How can recover files from a HD with damaged "permissions"

I had a second HD drive installed on my macbook pro with my iPhoto library and other files stored and, for my own stupid reasons, which had not been backed up for over 3 months. It was actually the original Toshiba boot drive that came with the machine. I replaced it with an SSD over 18 month ago no problems.
The drive now has permission errors which the OS X disk utility cannot repair. I cannot copy the iPhoto library to my main drive and half way through the copying process a get an "error reading disk" message. I cannot open the iPhoto library using iPhoto either.
I decided to remove the HD and replace with a new larger and faster drive as the existing one was probably over 5 years old. No problems with the new drive whatsoever.
I am tried connecting the faulty drive using a USB interface and running the disk repair utility - no difference. Although I was able to copy smaller files other than the iPhoto Library.
I am running 10.10.1.
Is there anyway or any 3rd party app that can recover the iPhoto library? I don't want to waste money buying one of these so called great apps that ends up doing no better than the standard OS X. I read somewhere they all use the same code within OS X to repair anyway!
Ideas appreciated. The iPhoto libabry has my daughters 2nd birthday photos on it and our last holiday therefore I am in big trouble.

Try to to open the iPhoto Lib (right click) and Show Package Contents. Go to the the Masters folder (it must be organized by date folders), choose an image or folder and see if you can copy instead of the iPhoto Lib.

  • How to recover files from a deleted partition?

Unfortunately, my OSX was not booting and I deleted my partition. Through the Internet Recovery mode I reinstalled the original OSX Mountain Lion it came with. I then upgraded to Maverick. I know that deleting a partition practically means all files are lost. I heard that files can be recovered on a Windows when a partition is deleted. Is there any way I can recover files from a partition that was deleted just a day ago?

    Hi,
Yes, it is possible to recover deleted partition or volume on Mac. Previously I was able to recover all my data lost due to accidental deletion of partition on my Mac PC by using recover Mac data software. This tool is really helpful, here you can download this tool.

  • How to recover files from an external hard drive

I just got a brand spankin' new iMac yesterday. I've never had an Apple computer before so I was unfamiliar with Time Machine. I called my husband in to help me out thinking he would be more tech-saavy than me, clearly I was mistaken! He backed up my computer onto our WD external hard drive that we had stored ALL of our photos on. Before it would let him go any further is stays you must erase the previous back up or something (which we didn't really know what that meant). So now that my new iMac is backed up ALL of my pictures and files are erased. Please tell me if there is ANY way possible to recover those files? These are pictures of when my daughter was born all the way up through now!! Please help!!! Thanks!
PS. I don't know what operating system or anything like that I am using. I literally just got it out of the box last night so whatever comes on the computer!!

Click anywhere on the open desktop so that the Finder menus are displayed at the top of the screen.
    Click Go > Network
Double click the Time Capsule icon, then double click the icon representing the drive to mount it on the Mac's desktop. It is named "Data" unless you have changed it
You can drag/drop files to the "Data" icon on the desktop
235 GB is going to take forever if you try to do this using wireless. If at all possible, connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule.
Even using Ethernet, you are probably looking at 10-12 hours for the file transfer.  All bets are off with wireless only, but a guess would be several days....or even more.

  • How to recover files which are  desapeared with a replacement of a folder

Hi, i will make a stupid question/ where are my files gone when i replaced a folder with a new one with the same name. Can i recover them?
    Thank you for answer!

How did you replace the folder? If you trashed it, it should be in the trash. If you've cleared the trash, there are other ways, but TM should work as well, if not easier.
You should be able to Open Finder. Go to the folder in question. Click on the Time Machine icon on the Dock. If there is an older version, you should be able to go back in time and view the OLD contents. Click on the gears to restore. If it's not there, make sure you get the folder location absolutely correct.

