How can the alpha channel be removed in an image with the command sips?

I solved it by converting the image to jpeg with best quality, but it's a less than optimal solution.
Is there a better way?
I want to know because I'm developing a bash script to manipulate images.

I'm developing a Bash script to automate PNG compression.
Converting true color images is often a good idea to reduce file size dramatically but transparency doesn't look any good then. So removing the alpha channel is usually the thing to do.
I think Apple's platform is very easy to use but as soon as I dig deeper into the system it often becomes frustrating. Why isn't there a simple way to do something so simple and basic as removing alpha channels from images from the command line? Sips should be the answer but doesn't seem to be, unless I've missed something, but the manual doesn't give any clue.

I have almost 10,000 songs/cuts in my music collection and, because of the poor quality of iTunes music, very few of those songs/cuts come from iTunes. Surely there is an intelligent, relatively easy to implement procedure for doing this. I routinely combine 10 lines of 36 pt bible or lecture text to a suitable background using Boris Title 3D.
Many times the text is too long to fit the screen using Boris, so I devide it into 2 or more parts with no transition between sections.
In my case, the text is on the screen as the speaker quotes them.

You can't. You can take a screen cap of it, but the container doesn't allow access to the individual images used in a SWF or FLV.

Log out and log back in, if you haven’t done so recently. Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

You can't. The only way to remove the Restriction password is to: a) Restore the iPod using a backup that predates the setting up of the Restrictions password; or assuming you don't have such a backup b) Restore the iPod to Factory Settings/New iPod.

You dont have to put everything onto your webserver first. You can start with DW locally (with all files stored on your computer) before uploading a completed site to your server.

With Disk Warrior can I start with a CD/DVD and get at the files on the hard disk?
With apple disk utilites I can not see my files that are on the hard disk.
If I could get at my files I could back them up and reformat my hard disk.
