How can one remove unwanted applications?

Thought I might like to make some space on my Notebook. Can I completely remove all the applications I don't need like Garageband, iMovie etc. by simply dragging thier appearence in finder, under applications, to the trash? Will this completely remove the programs? Also, if in the future I find I want to use one of these apps. that I remolved, I can reinstall them off of the mac os x install disc 1 right?

Yes, you can remove those applications by dragging them to the trash, but you might miss all of their little buddies that hide out in places like /Library/Application Support, etc. You can also reinstall them individually by using something like Pacifist. However, make sure you know where all the pieces are hiding. For example, items in Utilities are scattered about in three different packages. If space is that critical, I suggest that you get an external FireWire HD and use it for your bootable backup, applications you don't need, and extraneous data files. That way, if you ever wanted to use them, a quick drag & drop will suffice.

If you enabled Find my iPhone then you should use that. If not, I'm afraid you're out of luck for finding it.

How can one remove a raised texture pattern from a scan of the original photo?
Have several wedding photos scanned into PS Elements that were printed by the pro, photography studio on a raised pattern paper. Would anyone know how to remove the honey comb type pattern so that the picture canbe printed flat on glossy color photo paper?
Any help would be greatfully appriciated.
    Thanks,

The best way to remove a pattern is to use a Fast Fourier Transform.  There's a free plugin (as well as examples and instructions) here:
    http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6795661/4N6site/improc/fftplugin/examples.htm
Using the plugin requires editing the individual colour channels, which PSE does not natively allow.  You'll need the reasonably-priced Elements+ addin:
    http://elementsplus.net/
Here's a crop at 100% of the result I got:
The pattern is much reduced.  With some experimenting, you can probably do a little better.

    Hello,
What is the version of the server you are using?
The steps you have followed are perfectly fine and I don't see any issue there.
I hope you refreshed the list on the Content Administrator before accessing the application.

  • How can you remove an application' s registration info ?

    Hi all,
I recently bought Nikon Capture NX after trying the 30 day demo version.
The demo worked ok, but the one I bought doesn' t...
    I tried all versions ( 1.0, 1.0.1, 1.1 ) + both English and Dutch versions.
I' ve been talking to Nikon about this and they will send me a new cd.
Hope this will solve my problems, but here is my question:
How can I remove the registration info from the system, because I suspect this could be the problem as the demo worked ok and after registrating the app it all went wrong ? I even upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4 in the process ( after reformatting my HD etc. ) but the problems persist.
I would like to try out the demo once more to see if that works ok, but when I install ( after removing any Nikon- related file on my HD ) it automatically registers the app. , so I can' t try it in demo mode...
I don't want to go through a complete install of my system once more
    Any help is highly appreciated
    Regards,
    Peter

    Hello Klaus and Mike,
After all this trouble and time lost, I reinstalled my system once more - hoping the registration info would be gone as well ...
I didn' t try to install Capture NX yet, since I will receive a new install cd in a couple of days - maybe with a new serial ?
Anyway, this is what Nikon Support sent me this morning ( translated by me, so maybe not entirely to the letter :0) ):
    " Dear Mister Lembrechts,
Unfortunately, it is not possible to remove the registration completely.
The computer will hold the product key in its memory.
This is why a test- version can only be used for a limited time also.
The Capture NX version we sent you should solve all your problems.
    Nikon Europe Support
    www.europe-nikon.com/support "
Now as you do not need a registration key to use a 30 day demo version of this software, I cannot see why they don' t implement a "unregister" button or something in the preferences for example.
This could prevent the kind of struggle I experienced here.
Well, lets hope this will solve it then...

  • How do I remove unwanted applications in 10.7 ?

Sorry but I've recently migrated from system 9.0 to  OS 10.7, with a brief interval at 10.4.
My question is, is there no way to remove 'core' applications like Safari, AppsStore, PhotoBooth etc. NONE of which I want or need ... I have favoured applications which I which to continue to use and these others are just clutter which take up space in the applications folder .....
Can anyone help as trying to delete them just throws up a "this is needed by the System" message ..... You can't even move them or hide them .... I find it difficult to believe that either AppsStore or Safari is needed by any system (apart from the Apple accounting system)....  Whatever happened to the 'user friendly' Macs I've known for so many years. Do  I really have to put up with Apple deciding what applications I want or need?
At the moment it feels that BIG BROTHER IS ALIVE AND WELL & LIVING IN CULPERTINO !

