How change default alert in Calendar?

Hello
Because the default sound "Basso" isn't the best alert sound for me I want to change the default sound of Calendar items in Mountain Lion.
I was able to do this in the past, with Lion, but unfortunately this isn't possible anymore I see...
Changing the com.apple.iCal.plist file doesn't help, since this plist file doesn't exist anymore.
And despite what I saw on several websites (see http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/80_os_x_mountain_lion_tips_and_tricks#slid e-3), I can't change this in Calendar neither (see image here below)
I checked the settings in notification centre, where I can choose to have sound alerts for calendar, or not, but cannot adapt the default sound.
Can you please help?

Hi,
here is a solution that is working for me in 10.9.5 (thanks to Wakko from http://iszene.com/thread-165772-post-1927711.html#pid1927711)
(Make TimeMachine backup)
Quit calendars
Go to ~/Library/Calendars. Here, for each calendar there is a folder with its UUID (i. e. 9C36543C-8BA1-4264-8E3F-C1BB9FB207BE.calendar). To find out what calendar it is referring to open info.plist within it. Chose the calendar's folder you want to change the alarm sound for. It should also be containging the folder /LocalDefaultAlarms with the two files EventAllDayAlarms.icsalarm and EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm. If it does not open calendars and create a test event in that calendar. Go to 2.
Open EventAllDayAlarms.icsalarm and EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm. Find the line ATTACH;VALUE=URI:basso and change basso to the sound you like. I had to place the sound file in /System/Library/Sounds.
(By the way: If you want to change the default hour for alerts for all day events, change TRIGGER:-PT15H accordingly. PT stands for pacific time, -PT15H means 9 AM (15 hours before beginning of the day).)
Reboot
EventAllDayAlarms.icsalarm and EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm are re-created and reset to basso each time calendar prefs are saved. So, in order to prevent overwriting your manual settings accidentally, set them to read only.
Good luck!
Florian

  • How to change default alerts in iCal?

    Hello.
    Every time you add a new event in iCal, the Info panel of the event contains a series of default alerts that you may want to add to it. However, all of them are useless to me (e.g.: "Send email to <my address> 4 days after), so I need to manually edit them event by event. Anybody knows how to change them? I have already inspected all the plist files related to ical, and looked inside the ical package content, but I found no indication of where to change these values. Using iCal version 5.0.2
    Thanks,
    l

    John: Thank you, this is exactly what I wanted. I was indeed inspecting the plist with bbedit, but what I did not realize is that the file has some parts which are binary, so I could not see the PersistentMenu-lastUsedAlarms part by using a text editor. I opened it with Xcode and I did find what you were saying, and erased all the junk that was in there. In fact, the issue I had was also described here:
    http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Uk/uk.comp.sys.mac/2010-06/msg02349.html
    For some reason, it looks like after some upgrade the program adds were some positive values in the plist and I was stuck with default alarms that were set *after* the events I wanted to set an alarm for.
    I did what you suggested, then added by hand new values to the PersistentMenu part of the plist, and I am now happy.
    For everybody's information, to know what I did, it is enough to know to add Dictionary items to the  PersistentMenu-lastUsedAlarms, with 3 fields:
    -- AlarmTypeKey (this determines if you want a sound, or else an email, or else the other default alarm type keys. For example, sending an email is a Number, value 4; having a message with sound is a Number, value 3)
    -- AlarmDurationKey: This is a Number, in seconds, that determines when you want your alarm to trigger. E.g: -172800 will be two days before. Must be negative for "before", of course)
    -- AlarmParameterKey: This is a String, where you store the value that you want the alarm to have. For example, if you want an email to be sent, the AlarmTypeKey will be 4, as explained above, and this field will contain your email address. Instead, if you want the alarm to be a sound, the AlarmTypeKey will be 3 and this field will have the name of the sound you want (e.g., Basso).
    That's it. Thanks a lot for the solution!

  • Change default alert time in Calendar

    Is there a way to change the default alert time in Calendar to something different than 9:00 AM? I realize I can do it directly in the calendar entry itself, but I want the default to be a different time and not have to correct it every time I create an entry.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Michael, starting with Mavericks, the Preferences in Calendar do not allow you to change the default time from 9:00 AM to any other time. The only way to modify the alert time is on an entry-by-entry basis using "Custom...". I want the default time to be something other than 9:00 AM so I don't have to change it in every entry.

  • How can I customize default alerts in Calendar?

    I would like Calendar to put a default email alert on every new event. I can do it individually with each event but I can't make it a default.
    What I want is for Calendar to email me an alert the day after an event.
    I have managed to be able to get Calendar into a two-week view using the terminal, and also adjust my default event legnth using Terminal. But I have been able to find nothing that will allow for me to customize the default alert settings. Any help would be great.
    I use Calendar for work, so this may be an odd request but would improve my life drastically!

    Hi,
    For customising Required Message u can make use of "requiredMessageDetail" in af:inpuDate.
    For Pattern validation message u can go as per Kavitha's advise or
    Make use of "messageDetailConvertBoth", "messageDetailConvertDate" or "messageDetailConvertTime" as per ur "type" attribute u specified.

