I have gone through the various trouble-shooting guides and nothing seems to work. The ipod does not appear in Computer, checked the cable, my iphone does appear. It is detected by itunes as being in recovery mode but no serial no appears in box, I click on restore, it begins extracting software on finishing this I get an error 3014 message, clicked on more info and went through procedures still the same problem ipod locked on usb cable/ itunes logo.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

i originally had all of my music & apps on itunes on our computer, but our computer broke. so i connected my ipod touch to our macbook and updated to the new itunes, then backed up my ipod onto the mac. after that, i synced my apps onto the mac but i don't think i synced any of my songs (unless it automatically already did that when i backed it up?) i couldn't find my songs anyway since i don't really know how to use the new itunes ... then i tried updating to iOS 6 but it had some error and said it was error 6. on my ipod, i can't do anything because it tells me to connect to itunes. but when i connect my ipod to itunes, it says my ipod's in recovery mode and i need to restore it. i don't want to restore it and lose all of my apps, photos and songs. how do i get out of recovery mode?

I've had my iPod Touch 4G for almost five months now. Since my laptop is very slow, I just buy all of my music and apps on my iPod. I actually take the time to transfer everything about once a month. Yesterday I was going to transfer my purchased items from iPod to computer, since I skipped transferring for two months. While I let my computer start up, I checked Facebook on my iPod. Since I had just changed my password Facebook said it was logging me out, but it was taking a bit longer than usual. I decided just to delete and re-download the app. While it was re-downloading, I checked the weather and my whole iPod froze. I clicked the home button multiple times, with no success, so I held the sleep/wake button and home button until the Apple icon showed (that's what I normally do when it freezes). However, the icon stayed on for five minutes. The screen then flashed white, black, and the Apple icon came back on. About a minute later, the screen showed "Connect to iTunes". I connected it, and iTunes said it was in recovery mode and I would have to restore it. It makes me sick to know that I was just about to transfer all of my purchases/photos to my computer, but now everything is gone. Is there any way I can get out of recovery and save everything? All that happened was that my iPod Touch ran out of battery, so I plugged it into my MacBook and when it turned on I just got the Connect to iTunes screen.

If re-starting the AMDS driver doesn't work, you can try removing iTunes and AMDS, then re-installing iTunes (which will re-install AMDS).
If that doesn't work, try putting the Touch into DFU mode. You kind of mentioned it above where you held the buttons down while connected to iTunes, but it didn't sound exactly correct and it can be a little tricky to get the timing down.
While having the Touch connected to the computer (and iTunes running) hold the Sleep and Home buttons until the Touch screen goes black (about 10 seconds). When that happens release only the Sleep button -- keep holding the Home button until iTunes says it found a device in recovery mode. At that point you release the Home button and will have to Restore the device, and you can try re-loading your last backup after the Restore process completes.

There is no way to recover your content if you have no backups and once it is in recovery mode it is too late to back it up. Are you sure you didn't set it to back up automatically to iCloud as prompted when you first set it up? How about the backup from your previous computer?

I'm sure there are many questions asking the same thing, but my situation seems a little different than what I've read so far.
I was attempting to restore a new iPhone 5 from a previous backup from an iPhone 3. After waiting for the 5 to download the new update (6.0.2), it started the restoration process, but stopped right before it was finished and gave me an "unknown error 6". I can't seem to make sense of what error 6 is, no matter what I read in forums.
Since then, the phone has been in Recovery Mode. I cannot get to the home screen, it WILL NOT restore completely, and every time I try I get the error 6 message. This phone is useless right now, and I am unable to restore it.
I've tried TinyUmbrella, restoring in DFU, and nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have a clue as to where I can go from here? Any ideas are much appreciated.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.