  • How to recover file from Time Machine ".purgeable" backup

    Hello,
My TimeCapsule internal drive recently almost "died". Of course, it died a few days before I lost a very important file... When I enter TimeMachine in the Finder, I can go back in time a few days in the past, but not more, I can not access September backups for example, because the folders are just black rectangles instead of regular Finder folder windows, and the "time scale" on the right hand side is purple instead of white.
I had this warning message in AirPort Utility saying that to do a backup of my TC drive. Fortunately, I was able to do it on an external drive (I took several DAYS, but it finally completed). So now I have an "Archive AirPort Time Capsule_temp" folder on my external drive and inside it a <my computer name>.purgeable file. What to do with it now?
If I rename it with a ".sparsebundle" and I try to mount it, it fails ("image not recognized"). If I right click and select "Open bundle", I get a "bands" folder and inside it there a dozens of thousand of files named like "6392e". But it doesn't seem I can anything with them. Weird, because if I'm not right, before Mavericks, we could actually access "real" files with this method.
Any help would be really much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Mateo

Enter Time Machine from Finder. To see all mounted volumes shift - command - c.    Information learned from Linc Davis.

  • How to recover files from a crashed hard drive

I believe my hard drive is in the early stages of crashing.  Last night I was using my Macbook Pro and was running safari and microsoft word when all the sudden the computer froze up and I got the spinning wheel.  I waited for about 5 minutes hoping the wheel would go away and after no avail decided to turn the computer off by holding the power button.  I waited a couple minutes to let it cool down and then I rebooted it and I was then given the jumping folder with a ? on it.  I did some research and found that this basically means your hard drive was crashing.  So I read a solution online that if you hit the Option button while the Mac is booting up it will allow you to select a hard drive.  I did this and luckily I was able to select my main hard drive and the computer booted up, but once I had logged in and was at the desktop screen the computer was very slow and when I tryed to open Finder I was once again given the spinning wheel.  The wheel continued to spin for a solid 10 minutes and the screen finally went black with just the spinning wheel.  So I once again decided to turn off the computer by holding the power button.  I have gone and talked to 2 different tech support stores and both are pretty sure that the hard drive is failing, which I pretty much already knew, and that it is going to be around 75$ to recover the lost information and another 125$ to install a brand new hard drive.
However, I have been using Time Machine to back up my computer but I have not backed it up since August 23rd which was about 2 weeks ago.  So I would lose all the files that I have made in the last 2 weeks basically and since I started school I have done quite a bit of work and so I do not want to lost the files.
What solutions can you come up with that I could use to possibly recover my files?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • How can I file a formal complaint with the Apple Online Store Canada?

I've spoken to two customer service representatives at this point about an order that I cancelled within a half an hour of placing it, as I was initially unaware that the product I purchased would not fit my sister's iPhone. As stated in the Cancelled Order portion of the following page: http://store.apple.com/ca/help/viewing_changing_orders#cancel, I should NOT have been billed for the order. I was billed last Friday and am still yet to receive the refund, despite the fact that the first rep I spoke to advised that my money would be refunded in one day. The statement on the link I provided is completely misleading, as well as the email I received stating that I would not be charged at all. Someone with Apple must amend this statement on the website and the automated emails, as it could be considered legally misleading. I will in no way be pursuing any legal action, as I don't have the time and I'm only out $90.00, but I can't imagine having purchased the MacBook that I wanted to purchase prior to this incident and going through an ordeal like this again. Can someone please advise who I should contact and where I can find their contact information please? I love the apple products that I own and would hate to discontinue my customer relationship with the company.

Also, please remember that no refund from any store is instantaneous. They will process the refund, probably within 24 - 48 hours. After that, your bank/credit card company has to credit your account....... mine takes at least 3 business days to do so (the banks are very efficient in posting charges, but like to keep the money for a couple of days before giving it back to you - they've been doing that for years).
Edit: I just checked their return/refunds policy and it includes this:
Once we receive your item, a refund is initiated immediately. If you canceled a pickup item, and you were billed for it, we initiate your refund immediately after you submit your cancel request. The way your refund is processed depends on your original payment method:
If you paid by credit or debit card, refunds will be sent to the card-issuing bank within five business days of receipt of the returned item. Please contact the card-issuing bank with questions about when the credit will be posted to your account.
Products purchased from the Apple Online Store using an Apple Store Gift Card will be refunded to you as an Apple Store Gift Card by email within 3 business days. If you’d like us to mail you an Apple Store Gift Card, ask the representative helping you. You will receive it within 8 business days via United States Postal Service (USPS). If you purchased an item from the Apple Online Store and are returning it to an Apple Retail Store, you'll receive an Apple Store Gift Card by email within 3 business days.
Note that it states it will be initiated immediately, but  will be sent within 5 business days.

