1%, however I'm suspecting to do so would be considered giving up a military advantage to China where Apple gets it products made.
3:
I don't know about the flicker rate if it's better or not on the MBP-R's than the previous screens.
