Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    1. AppZapper 2.0.1
    2. AppDelete 3.2.6
    3. Automaton 1.50
    4. Hazel
    5. AppCleaner 2.1.0
    6. CleanApp
    7. iTrash 1.8.2
    8. Amnesia
    9. Uninstaller 1.15.1
  10. Spring Cleaning 11.0.1

How do I get rid of the "Downloads" button on my bookmarks toolbar? Somehow it just appeared and I can't get rid of it.

Firefox 20 changed from the old Download Manager to a new Download Panel. You can find a complete write-up here: [[Find and manage downloaded files]].
I suggest keeping that arrow around since it provides handy notifications. You can use the Customize feature to drag it down to the add-on bar where it won't take up as much space. To start customizing:
    * right-click a blank area of the tab bar > Customize
    * tap the Alt key > View menu > Toolbars > Customize
If you really don't need it, just drag it to the Customize dialog. You can always come back for it later if you like.

i have two iphones , i lost one  and entered to find my iphone and as mistake i block both and delate all the data of both. how can i get it on, im trying to restore it , but its not working ...

    Hi Roger
    Thank you for your reply.
    My original feed is: http://casa-egypt.com/feed/
However, because I modified the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroadcast and nothing changed, I redirected it to another feed and then I deleted this feed.
Is there any way to change the feed in itunes? The only feed I have now is  http://feeds.feedburner.com/CasaEgyptStation
I tried to restore the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroadcast but feedburner refused.
I know that I missed things up but I still have hope in working things out.
    Thanks is advance.

  • A box with a blue outline appeared in my bookmark drop-down menu. I can't get rid of it, and it obstructs the view of the bookmarks as I scroll up or down. Help!

I was trying to bookmark a page, using the "Choose" menu in the bookmarks. I must have touched a key by accident, and a box with a blue outline & the name of one of my folders appeared in my bookmark drop-down menu. At first the box contained the folder name, then I was trying to delete the box, and erase the name, thinking it might get rid of the box, but it didn't. I can't get rid of this box! It obstructs the view of what is underneath. It stays in the same position as I scroll up & down in the drop-down menu, and it hides what is underneath. Please help me get rid of this box. It is driving me crazy! Thanks!

  • How can I get rid of tab groups (not a button, but the feature itself)? Hate it. Thank you.

I would like to have just tabs without groups, visible all at once, as we had it in previous firefox versions. I don't see any instructions/options. Please help.

To uninstall Ask Toolbar program from your computer, click the Start button, click on Control Panel, the select Uninstall a program. Search and uninstall Ask Toolbar Updater and Ask Toolbar from your computer.
Next you want to uninstall Ask from Firefox:
    * At the top of the Firefox window, click the orange Firefox button, then select Add-ons.
    * Select the Extensions tab, then remove Ask Toolbar and any other unknown extensions from Mozilla Firefox.
    * To reset your search engine and homepage to their default, you can use the SearchReset extension. This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
You can also use [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ ADWCleaner] to get rid of Ask's registry keys.

  • Win 8.1. Get ads that I can't get rid of when trying to go to another site.

Win 8.1. When I try to go to a site, keep getting ads and warnings that I need to update programs, can't delete them. How do I keep these from coming up?

You may have an unwanted extension that is displaying those ads. Try this:
Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable or remove.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
If the Remove button is not available, then usually that extension was installed externally and needs to be removed through the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. Clicking the "Installed on" column heading will group the items by date so you can spot items that snuck in as part of a bundle.
To mop up invasive software, you also can use the tools listed in this support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]
Any luck? If you identify the culprit, please name names.

  • I hear very soft audio (advertising) in the background - how can I get rid of it? Cannot tel where it is coming from.

These are commercials that I get very softly in the background - I have checked every tab for hidden ads, cannot find where this is coming from. What gives?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

The question mark means the computer cannot find a bootable volumes so can;t do anything, That, combined with annoying sounds, strongly suggests a failed hard drive.
You can ask a "genius" at an Apple Rtail Store to test it but I'm pretty sure the drive is kaput. I'm hoping you had your data backed up.

  • About:home comes up on my browser - how do I get rid of this? I cannot find the place to look for Internet Options so I can change my homepage - where is this on the new firefox? Thank you

I have a new computer - it has windows 7 and I have your latest mozilla firefox running. about:home is the opening URL and I know this is not good. But when I looked for the tab to find Internet Options(like I had on my last computer) I can't find it anywhere! I used to use that to change my homepage - that got rid of the about:home before. So now, what should I do? Where is the Internet Options tab? I did try to use the control panel to switch my homepage, but it only switched my Internet Explorer browser homepage, even though it is not my default browser. Thank you.

  • How do I get rid of a flashing Groupon ad that appears the moment I begin to use Firefox?

It's in color and constantly moving within its' frame. The ad is dead centered on the screen. Once I continue on to another site from Firefox the ad is gone. It's specific to Firefox. It's not logical that you've done this to torment your users. You're a non-profit. I will have to, very reluctantly, remove Firefox from my computer, though, regardless. How did Groupon worm its way onto my screen? The coincidence is that several days ago I unsubscribed from receiving Groupon's offers/ads. Could this be revenge? There's a meanness apparent here. Thank you for your attention and quick resolution. Allen R. Piper
