How can you "share" 1 common TNSNAMES.ORA file amngst many clients?

We're installing into a large enterprise, and have the rqmt of installing 8.1.7 client locally, yet sharing a common network copy of TNSNAMES.ORA. Has anyone ever done this? Better yet, the question might ought to be what is the proper approach here? Local client is necessary for compatibility reasons.

Oracle provides a "DNS" type of service called ORACLE NAMES SERVERS.
This means that if the NAMES_DIRECTORY_PATH parameter in the sqlnet.ora file
has a value of OSNAMES, then the client automatically uses DDO ..
Dynamic Discovery Option to resolve then Oracle Name.
I recommend that you read up on this point ....

Can't srvctl command write tnsnames.ora file?

I use srvctl to create a new service correctly, but I find the information of this service isn't written into tnsnames.ora file, it means, user can't connect database by directly using this service name, it's very stranger, who can tell me how to use srvctl to create a service and ensuer the information about this service can be correctly written into tnsnames.ora file?

Did you check tnsnames.ora for any new entries?
Yes,There are not any new entries for the new service I just created.
Check the command reference again, there is a flag to display "sample tns entries"

If she has access to your Apple ID she can have your iBook on her device. If she syncs to the same computer, just sync it to her device. If she syncs to a different computer, copy the book from your iTunes library onto a flas drive (you'll find it on your hard drive in iTunes>iTunes Music>Books; it's an .epub file), then authorize your Apple ID on her computer (iTunes>Store>Authorize this Computer), then add the book to her library (iTunes>File>Add to Library) where she can sync it to her device.

I recently added Windows 7 Ultimate into my MacBook Pro just a few days ago using Bootcamp. I'm just wondering if I can share my files, like any videos, documents, or such things, saved in my MacIntosh drive (or wherever I saved my things into) and somehow open it back up in my Windows. When transferring a project from one computer to another,to stop errors such as these, its essential to ensure that the project is copied with all the files and folders in exactly the same locations. Also before opening the project on the new computer, you need to set up a new project and set all the preferences to be exactly the same as on the first computer. Then when you open the project, premiere will find all the files in all the right places. Even then you may need to re-link some files. Just follow the prompts when Premiere asks "Where is file...."
We use USB hard drives to store students projects on and they are used on many different computers without problems, as the preferences are all set to be the same.

How to deactivate an entry in tnsnames.ora file

I am working with Oracle 10g enterprise edition. I have a data source named with DEVDATA which should not be affected while I am working on my project. Usually, I will add DEVDATA entry in tnsname.ora file if I want to use it and I will remove that entry from tnsnames.ora file in order to protect that data source. It is very laborious process each time when I want to add or remove that entry. Do we have any mean such a way that I can switch between the two options. Currently, I have a desktop shortcut to tnsnames.ora file so that I can add or remove that entry when ever I want. Can we comment out that entry. Please suggest me.
I hope this is the right place to fire this question. If not, direct me. Thanks in advance.

Kumar.As others have said, either comment out each line of the entry, or have two tnsnames files that you rename as needed. But really, how often do you make the swap that commenting/uncommenting about five lines of code is such a burden?

How can you share a iPhoto library with another account user

I have recently seen the light and swapped from Windows to my lovely new iMac. However I am rather confused how I can configure my iPhoto library so my wife can view the same library in her account on the same machine (this was a simple thing within Windows, using shared folders). Am I missing something or do I have to duplicate the same library and place into my wife's account and then update each time we upload some photo's? Please help!

This may not be the "neatest" solution possible, but it's one that works. Just as iPhoto makes it easy to share photos between computers on the same network, you can also share photos between accounts on the same computer; but you'll have to be logged in with iPhoto running.
1) Configure iPhoto in your account for photo sharing (from iPhoto, select Preferences > Sharing> Share my photos).
2) Enable fast user switching from System Preferences > Accounts > Login Options. This is the key to the process, which will allow you to remain logged in while your wife is also logged in. It's also a very handy feature if you and your wife use the computer a lot from your own accounts.
3) Enable "Personal File Sharing" and "Remote Apple Events" from System Preferences > Sharing > Services. [I had already done this step, so I'm not sure if it's strictly necessary]
4) With iPhoto up and running in your account, use Fast User Switching to log into your wife's account (ie, you remain logged-in). [The Fast User Switching menu will be in the upper right of the main menu bar.]
5) From her iPhoto preferences, select Sharing > "Look for shared photos" if it's not already switched on.
Your photos will magically appear in the left hand column of your wife's iPhoto application using the name you designated in your copy of iPhoto.
Caveats: performance is not very good, you must be logged in and have iPhoto running, HP printers (if you have one) don't work well with fast user switching
Other solutions might be possible by "drilling a hole" into your account by altering the Unix permissions. I've used this technique to make my iTunes library available to other users on my machine. Such a solution would no doubt improve performance.
Finally, there are third-party products that allow you to manage multiple iPhoto libraries. I've never used these, but they might allow you to load the iPhoto library from another account assuming permissions are properly set.
Hope this is of some use; I'm sorry if it's a little more complicated than you might have expected.

