How can you fix corrupt Project Files in Final Cut Pro X?

Hello All,
I have reason to believe that one of my project files in Final Cut Pro X is corrupt.
How may I begin to resolve this issue?  Is there a third party software someone could recommend, like Digital Rebellion (if they have software for FCP X, I'm not sure) that may improve, if not hopefully solve this issue?
Many thanks!!
Molly

Had a similar problem.
Follow it here:
http://www.fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/11076-freeze-during-export
among other steps taken I used Corrupt Clip Finder to isolate/remove the culprit and all was OK after that
no idea how/why the file ( which I''d been using over 5 previous versions) became corrupted

  • How to Import AVCHD 1080/60p Files into Final Cut Pro 7?

How do I import AVCHD 1080 / 60p Files into Final Cut Pro 7? And if there is no direct way [I certainly haven't found one, but I'm no expert], what additional software would be used? I want to import the files from a Panasonic HDC-HS700 onto an Intel Mac laptop [Mac OSX 10.5.8]? Obviously I don't want to compress & compromise my footage.
I’m sure a simple, straightforward series of steps would help many people with this issue.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the response!
I'm guessing you've found ClipWrap2 to be better than competing products [such as AVCHD Converter for Mac, Toast Titanium, or Voltaic].
On to the next steps. Using Clipwrap2, would I leave the checkbox "Convert Audio to LPCM" selected or deselected [and what the heck is LPCM?]. In the pulldown menu would I choose "Rewrap (Don't alter video samples)" or do I save a step by choosing "Apple ProRes 422"?
And finally, am I gaining anything by shooting 1080/60p on this Panasonic HD Camera other than a headache? [Some have suggested this is not a True 60p.]

  • How can you open a project file backup if the main project won't load?

This has only started happening in the last couple of weeks. I'm on Logic 10.0.7, OSX 10.8.5. On one particular project, it will be loading seemingly normally, then it just disappears with no crash log, nothing.
Presumably there is some sort of corruption in the project file.
In the old pre package days, you would just go to the project file backups folder and pick a previous one. Bingo, you have only lost a little bit of work.
Now when I show package contents, the project file backups folder has project data files that won't open logic, and are invisible until you have logic open. Which I can't do.
Rue the day I selected the package option rather than folder.
    Any suggestions?
Or to put the question another way, how can I convert the project data in the project file backups folder to a file that Logic can recognise and open?

Having his install the trial is the way to go. Working between AI versions is a pain and as you are finding out almost impossible with 5 versions between the collaborators.

  • How can I automate log and capture in Final Cut Pro

Does anyone know of a way to schedule the log and capture of video in Final Cut Pro with a script or software application, so that it doesn't have to be done manually?
I am using a capture card in my Mac to record college lectures for our department and it's not always possible for me to be there to start the capture. Our lectures occur on a regular schedule.
I am a new Mac user and I'm also new to Final Cut Studio 2. Thanks for any help on this topic!

In Automator, all the apps you can automate are listed in the far left hand pane. Click on the QT Player icon there to see the "Actions" available for it. In that list you should see "New Video Capture" and "Start Capture". First drag "New Video Capture" to the big pane on the right, where you assemble your workflow. Then drag the "Start Capture" action beneath that. You're basically done.
How to Save and Schedule this can be found in the Automator Help, when you search on "iCal":
    1. Choose File menu > Save As Plug-in.
    2. Choose iCal from the "Plug-in for" pop-up menu.
    3. Click Save. Automator opens iCal and creates an event that calls the workflow at the scheduled time.
    4. Name your event and set the date and time for the workflow to run using the pop-up menus in the info drawer.
You'll need to do another "workflow" to Stop the recording. All you need is the "Stop Record" action in the workflow - then save the same way as listed above.
Just note - I've used this process before and the QT movie generated, despite being recorded as "Camera Native" - was not editable in FCP. In fact, I don't even think I could import the final QT into FCP - let alone edit it. If editing's necessary maybe someone else can offer up another step to enable it. It was not necessary for my exact application, so I never explored it.
    Good luck.

  • How can I publish the "levels" effect to final cut pro x?

    Hello,
I'm trying to publish all of the color correction plugins from motion into final cut pro x, the "levels" effect in particular. I have read the instructions in the manual and published all the parameters and then saved it to send it over to final cut pro x but the problem that I'm having is when I open it up in final cut pro x all the parameters are there except for the histogram and its controls, what am I doing wrong and how can I fix it? Thanks.