  • How can I print from my IMAC with Mavericks OS to the Canon MP560 printer's rear tray?

I have just moved from a Windows platform to Imac.  On Windows, in Word, I was able to select where the paper was feeding (automatically select, rear tray, etc.) but now I can't select rear tray.  I've already tried the "Quality & Media" under presets but was not given an option to change where the paper comes from.  Can anybody help?

You need to turn on Printer Sharing on both the PC and OS X. I can't help you on Vista but in OS X it's System Preferences - Sharing - check the Printer Sharing box.

  • How to transfer files from emac and tiger to iMac

I am getting a new intel based iMac.  How can I transfer from old eMac with Tiger OS?

What you're going to need to do is physically transfer files from your old computer to the new one. Just doing a migration will not work.
What kind of information do you want to transfer?
    1. Connect the computers onto the same network. I'd recommend using an ethernet cable over a wireless network.
    2. On your old computer, go into system preferences> sharing> and turn on file sharing.
    3. Repeat step 2 on your new computer.
    4. On your new computer, go into the Finder, open a new window. Underneath "shared" on the left hand side you should see your old computer. Select the computer and connect as the admin user of your old computer (so use your old username and password).
    5. Inside of this finder window, you can navigate to the files you want to transfer.

I'm trying to create an custom email but email won't recognize Java Script, Only HTML.
How do I export my tample from Muse CC using only HTML coding?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
It is not possible to selectively export only part of the code for the exported page(s). The pages that are exported, all the code for them is exported, and there's no way to export only the HTML and leave out the rest of it.

  • Recovering files from trash???

PLEEEEEASE HELP! Can someone tell me if you can recover files from somewhere in the system that have been deleted from trash

    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.

  • HELP! How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?

    Hi,
I am having a few problems with bootcamp on my imac. When i tried to move the bootcamp partition on windows 7 into free space, it crashed and turned off. Ever since i have had the error 'Missing operating system' and it fails to boot. I have some very important files on the bootcamp partition. Is it possible to recover these files or even to restore the bootcamp partition to it's original state? I do not have a backup of my bootcamp partition. Another problem i have is that ever since i tried to expand my macintosh HD partition into free space, when i hold alt while booting up (to choose which partition to boot like i normally do), the bootcamp partition has stopped appearing. This means that i cannot even boot the windows 7 bootcamp partition anymore!
So basically here are my 2 questions:
How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?
How can i make the Bootcamp partition appear in Startup Disk and when i hold the option key while starting up my computer to allow me to boot windows 7?
Any solutions are very much apreciated!
    Thanks!
I know that bootcamp (disk0s4) hasn't been fully deleted since it appears in disk utility (i cant do anything to it though)
And here is the error i see when i try to launch bootcamp (back when i was actually able to boot up bootcamp to the error screen)

WinClone 3 is OS X and saves Windows image it makes for restore - that should work but you will have to try and you would need to make a new image unless it also works with a native Windows system restore image. It is now supported and has come a long way.
    http://www.twocanoes.com/
Paragon Clone OS works and does disk-to-disk clone just like CCC you end up with two bootable drives. But does not work with your setup. It would let you clone and move your Windows install to an SSD or another disk drive though and be bootable.
During its clone process it checks for errors which is very helpful and lets you know - something CCC and others should adopt more of.

I wish for our/my sake you had re-read and rewritten the long 'story' and broken it into a brief list of facts we needed.
    OS X
    Windows
Backup (though external is much safer) and you want bootable OS X clones as well as TimeMachine

There are a number of things to do like chkdsk and others as well as Windows DVD to do automatic system repairs and find out why.
AppleHFS - the abilty to mount and read HFS volumes can be notorious.
I would rearrange and redo your storage setup and how you use the 4-5 internal hard drive bays.