I took the following steps to share my macbookpro files with my desktop windows XP sp3. I am using a router to connect these two computers.
1)system preferences > sharing > file sharing > options > CHECK BOX "share files and folders using SMB (Windows)" >check box 'on' my one of the 2 accounts on macbookpro> hit ''Done'' > GREEN red dot next to "Windows Sharing: on"
2) I then added 3 FOLDERS to the "shared folders:" list on 'system preferences > sharing > file sharing'
3) system preferences > network > Location >"automatic" in the drop down menu > hit edit location and create a new location with the default name "Automatic Copy" Go to Advanced> WINS > change work group to "MSHOME" (this is the name of work group on my desktop windows pc)
4) system preferences > accounts > other accounts> guest accounts: check the blue box " Allow guests to connect to shared folders"
5) go to my network places on xp. > click add a network place>Next>choose another network location>Next>Browse>entire network>Microsoft windows nework>Mshome>Macbookpro>clicked on the folder ”my account from my step #1 "
Now ALL files on this account on my macbook are shared with my desktop.
THIS IS INTERESTING AS IN STEP 1, I Had given permission to share ONLY 3 FOLDERS and I do not want to share every single macbook folder from my account with this desktop.

You'll have to open another iCloud account - you can't share access to just part of the email account.
Go to http://appleid.apple.com and create a new ID - you will need a different non-Apple email address to do this.
Sign in with it in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars and enable 'Mail' in the checklist there. You should be asked to create a new @icloud.com address.
This account will then appear alongside your present one in Mail. Your lawyer can access it in the usual way - if he doesn't have a Mac he can set the account up manually using the server settings here:

I'm interested to see if there is a way to convert an existing tnsnames.ora to the IDEConnections.xml format?
Would be a nice tip/feature...especially if you want to deploy sql developer to a large user base and not have them type in every possible connection.

I have written an article using Pages and used .mov files. How can I send the article so that it included "playable" videos? When I try to share it publicly it turns the page into a PDF and the .mov become like pictures.

PDF don't retain the movies attributes
RTF don't retain them
Plain Text don't retain them
The last format available is Microsoft Word and I didn't know this one's behavior.
So, I did what you were able to do by yourself, I inserted a .mov in a Pages document and exported it as a Word one.
When I opened it in Word, the movie was always a living movie but it's true only for MicroSoft Word. In clones, the movie is just a black rectangle.
It seems that you choose the wrong tool.

Thank you for your reply Domingo. Your suggestion worked as far as sending me a link to buy the book at iTunes. But it did not allow me to download the book from my wife's account. I did finally get an answer from Apple. It took an entire day of emailing back and forth and the final answer was relatively easy once Apple finally decided to give up the solution. Basically, you have to open ibooks and sign out. Then you have to sign into ibooks using the book purchaser's Apple ID and password. Then you can download the book onto your device. Not too bad, huh? It only took a whole day of Apple people sending me wrong instructions before they figured it out. Geez. What a disappointing experience.

Still sharing 1apple ID & 1 iCloud from way back when. Kids were little, syncing was simple... turned off their device iClouds and synced apps, playlist, shows w/ iMac via usb. I loved having my contacts, bookmarks, notes synced via iCloud and it became VERY handy when kid1 got an iPhone (appointments, practices, friends #s w/ ease!) We've recently added a macbook and another iPhone to the mix, we've got music issues & iPads ringing.... so a potential overall may be due?
Now that Family Sharing is here, it's still missing features that we USE:
* Notes (grocery list, packing lists...)
* Contacts (each family member has a 'group' name, they add to their group and the family's master list is 'all contacts' for anyone to access incase of emergencies.... anyone keeping up w/ kids lately?!)
* And the ever present iCloud icon is a looming feature for anyone, any age in the shared-family to be too curious...
* CAN any of these features be added along w/ Family Sharing?

After having burned the AudioCD from iTunes Menu Advanced choose "Submit Track Names ..."
That will put the data of your CD into CDDB.
It may take between some hour and a few days until it is recognized on a second computer through CDDB.

Export from one user (File -> Export) to the FInder. Drag the images to the Users/Shared folder. Change user and then import from there.
Or use iPhoto Sharing:
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
Enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.

How can you share a large (HUGE) video?

I created a 1:07:21 iMovie that is comprised of 3 short videos (20 seconds each) and LOTS of photos with an audio track of music. I was able to make a DVD of the iMovie but I have not been able to share it on You Tube or any other site. I have accounts with You Tube that will let me upload very large video files, but it's still not working. Any suggestions? My goal is to share the higher quality iMovie v. the DVD that has lower quality pictures (i.e. not HD). Thanks!

If you are uploading directly from iMovie and that doesn't work try just exporting your project to a format and then uploading it to the YouTube site.