The short answer is you can't publish the levels graphic UI (you can, but it doesn't work in FCPX - all you get is the collection of the individual slider controls.)
You can create a shape with a gradient fill. Set a middle color tab and a second opacity tab. You can use Link parameter behaviors from the color/opacity tabs to the the filter > Levels parameter controls. Use the color tabs for Black In, Gamma and White In. Use the Opacity tabs for Black Out and White Out.
You can publish the shape's gradient.
The problem is, to publish this UI, you're publishing an actual gradient and people will be able to make alterations to the gradient (it won't change how it operates the levels controls.) The other problem with it is that it is possible for users to accidentally pull off or add new tabs which will immediately break the effect (and immediate "undo" should repair it though). Then, figuring out how to manipulate the Gamma control is going to be a trick (I haven't figured out yet.) The values go from 5 (all the way left) to 0 (all the way right - with 1 the 50% mark) for the Gamma control itself, but the UI controller (the middle tab on the gradient) moves the control in the opposite direction and the values are logarithmic in scale. You can use the mid-tab control on the gradient linked to the gamma parameter value, but it won't behave the same way as you would expect a genuine levels control to behave (left to right goes from black to white when the expectation would be the opposite.)
A gradient with links into the filter is about the only way to go if you want it give it a shot.

  • How can I get MPEG-2 video into Final Cut Pro X?

Hello!  I have several MPEG-2 video files on which I need to perform some edits.  When I tried to import them into Final Cut Pro, I learned that Final Cut Pro can't import MPEG files.  Okay, so I went into QuickTime and exported one as 720p.  20 minutes later, I had a video that I could load in FCP.  Awesome.  Except that when I watched the video, the audio was waaaaaaaay out of sync.  So, is there a different way I could get this MPEG-2 video into a format that FCP will like while keeping video and audio together?
I would keep trying a few different things without direction, but these videos are like 90 minutes long and the conversion process is lengthy.
    Thanks!

Although I looked up the equipment, I couldn't find what kind of MPEG2. I'm assuming program stream.
I don't know why you had the sync problem with QT. You could bring it into FCP and detach the audio and manually line it up it's off by a constant amount.
Or you can use MEG Streamclip. You will also need the playback component, which is $20. Follow the instructions on the Squared 5 site to install it. Streamclip is worth having even if you don't use it this time around.
    Good luck.

  • How do you crete an "unrendered look" in Final Cut Pro 7?

    Hi guys,
Does anybody know how to crete an "unrendered look" in Final Cut Pro 7?
What video filter do you apply?
I'm trying to create a security Camera Look and I can't find the right filter.
    Any help ?
    Thanks.

Depending on the look you are looking for there really isn't one filter to do this it is more likely a combination of things.
    One approach:
Play with the color correction filters and composite modes with a duplicate clip on the layer above.
and if you want  noise try this:

  • How do I import a .swf file into Final Cut Pro 6?

A client has given me a .swf file for use in their commercial. What is the best way to import this file to play full screen full motion?

The Final Cut Pro manual is very misleading. It says:
You can import any files that are recognized by QuickTime, including:
    * Video files: QuickTime Movie, AVI, and Macromedia Flash (video only—you won’t be able to play any audio portions).
But Apple have since removed Flash support from QuickTime so these files can no longer be opened. The best thing to do is ask the client to deliver the file to you as a QuickTime movie.

  • Corrupt quicktime files in Final Cut Pro

I have several long quicktime files that I used in a Final Cut Pro project. The files were captured to a firewire drive. Because the drive was formated in MS Fat32, the long capture was broken up into 2gig files with the same name and a number added (file, file1, file2, etc.) The movies worked fine for several months but now won't open in Final Cut or Quicktime. All that shows up is player that looks like an audio file but has no sound.
I recently reinstall my OS, but I tried opening the files on another mac and got the same results.
    thanks,
    Jim Thompson

I tried your tip but it didn't seem to work. The clips have a "v" after the file name if that helps. The first clip in the sequence opens like there's no video and will play, but has no sound. the second clip gets the error "not a movie file"
I have Quicktime Pro but don't know how to join the clips together.
Any additional advice would be appreciated

  • How Can I do an export that from Final Cut Pro 7 that is specific to these settings?

