How can my web developers get around Firefox remembering a password for my site that needs to be secure?

I'm developing a site that needs to be secure. At the moment on firefox it is remembering a users password and this is very unsecure. I know the user can turn this off but that is not good enough and does not guarantee security of information. I have to get my developers to make it so Firefox cannot remember the password. How do they do it? (They have already added some code which they said would stop major browsers from being able to remember passwords but this didn't work with Firefox). They are probably too proud to go onb a forum and ask for an answer but I'm not!

This forum focuses on end-user support. You can find more web development help on the [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=25 mozillaZine Web Development board]. Separate forum, separate registration. Please note the tips in the Sticky Post at the top of the forum before posting.
That said... Firefox honors the setting autocomplete="off" in the form tag. When this attribute is set, users should not be prompted to save the username/password, and it should not be filled automatically. (Is this what wasn't working??)
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_Turn_Off_Form_Autocompletion
Knowledgeable users can bypass this setting by running a script to strip this attribute. I doubt that very many users would do that, but if people have to log in very frequently, it is more likely to happen. Users also may use add-ons that manage passwords, and those add-ons might not honor the autcomplete="off" setting. I haven't used any such add-ons, so I don't know the situation there.
I'm sure this isn't completely satisfactory but hopefully it helps to some extent.

ever since the updates 2 days ago, my computer has been freezing unexpectedly when I'm asked if firefox should remember my password for a site. I use vista basic and firefox 3.6.22.

  • How can I get Firefox to remember a password for a site I originally told it not to? The site is not found in the exceptions area of passwords either.

I initially said for Firefox to NOT remember a password for COZI.com, my online calendar site. Now I would like it to, but cannot find a place to make that happen. I checked under TOOLS/OPTIONS/SECURITY/PASSWORDS. The site is not listed under exceptions either. Is there a way to make this happen?

I do not see that form in the page source, so it looks that it the login form gets created via JavaScript and the Firefox Password Manager doesn't work in such cases. Form fill may store the name.

  • How can I get Keychain to suggest a password for an account that already has a password

I made up password for a site and now I want Keychain to generate one. How do I do this?

    Open Keychain Access.
Select the desired item in the list,
Double click the item or use 'File > Get info'.
Click the checkbox to reveal the current password & enter your keychain password to view it.
Now click the 'key' icon next to the password field.
The 'password assistant' window appears, use that to to generate a password, when you are happy with it click the 'Save changes' button in the 'info' window for that item.

  • How can I set up my iPad to Remember my password in App Store for a determined period of time.. Ex: 2 minutes, for updates and purchasing?

Whenever I make purchases on my iPad in the App Store, it asks me for my Apple ID password. I'm fine with this when its a one off purchase, but when I have to make multiple purchases continuously it can be really annoying.
How wow can I get the App Store to remember my password for a short period of time (2-3 minutes) so I don't have to type it in with every purchase? I know it can be done as the other iPad in the house is set up this way, I just can seem to find how or where to change these settings...

There is Settings > General > Restrictions > Require Password which you can set to '15 minutes' - the only other option for the setting is 'Immediately', you won't be able to have it as 2 or 3 minutes.

  • Can you un-do firefox remembering your password for a specific website?

    # In the Tools menu select Options to open the options window
    # Go to the Security panel
    # Click on the "Saved Passwords" button to open the password manager
    # Click on the site in the list of sites that you want to remove so that the line is selected, then click the Remove button

  • How do I save my user name a password for a site that doesn't automatically ask me if I wish to?

Normally Firefox will ask if I wish to save the user name and password for the site I've just logged into. This time it did not ask me this. Is there somewhere that I can add this information so I don't have to remember it for when I come back in a year from now and am trying to log on again? I went to tools>internet options>security>passwords but nothing there seemed relevant.

Some sites block passwords from being saved. For more details and how to bypass this see http://kb.mozillazine.org/User_name_and_password_not_remembered

  • How can I stop from getting the "Firefox is already running" error message when trying to open links and FF has already been opened through a symbolic link?

