How can OSX 10.7 be virtualized in a VMware Hypervisor 5 envrionment?
I'm trying to virtualize an OSX 10.7 instance in my VMWare Hypervisor 5.0 cluster. I'm having issues getting the install to run (it just hangs when the virtual machine trys to boot the image). Is this something that's supposed to be supported?
My grounds for this installation are to help create a more robust Lion Server infrastructure to support numerous mobile devices.

... As for your query, AFAIK, you can't legally run the Mac OS on anything by Apple computers. So, might be time to spring for one of those for your server farm.
I do not have a MAC. I'm running an Intel based server using Xeon CPUs.
Just an FYI: VMware added support for installing ESX5 to Macs so that you could legally run OSX VMs with the ESX hypervisor. The catch is that for the moment only the Apple Xserve 3,1 is on the compatibility list. I'm assuming that VMware is testing Mac Pros to add to the compatibility list and many are hoping that Minis will get added also. But since Apple stopped selling Xserves and with the uncertainty regarding the Mac Pro's future, and both Apple and VMware's policy of not discussing future plans, anyone interested in OSX vms on ESX is kinda in a bind.
Going outside of a type 1 hypervisor, you can get a Mac, install a type 2 hypervisor like Parallels or VMware Fusion, then you can still legally have OSX VMs. If you're already running ESX, then you are arguably better off getting Fusion since the virtual machines are compatible between Fusion and ESX. (Mostly anyway, or at least easier to convert between Fusion and ESX.)

I see "Get DAQ Channel Names.VI" and "Get Channel Information.VI" but I just want to get the name of just channel 0, or just channel 1. Is using an array of all channel names the only way I can do this?
I have Labview 6.1.
THANKS!!!
LaurenLauren,
Yes, currently that is the best way to go about accomplishing that. I attached a little VI that demonstrates a very basic way of finding the first virtual channel that uses device channel 1.

How can we integrate OVD(Oracle Virtual Directory) with CDB(Content Databas
Hi,
We are using Oracle Content DB (10.2.0.0.0) which is integrated with OID (Oracle Internet Directory).
We are trying to use OViD (Oracle Virtual Directory) as Identity management for integrating multiple Directory sources like OID and Database.
Can you give us some suggestions or referrals on implementing OVD as Identity management for CDB.
Thank You,
ParkerHi,
I am looking at a similar architecture & would like to know if this can be achieved.
I have a set of users in OID and another set of users in Database tables. I want to abstract the two sources with OViD and present OViD as the single source of truth to Oracle AS 10.1.2 Single Sign On.
Can you please tell me if this is possible & if yes, can you please share some best practices ? Also, is this a certified & supported configuration ?
Thanks,

How can I fully used the display power in VMWare Fusion
Hi,
I am a newbie in in MAC. I've bought a MBP with embedded & standalone display card. I have installed windows in VMWare. However, it's display power in Windows Experience index is just 1. I think it's due to the display driver used in something call "WM SVG2", (not sure, as I am not next to it now). Also, I found there is an unknown device which I think is related to the build in Webcam
Can someone help me:
Can I fully utilized the display power of my MAC and how?
How to resolve the unknown device related to the Webcam?
THX.
MacPro Mac OS X (10.5.7) Windows VISTANo, sorry. There's no way to do that in a virtual machine. Remember, that OS X is the booted operating system and it has control over your hardware. The virtual machine, as far as OS X is concerned, is just another application running alongside any and all other applications (and really, that IS all it is, just very clever software to emulate a computer within a computer). Any hardware calls from Windows have to go through the virtual machine software interface and then are handled by OS X. OS X does not support using both video subsystems simulataneously, and even if it did (or perhaps will, in future machines) your installation of Windows cannot access ANY hardware directly, so you still would be unable to achieve true native Windows performance.

How can I have Microsoft-for-PC system on my McBook?
I have already created a Virtual Box from Oracle on my McBook Pro.
Now I want to be able to use PC system because numerous things are not for Apple, but only for PCs, and if I want to download them, they come as .exe files not as .dmg files
how can I now use this virtual box? and install Microsoft PC in it?
thanksIf you want to run Windows natively directly on hardware, a Mac is just a PC with EFI, you use Boot Camp to help install Windows.