    Hi
I am current trying to export out a movie from Final Cut Pro 7 but the settings that are required are very specific and I was going to try it through compressor as well but I wasn't sure if that would work either.
    Here are the settings:
    HD:
    1 Video CODEC                 XDCAMHD50
    2 Wrapper format           QuickTime Self-Contained
3 Bit rate                              50 Mbit/s Constant Bit Rate (CBR)
    4 GOP                                   Long GOP
                                                 Closed GOP
5 Time code                       Must include embedded time code. Start-timecode: 10:00:00:00
6 Movie version               UK Home Video Version
7 Delivery time                 As per contract. Supplier to specify filename, delivery format and estimated time of arrival via email at least 60 days before                                                           transmission unless otherwise specified in contract. This should be accompanied by an IMDB link.
    1 HD video format           720 line progressively scanned (720p) @ 50Hz (25 FPS)
                                              1080 line interlace scanned (1080i) @ 50Hz (25 FPS)
    2 Resolution                      1280 x 720
                                               1920 x 1080
3 Aspect ratio                    Content should be 16:9, however 4:3 will be accepted on exception (such as for older movies shot in 4:3)
4 Graphics                           Must be within 16:9 safe graphics area (EBU R95-2000)
    5 Chroma format              4:2:2
1 HD audio format           24 bits/sample 48 kHz sampling rate
    2 Track layout                    Track 1 – 2.0 Stereo L mono
                                                Track 2 – 2.0 Stereo R mono
                                                Track 3 – L
                                                Track 4 – R
                                                Track 5 – C
Track 6 - Low frequency effects LFE
                                                Track 7 – L Surround
                                                Track 8 – R Surround

First of all, what are your sequence settings?  Looks like they want stereo AND dolby 5.1 audio tracks embedded in the quicktime (I've delivered a few films like this).  Do you have a surround sound mix?
You will almost always have more options and control in compressor over fcp so that's the way I'd go, but not sure compressor will give you the ability to match these specs.
Do you understand about safe zones for graphics?  If not, post back.
I don't see any option to set the GOP in xdcam in compressor.  This may be built in to the xdcam format.
I don't see any option for 720 xdcam hd in compressor.
There are many other tools available for this kind of work, but they may be out of your price range.  You might want to just find a facility with experience in deliverying this sort of thing.

  • How can you tell FCPX project files in a deleted trash recovery program

    Hello All
Did the unthinkable and trashed a FCPX project folder I need.....and emptied the trash.
I immediatly went into recovery with program ''Stellar Phoenix...'' and was able to recover loads of files.
Since they are now ''generic'' labeled, I can't decifer which one is the FCPX project file.
Does anyone have a method to determine which is which in a recovery situation.
    Some further info....
recovered files are organized in folders by types:
                   OSX 10.6
                   graphics
                   documents
                   apps......sub folders to include: ''c source...plist....apple scripts....etc
                   video
                   audio
                   archive
                   and a few more..
It seems apparent that it's not going to be video, audio. graphics...etc
but I was thinking ''apple scripts'' as a project is just instructions for the timeline movie, right?
anyway, have a lot of searching to do and no real map on what I'm looking at here.
Anyone had an experience like this and can shed some light?
    ...greatly appreciate it
    Thanks!

    Monty,
Within FCP, there is a menu item called "Media Manager" (depending on what version you are in). This would be worth your while to look into. It basically organizes your project by moving/archiving any used assets of a project and leaving out un-used assets. It saves a ton of disk space.
For example, say you have a 5 minute clip with an in/out point that is just 30 seconds. Media Manager will "archive" just that 30 seconds, not the entire clip. There is even a setting that you can add additional "handles" time to the front andd back of the clip if you think you may need to add or change transition.
Do a google search. I was just watching a few Youtube videos on this myself.

  • Convert a project file from Final Cut Pro 4 to Final Cut Pro 7?

Could anyone help me convert several (5-6?) project files from FCP 4.5 to FCP 7?
    Thank you.

They should just open anyway. It's going the other way that takes slightly more effort.

  • How can I change the folder where the Final Cut Pro X files?

I've tried dragging it to the new destination, but the program doesn't seem to recognize the moving process and lost the thumbnails and the reference to the files. Is there any other way?

    Tom,
Thank you for your fast answer.
Not copying folders... well I did not copy folders, I copied 4 entire drives of 4 Tb. I don't imagine moving events and projects one by one with FCPX tools. Unless it is the only way but that will take me 4 days.
Here is a screenshot of the root level of the Pegasus.
No, i do not copy the media files in the event folders.
Yes the Pegasus drive appears in FCP. I use it for actual new project with the media in specific folders for each project. Everything works fine.
Playback is set to original media.