I use symbolic links and program shortcuts as a way to easily open different Firefox profiles ie. one for casual/personal use and another for work. This works well, but I get the "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" error message if I try to open external links with FF as my default browser. FF is actually open and running fine, but I guess it doesn't acknowledge this fact because of how I'm originally starting the process.
I wasn't able to add the symbolically linked executables to the default program pane. Is there a way to bypass this error or other way to fix this?
The solution to the question linked below is what I'm using to open the different FF profiles.

hello, this is probably happening when you run the default profile with the -no-remote switch.

  • How can I make Firefox remember new passwords for old accounts?

I have recently moved to a new notebook computer. I used the "Password Exporter" add-on to import my passwords from my old machine.
Now, when I reach a Web page that I'd saved the user id and password for, it no longer appears in the fields and I have to start typing some of it, before Firefox offers it again.
Also, if a password has changed, when I enter the new one, Firefox won't offer to update that saved account with the new password - so I'm stuck with my old 'list' of accounts and their original passwords.
How can I fix these problems?

    * Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
    * Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

  • Bookmarks toolbar changed from the right side of the drop-down menu to the left. How can I change it back on Firefox 4.0.1 for Mac?

I just updated to Firefox 4.0.1. Some changes I don't like, especially that the Bookmarks toolbar opens to the left of the drop-down menu instead of the right. How can I change it?

You may have bookmarks that have long title. Firefox 4 shows the full text of the bookmark name, so if it doesn't fit with opening to the right side the Firefox will open to the left side. You can scroll through the list and make the bookmarks with a long name shorter.

  • How can I stop Firefox from remembering a password for a site, so anyone on a shared computer can't use it?

Someone who used our home computer must have clicked "Do you want Firefox to remember this password?" when using one of my shopping sites. Tried changing the password, but it was no good.

  • How can I make a photo from two merged projects available for a book that I started using one project ? They merge but the book only allows me to access the original project photos even though the merged photos can be seen in the project ?

I have successfully merged two projects in order to add new photos for my book.  The library available to the book which has 26 completed pages accesses only the original project library.  Has anyone else had this problem ?  It is frustrating to see the photos I want in the merged project file, but to have only the original photos when I started the book available in the book library.

That will work, but it is the long way 'round.
As Frank noted, Book Albums are just specialized Albums.  Albums can show any Image in your Library, regardless of where the Album is located on the Library Inspector, and regardless of which Project contains the Image.  You can put your Albums anywhere (in a Folder called "Books" for example).  You can put Images from anywhere in your Library in any Album.
    The easy way 'round:
    - Make a new Book Album
    - Select Images you may want to put in your Book.  Flag them.
    - Select some more.  Flag them.
    - Go to the "Flagged" container (listed near the top of the Library Inspector), select all, and drag-and-drop them to your Book Album.
    - Repeat as needed, or just drag-and-drop directly into the Book Album.
Note that you can remove any Image from any Album (including Books) by selecting and hitting the "{Delete}" key.  This _does not remove the Image from the Project that contains it, or from the Library.
Note, too, that once the Images are in your Book Album, you then put them in the Book you are creating for publication.  The Book Album contains the superset of Images with which you populate the Book itself.  The Book Album also holds the Book.
A good (imho ) introduction to the parts of Aperture can be found in this short guide I wrote.
The User Manual is helpful.  Here is

    From that chapter, here is

  • How can I force Safari v.6.1 to Save passwords for sites that request passwords NOT BE Saved"?

Since the last OS X update when Safari was updated to version 6.1, I am having problems with passwords not being saved from  specific sites that request that passwords "not be saved".
    Example: Adobe.com
I did not have problem with Safari 5.1.
When I go to Safari Preferences and "click on box" "Allow Autofill even for websites that request passwords not be saved", a pop up box opens and refers me to "SECURITY & PRIVACY" indicating that a "SCREENLOCK" must be engged to allow for this action.
    I have my firewall on.
I don't understand what they are requesring me to lock & how to do it.
Anyone who understands what I am being asked to do -or- how I can re-enable password saving, please email me.
    Thanks,
    <Email Edited by Host>

Actually, Linc's reply is EXACTLY the answer that is required.
If you go to the setting he mentions and enable the password after screen saver or sleep, then Safari 6.1 will allow you to save all the autofill login information you like, even the stuff for sites that request not to save them.
