The reply from cor-el assumes that the question was about an ordinary download, managed by the "Downloads" panel interface. A Firefox update does its downloading (before installation) with a different interface panel. I do not have a screen-capture of the actual panel in that it's appearance happened a few days ago and our final approach was to suspend the automatic download (note that that had been started in error), and then to do all the manual steps we usually would do for a deliberately, manually-started, update. But the "hanging in mid-air" update forced us to do that update in a way and at a time that we ordinarily would not do it.
I still contend that the Firefox update progress panel (whatever it is labelled) does *'''NOT*''' have any obvious cancellation interface, not even the "x" noted above. (... and if it *only* had an "x", in my opinion that would not be a sufficiently obvious interface as compared to having a "Cancel" button.)

How can one reference symbols from PutBIN.pl?

I've been working on some code with a large number of static
variables, and my startup times have gotten so slow that my swf
will hit the fifteen second timeout before actually doing anything.
Confuddled by this, I examined the code being generated and
eventually realised that Alchemy allocates all static values one
byte at a time, dynamically in Actionscript, at startup. This is
less than ideal when one has large static arrays.
So, as my code is not much use timing out, I spent some time
writing a bash script to parse the $$.achacks.as sourcefile
generated by alchemy, track all the static global variables, and
write their values out into a memory file in advance. The script
then removes all non-function-pointer references to StaticInitter,
which is what processes the byte-by-byte initialisations, and
replaces them with a single ByteArray readBytes() call. After these
changes, I allow alchemy to compile my new code into the resulting
swc/exe/swf. I expect it would now start up lightning fast.
For this to work, the assumption is that I can get a
ByteArray into the code that already contains the values I need. I
tried using [Embed()] metadata, but alchemy does not seem to
support it. I suppose that is what PutBIN.pl is for -- and hence my
question.
How can one reference a symbol loaded with PutBIN.pl? What
must be passed to it and how is that related to what's in the code?
Is there an example anywhere? I can't seem to get it to work.

it, but it is relatively long.

It's supposed to be ora_dict_obj_type. This is one of many event attributes that we can interrogate in DDL triggers. You can find out more in the online docs.

How can I cause the VO cursor(box) show-up/start?
Press Control-Option and F5. The F5 key is located on the top row of keys 6th key over. This is a toggling "Keyboard Shortcut" for turning VoiceOver on and off.
How can I move the VO cursor to various sentences or paragraphs of an article and have it start reading ... and perhaps even continue reading on to the next paragraph(s) ... even to the end of the article?
How to read a website with VoiceOver
Step 1: Go to the Website
A quick keyboard shortcut is Command-L. This will jump you up to the address bar. Start typing where you want to go. i.e "www.thewebsite.com"
Step 2: Working with Webpage
VoiceOver will automatically start reading the website. You can pause the speech by hitting the 'Control Button'.
If VoiceOver does not being reading the webpage, then you might have to "Interact" with it. If VoiceOver say "HTML Content" then press Control-Option-Space-Down Arrow to interact with the webpage.
Use Control-Option-Right Arrow to move throught the website. This will speak "EVERYTHING" on the page.
Most website that I've found have their articles labeled as 'Heading'. You can jump from heading to heading, by pressing Control-Option-Shift-H.
If you'd like an itemized alphabetical listing of the site, press Control-Option-I
Press Control-Option-Space on the link or article you want to view.
Step 3. Reading from Top to Bottom
Once you found and clicked on the the article/link, use the same 'Heading' command, Control-Option-Shift-H to find the title.
After finding the title, press Control-Option-A will start reading from the title on.
Note: If there are any other items (ads, pictures, etc) it will read those too.
Tip: You might be able to activate a feature called the 'Reader'. The Reader isolates the article and elimanates the ads The keyboard command is Shift-Command-R. You can also find it in the Menu Bar (Command-Option-M) under the word 'View' then 'Show Reader'.
I am using a MACPro with OSX, probably Mavericks 10.9 (where would I look to see if that is the correct information?)
You can find this information under the 'Apple menu' in the Menu Bar. To access the Menu Bar, press Control-Option-M.
Go to Apple Menu > About This Mac. This will open up another window. Use Control-Option-Right Arrow until you hear 'Version'. If you purchased it brand new from Apple within the last six month, more than likely you have Mavericks.

How can one invoke a WebLogic EJB from a BPEL Server hosted on OC4J?
Reason I ask is I keep getting this error:

Note: I am using <bpelx:exec> as a way to execute some java program.
Essentially my java client (essentially an EJB client hosted on Oc4J) needs access to wlclient.jar since it needs access to weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory. I have a EJB client running on BPEL server hosted on Oc4J that needs to access some EJBs hosted on weblogic.
Where do I place this wlclient.jar so that BPEL PM can start peacefully and at runtime discover the InitialContextFactory classes?
Placing it in the j2ee/home/applib doesn't solve the problem. The server fails to start up if I do this
I tried placing it in BPEL-INF\lib directory ...
I still get the same exception...see below for exception dump
I verified the BPEL suitcase, and it in fact does contain the jar file wlclient.jar

I did exactly as you suggested. I edited the application.xml and added this

I didn't add weblogic because the needed classes were all in wlclient.jar
I also edited the BASE_OB_CLASSPATH to include this jar.

Did you try using 'mute' in the System Preferences> Sound> output>
control panel? This usually will mute the startup sound; you may have
to try a few things to be sure only the startup will mute, not all sounds.
Of course, you could likely write an apple script in automator or in
text edit, that could automatically mute before shutdown and then
in startup items, have the script un-mute the audio for everything.
There are possibilities that do not include the command line; but
if you learn how to use that, without messing up other functions,
then even more custom control is possible in Mac OS X.
With that, you could write a substitute 'sound file' with white noise
or nothing in there; so instead of Bong, it'd be as quiet as a mouse.
PS: You may have a local reason why the site link posted above
does not work for you, but it does function and if the product is
free to use, and does not include adware or malware, here is an
untested download link from their site. (I can go there, easily.)

If the program does not open the last folder you visited you most likely have the option enabled to autoload Bridge on Startup. Either disable that option in PS or shut Bridge down before you shut off the computer.

If you always want it to start on a specific folder you can leave it on autoload, go to folder you want it to start on then exit Bridge. It should load this each time in future. Many of us discourage the autoload option as it can lead to other problems as well.

Start the computer,then press and hold down command and R keys to start into recovery partition.
When you see the Apple logo, release the keys.

Type in resetpassword and press enter on the keyboard.

Get info then check permissions then add your curent user name (it was probably different on old Mac) and give your username full read/write permissions.

It must have found the old backup corrupt.. so you will more than likely have little choice. You can archive off the old backup if it is still useful.