    Hi Pincrete,
welcome to ASC (Apple Support Communities) and to OS X...both can be challenging at times...
Listen to what Thomas is telling you. OS X does not work like System 9.0.
You need to understand how its built and how it functions before you go delving off into the wild world of 3rd party apps - and believe me, for us regulars on ASC, 90% of the problems we deal with are caused by 3rd party apps. Of the other 10%, most of those are users who don't understand how OS X works, fiddling with it to make it work the way they want it to and breaking it in the process.
You are right that Apple has become increasingly dictatorial — things hit a head with the introduction of Lion which really puts the OS in charge of the user in a way never seen before. I've struggled at times myself over the last 12 months wondering whether I'm cut out for Apple's vision of computing.
I'm still here. Mountain Lion is looking like a return to form for OS X, though for you that won't mean much yet. The best thing I can advise you to do at the moment is not to worry about the things you don't can't delete. You're not forced into using them, and disk space is cheap (indeed, the whole OS including the unwanted apps is only 4GB). Easiest way to ignore them is to drag them off the Dock, and only populate the Dock with things YOU want. I would avoid messing about with hacks for Lauchpad. They'll break as soon as you do a system update.
Make the system work for you first (you can download Firefox or Opera instead of Safari). In fact, more non-Apple apps work on OS X now than ever before, so you're certainly not constrained by what you can use.
If you haven't found these resources yet, have a look here on your machine:
     > More Info... > Support >
and explore both 'OS X Support' and 'User Manual' from that screen.

  • HT4484 How can I remove an application from my "Purchased" history?

I have installed some apps then removed them from iPad. How can remove them from App Store purchased application?

You can't.   Purchase history remains even though you have deleted the apps themselves.  You can hide them so that they do not show up.

  • How Can I Remove An Application Icon From My Desktop?

Every time I open Google Earth or Firefox, I little icon pops up on my desktop as a "disk". To make it go away I have to eject it. Surely there has to be a way to open a program and not have this happen. I'm sure it's an easy fix, but I'm still fairly new to this. Thanks to anyone who can tell me what to do!

    OK...I just figured out!
When I dragged the icon down to my dock, I actually used the one from the volume instead of the one from my applications folder. Therefore it always wanted to open the .dmg file instead of the actual program. I THINK I said that all correctly! Thanks for the help though, you gave me the idea to try something different than I was and I found the solution.

  • How can I remove old applications?

I went to my system profiler and under Applications I found lots of old versions dating back years. Presumably these are taking up space. How do I remove them, just leaving the latest version that I need?
    Thanks.

    HI whellock,
A better way to do that is to go to: MacintoshHD/Applications. Just drag any file you wish to the Trash and empty the Trash. Just keep the most recent versions.
Also, when you post in the forums in the future, please indicate which Mac you have and which operating system. Click the Apple logo top left of your Desktop and then click, "About This Mac" .. a pane will open and the information will be displayed there. It makes for quicker responses to your posts!

  • How can I remove an application that is under another apple id?

    Apple Support Community,
I purchased a Macbook Pro, 13-inch, Mid 2012, running OS X 10.9 (13A603) used on Amazon. I neglected to reset the computer upon recieving so now I am stuck with somewhat of a quagmire. I don't want to reset the computer now since I have installed most of the programs I will need for my day to day functions not to mention all my media that I was able to convert from my old PC. There is an issue I am having with the App Store trying to update "Angry Birds" but it will not continue with the update because I am entering the wrong User ID for the download. Is there anyway I can just delete this application from the update area? I noticed that when I went to download Mavericks there were updates available for applications that were already installed on the Macbook so I simply deleted the previous versions on the Macbook and downloaded the recent updates under my Apple ID. I would do this for the Angry Birds application but this would require me to purchase it when I do not want this game on my computer... Does anyone have any advice to solve my situation?

If it's not available on your country store, simply create an account on the other Store, then you will be able to download the Apps.
The iTunes Store in a country is intended only for use by that country's residents, and only while they are in the country. To use the iTunes Store in a country you need a credit card (or other card type if acceptable in a country) issued in that country, billed to an address in that country, and also be physically present in that country when using the store.  You are also restricted to waiting 90 days between country changes.

  • How can I prevent unwanted applications reappearing in the Mac OS X Lion dock?

Every time I log out and back in, or shut down / restart the computer, three applications that I have previously removed from the dock (Mission Control, the App Store and FaceTime) reappear in the dock. I see someone else on a different forum is having exactly the same problem.
I have no problem removing them during my session - I can right click 'Remove From Dock', and they disappear in a little puff of smoke. But when I log back in, there they are again.
This is not critical, but it's quite frustrating! Any ideas on how to stop this happening?
    Thanks,
    Helen

    1. Find the file in: /library/preferences/com.apple.dockfixup.plist
    2. Trash it
    3. Restart
    And done.
Basically, if you trash that file you tell your mac to build a new dock file and it will work fine after that. Had the same problem but this solved it for me.
Also, back up the file beforehand, just in case.