  • Silencing the default alert in Calendar App (Mountain Lion)

    For the newly named Calendar App (was iCal), default alerts behaviour seems to have changed in 10.8 Mountain Lion as compared with iCal in Lion.
    Through preferences, it is possible to specify a default alert. I would like to make that alert silent by default (the Basso sound jars). In iCal, before Mountain Lion, this little hack achievd this by making the specified alarm silent: link
    Anyone have an equivalent solution for Calendar App in Mountain Lion or experience of using this hack in Mountain Lion?

    Does the Alerts tab in your Calendar preferences pane have a "Play a sound" checkbox? If so, will unchecking slience the alerts?
    Or, in Notification Center, there's a setting to turn off Calendar sounds.
    My issue is that I seem to be missing the "Play a sound" checkbox I described above (see pic for what it *should* look like). Anyone else have this issue?

  • Changing default alert from None to 5 minutes before

    Hello all,
    Is there any way to have all my new Calendar events have the Alert option default to alert 5 minutes before?
    Thank you so much for your time.

    I've never found a way to do this either, and find it very annoying. The suggestion given in this forum does not work (for events created from the iPhone's calendar); that setting seems to be limited to the iCal on the computer itself. If you find (or have found) a solution, please post it. Thanks.

  • Podcast chronological playlist - how change default?

    I have a new iPod nano Gen 7.  How do I change a podcast playlist from most recent to oldest.  The new iOS plays oldest first which is a change from my old iPod.

    In case you haven't solved this:
    When you have the Podcast Settings open, select 'Podcast Defaults' in the dropdown box for 'Settings for:'  Podcast Defaults should be at the very top above the list of all your podcasts.
    Select 'Do nothing' in the dropdown box for 'When new episodes are available:'
    Select 'OK'
    That should change your default for all podcasts

  • How change default icons

    Dear
    I want to know how to change the default icons on Ibooks Author, like the button to play sound.

    Do you know how to dig into the XML and that book's assets?
    If you do find a way, I think you risk rejection during review as Apple tends to prefer a consistent interface so as to not confuse iBooks users.

  • How change default hom page with my application page

    Default home page is open with link http://localhost:8080/apex/ .
    I need to type http://localhost for open open my application .
    Thanks,

    Another option since Oracle10g XE does not come with Apache, you can replace the License page (index.htm) with this HTML code to automatically route you from http://localhost to http://localhost/apex/
    <HTML>
    <HEAD><META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="0; URL=http://localhost/apex/">
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    You do this by replacing the index.htm found in the base directory when you ftp to the XE database. Also, to change the port from port 8080 to port 80 run
    SQL> exec dbms_xdb.sethttpport(80);

  • How change default scan values?

    Hi:
    Acrobat 9 defaults to 200 dpi image resolution and 11.7 x 17  page size with the Ricoh IS450 scanner I'm using with the Windows WIA driver.  These defaults have to be overridden each time I start a new scan, rather than Acrobat 9 remembering the values from the last scan.  Trying to use custom presets I get the message that this scanner does not support presets.  OK, but why not Acrobat?   I searched the Acrobat 7 scripting guide which I have on my local system and there are no objects that access the scanner, evidently (that I could find).
    Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How change default language in Safari 5.0.5 for Windows?

    My home system (Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32bits) is in English, but I want Safari working in Brazilian Portuguese. At work, I installed Safari too, with the same "setup.exe" file, and it works in Brazilian Portuguese without any further configuration (run over Windows XP Pro SP3 PTBR).
    I do not want to do what people says in internet "copy files from pt.lproj folder then paste in en.lproj folder"... It looks bad (with my experience using Windows, it is the same that wait for crash...).
    This is a very annoying configuration in Safari... Why it does not let us chose other language in Windows?

    This is a very annoying configuration in Safari... Why it does not let us chose other language in Windows?
    I'm inclined to agree. Choice of language was provided in iTunes for Windows several years and several major versions ago.
    You can submit an enhancement request directly to Apple if you like. (We're a user-to-user forum here.) Here's a link to the Safari product feedback form:

  • Why can I not change the alert of 9am on Calendar.  My day starts far earlier so I am unable to attend to the alert.  I am sure there are many who begin their day by 7am at the latest

    Why can the 9am default alert in Calendar not be changed.  I start my day far earlier so any alert appears too late to act upon.  I am sure there are many many others whose day starts long before 9am.  Alerts a day, a week or whatever earlier are not practical if action is to be taken on a specific day

    kaeandcolesmon,
    If you open the recovery drive (partition) it should only have a single folder (Recovery).
    To make sure that your not saving restore points to that drive.
    See:
    Start, Control Panel, System, System Protection tab. Make sure the D drive partition is set to OFF so that it does not save there.

    Open the Calendar app, open the event, tap Edit and change the Alert times.
    If you want to change the default time, Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, scroll down to Calendars - Default Alert Times.
