How can you deauthorize a computer that you no longer have?

How can I deauthorize a computer I no longer have? I was trying to sign into my itunes on my computer and it said that it was already being used on 5 other computers and that I would have to deauthorize one of them before I could sign in. I don't have any of those computers anymore so what needs to be done?

De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
1. Open iTunes on a computer
2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

If you find you have reached 5 authorizations due to system upgrades, you can reset your authorization count by clicking Deauthorize All in the Account Information screen. Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than 5 authorized computers or if you have used this option within the last 12 months.
in itunes 7 you can access your account by going into the music store and clicking the account link on the right hand side of the music store then sign in using your account details

If you've got 5 computers authorised for the account in question, and you need to free up authorizations, I'd do a "Deauthorize All" from one of the computers you have access to, and then reauthorize the computers you have access to.

You cannot, nor do you need to, until you reach the limit of 5. Once you reach 5, then you can deauthorize all, and then authorize the active computers.

You can't, which shouldn't be a problem unless you have 4 other computers authorized with the iTunes account and you need to authorize another.

I'm not aware of anyway to see a list of your authorised computers. Have you had other computers in the past and/or updated or reinstalled the OS on those that you still have without first deauthorising them ? Individual computers can only be deauthorised directly on them, but when you've reached the 5 computer limit then you can log into your account and 'deauthorise all' (which you can do once every 12 months) and you can then authorise/reauthorise the computers that you still have and need : authorising and deauthorising.

I had to bring a new computer on line. I reached my limit of computers (5) that I can authorize for my content. The computer that I am replacing is dead so I can't deauthorize it and when I try the deauthorize all button it says I can't do that because I must wait a year to do it again. Click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance. Only they can perform a second Deauthorize All within the yearly period.

...since I have had both happen to two laptops recently and now I can't authorize a 6th (but in reality a 4th) computer...seems a bit like needing the key to get inside, but the key is locked in the house. So if I have 5 computers stolen I would need to go find those who stole it to deauthorize? Come on now. If I am incorrect and there is in fact another way, then at minimum more information needs to be represented regarding the proper procedure to achieve my goal of deauthorizing an inaccessable computer. I cannot be the only one who has faced this conundrum. Eventually if 5 computers fail beyond repair or are stolen and I can't gain access to deauthorize them then I will have NO access to my own songs. That is unnacceptable at best, and the way I see it potentially illegal.

Last October I did a "clean install" of the Lion OS (10.8.3) on my laptop and renamed my laptop. Now I have discovered that I cannot sync any purchased apps onto my iphone 4s, nor delete the ones I don't want to keep. Music can be synced but not apps. If you can't start iTunes on a computer, you can't deauthorize. But really, don't worry for the reason that, once you will reach the 5 authorizations you are allowed to, you will be able to use the "deauthorize all computer" option to reset all of them (this can be done once per year).
i would also like to change my main device to my new computer.