We are setting up a new environment for a client based on Citrix XenApp Server 6 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 which is virtualized on a VMWare hypervisor. Client uses Firefox and we need to know if it is going to work or not. If not, what is the root cause (i.e. XenApp, Windows Server 2008 R2, virtualization).
Thanks again! :)I only ask because, in the past we were able to install a related product, InDesign CS5 in Citrix. In fact, Adobe had published documentation for doing exactly that: here. I just haven't seen anything similar for Illustrator CS6 and wanted to check.

I just updated to iPhoto 9.4 on both my (just updated) OSX 10.8.2 MacBook Pro and my OSX 10.7.5 Mac mini.
For some mysterious reason Apple specifies that I can not subscribe to the new "Shared Photo Streams" from my OSX 10.7.5 Mac mini.
How could that be ?
How can I get around this ?
How can it be that Apple claims that 'Shared Photo Streams' can be shared to all my other devices, but it turns out that my major photo-database can't, even though it has a brand new version of last year's OSX running... ???!!!
This can't be a software issue...
because if that were the case Apple would be deliberately cutting off users of last year's operating system... (...I even think there is a law prohibiting that...)
so... can anyone tell me what the exact piece of hardware is that I am missing ?
or has anyone found a solution for this yet ?
Thanks !The only hardware that's preventing me from upgrading to 10.8 "Mountain Lion" would be the fact that a Mid-2007 Mac mini doesn't have a separate graphics card...
...as all other hardware-components ar similar to the iMac Mid 2007... :
- at least 2GB of PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM RAM
- a 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo "Merom" processor
- a WiFi-N compatible AirPort-card (I've upgraded the one in my Mac mini to an Atheros AR-9280...)
- OSX 10.6.8 or later installed (I have OSX 10.7.5)
- iPhoto 9.4
...so the only spec I not meeting hardware-wise is the fact that my Mac mini has a GMA950 shared graphics card...
but surely... that can not be the reason I can't subscribe to a Photo Stream...
why would that have anything to do with eachother ???!!!
[ I've even seen claims of tricked OSX 10.8 installers for the Mid-2007 Mac mini, so if that's my only option... ] -
How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system. Not enough memory to upgrade.
You can't. iCloud is not for general file backup from a Mac. It's for backup up and syncing data between mobile devices and and Macs and The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: Backup and restore overview.
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your (mobile) device using iOS 5 or later. Once you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .....
What is backed up
You get unlimited free storage for:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
App data
Home screen and app organization
Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
Ringtones
Visual Voicemails
But not from a Mac. If you want to backup your photos and other important files I suggest you get an external hard drive and use it with Time Machine.

Mostly explained in the title. My dad gave me his MacBook, and I went ahead and wiped all of his stuff by using the recovery partition to wipe/reinstall OSX Lion. In the setup I used a new apple ID and now I can't get iLife apps. I'm relatively new to how apple works its purchases, so I'm not sure what's up. Is it that my computer has a unique ID set to the first apple ID used on it, and if so, how can I get this reset to my ID? I'm planning to get an iPhone 5 soon so I'd like to be able to use photo stream with iPhoto and try out Guitar Band.
Any help is much appreciated.

How can I use LDAP searching from OSX Lion Server to Mozilla Thunderbird?
How can I use LDAP searching from OSX Lion Server to Mozilla Thunderbird? We have a super awesome contacts server that works great for our Mac users. About 30% of our company are on PCs, and I would like to use the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client for them. I see that in Thunderbird I can set up LDAP searching, and would like to have this feature point to our contacts server. I've tried several different settings, and looked all over the web, but could not find the proper way to configure this. Does anyone know if this can be done, or if not, would have a better suggestion? Thank you for your time!!
try double clicking keychain acces should launch and ask if you want to install login, system, System roots
A dialog box will launch asking where to install the cert since your configuring a vpn I would put the certificate it in system. -

How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver? I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. There are 4 HDMI-in ports on the receiver - BD, DVD, DVR/BDR and audio. In my system preferences for sound, the receiver doesn't show up as an output option. Can anyone please advise. (ps, this is my first time posting a question, so I hope I can find your answers!) thanks, JP downunder
For sound, try the audio output port and connecting to the RCA audio input ports on your Pioneer receiver. Use something like this:
