How CMS replication works in Lync 2013.

Hi can you anyone tell how CMS replication works in LYnc 2013 2 FE servers in pool scenario and Lync 2013 3 FE servers in pool scenario.

my 2 cents - in short summary.
these is no difference in CMS replication in case of 2 FE or 3 FE or max of FE in a pool of lync server. the CMS replication mechanism is the same.
CMS - it's a repository to store management data ie Topology, configurations and policies inform of xml documents in the data called XDS (Xml Data Store) in SQL.
CMS is implemented using three Windows services:
1. Lync server File Transfer Afent ( FTA )
2. Lync server Master Replicator Agent ( MRA )
3. Lync server Replica Replicator Agent ( RRA )
Workflow
1. MRA generates data packages in to-replica as needed
2. MRA has change notifications on from-replica to pickup status packages coming in from replica
3. FTA has change notifications on to-replica for all replicas on the Master to pickup data packages going out to the replicas
4. All replicas
\xds-replica\from-master">\\<replica>\xds-replica\from-master to pickup data packages coming in from master

Microsof VX 3000 or 6000 Webcam does not work with Lync 2013 under Windows 8.1

Hi,
The problem is that i cannot use the Microsoft VX-3000 or VX-6000 with Lync 2013 under Windows 8.1.
If i go in settings under Video i can see the preview from the webcam just fine, so it works there no problem.
Wenn i try to enable my camera in a conference it does not work, i get an error: Your video cannot be started.
Now, there are no Windows 8.1 drivers for the Webcam so i installed the latest Windows 7 drivers. Because of that this webcam does not work with apps, that is fine i understand the driver problem and the way the new apps work.
But this Webcam works with skype under Windows 8.1 and it works with Lync 2010 client.
The same Webcam works just fine with Lync 2013 under Windows 7.
Is there anything i could do so that i get this Webcam to work with Lync 2013 desktop client under Windows 8.1?

Hi,
According to your description, it may be caused by driver.
You can try to install the latest version of Display Driver to fix the display issue.
Since there is no driver for Windows 8.1, I suggest you wait for updating.

Lync 2010 CMS move error to Lync 2013

Hello,
After I go through Lyn Deployment Wizard to prepare Lync 2013 server, I ran this command to create CMS on Lync 2013 svr as an administrator.
Install-CsDatabase -Centralmanagement Database -sqlserverfqdn xxx.xxx.com -sqlinstancename -rtc
The I received the following error. I also tried to the command with -clean as some suggested and it resulted in the same error. RTC instance is installed on Lync 2013 and remote connection and TCP/IP enabled. I also checked windows firewall and RTC
access is set to allow...all Lync services are running as well. I would appreciate help!!

How to fetch presence in Lync 2013 from SQL server (using query)

We are running Lync 2013 setup with 5 FE and 2 BE SQL (mirrored) servers.
How can i get presence information for our users by script or SQL queries?
My Concern is to fetch out current presence information of a list of users (CSV file) by script (Powershell or SQL query) for automation purpose. So that one need not to go to Lync 2013 (or anything) Client for every single user, to check their corresponding
presence.
E.g Say a service desk agent is handling tickets of 200 users per day. So it will be time consuming for him/her to go to Lync 2013 client and check presence for every user. It would be better for SD agent to operate, if we could make a script to fetch presence
status for the list of 200 users.
We will fetch the information when required and send a mail to him/her.

You can use one cert across the Edge and Reverse Proxy as follows:-

The simplest way of requesting this cert is from the Lync Deployment Wizard on the Lync Edge Server. Be sure to marek the request as exportable so the cert can be exported from Edge and imported to TMG.

Item Child Count ..how does it work in SharePoint 2013

I have A folder inside document library and there are no documents inside the folder. However, the Item child count is showing as 19. Why is this happening? I am a site collection admin. It should not be the permissions issue.

Does it sending statement to Mview site and later MView site execute it.
OR
It send the data for a statement from Master site to Mview site.
Example -
A delete of records in the Master Site , how will it replicate to Mview Site?

Ok i have few question now:
Q1
Can i have 2 kinds of MV within the same database. A fast refreshed, update-able one and a read-only full-refreshed one? i am talking in a replication set-up. (client site and master site setup that is]. i want the user to be abel to be able to make changes -made to table1 and table2 for example-- and sync back with the master using fast (hot) refresh every 1 week. I also want the user to have to have access to a read only replica [table3] which is an agregate and summary of some table residing on the server for reporting purpose. Can i have this setup the client.
Can i fast refresh one table 1 and 2 and also full refresh table 3 from the same client?

Do i do that be defining Groups of MV objects or a similar concept?

If the answer is for Q1, can I design an offline (built nightly) deployment template to included all tables [1 2 and 3] so that a client can download the whole setup in the morning using one download and not 2? Would the read-only replica blow up my fast refresh-able one, since it does thing from scratch?
One last question:
Can you thing of a scenario whereby i must do a full refresh on a fast-refresh MV and if so what would be the implications

CMS Replication issue

I've started my upgrade from lync 2010 to lync 2013. I've got my lync 2013 enterprise pilot pool up, certs installed all services running but I cannot get replication working between my 2013 front end servers. Just not sure where to start
troubleshooting this as there are no events logged on any of the servers concerning file replication. I've been through this

but Im not seeing any of those events logged on any of my front end servers. The replication service is running. If I run Get-CsManagementStoreReplicationStatus
-CentralManagementStoreStatus, All my lync 2010 servers replicas are up to date my but my 2013 servers are not. I can invoke replication and with in a few seconds lync 2010 is updated by lync 2013 never does, but no errors are logged. Where
can I begin to troubleshoot this? Thanks!!

Would you please tell us which step did you do during migrating from Lync Server 2010 to Lync Server 2013?
Did you move CMS to 2013 already?
On Lync Server 2013 FE server:
Please check if the schema extension have been successfully replicated in your AD DS forest.
Open Lync Server 2013 Deployment Wizard, click “Install or Update Lync Server System”. In the interface, check if all steps show normally. If not,click "Run" to complete the step.

Lync 2013 missed calls in outlook

I have lync 2013 client and server and outlook 2010 , when I received a missed call it show the caller number ( Avaya extension ) not the caller name ( AD display name ) ,
when I was on lync client 2010 the caller number is translated automatically to caller name .

I think this is the information that comes via unified contact store from your Outlook contacts. Any
contact stored in your outlook should display names if the calling number is matched. That is how it works on Lync 2013 client. So, check if that Avaya extension is matched to any of your Outlook contacts, if not enter it in the appropriate contact and make
a test call, it should not show the name of that contact.

Office Web Apps 2013 - Word app not working on Sharepoint 2013 but Excel does

We had some problems with Office Web Apps 2013 not working with Lync, and the status of OWA was unhealty so we decided to install some updates for OWA.
We have downloaded November 2013 update for OWA.
We found out a guide for putting updates on OWA and done this steps:
* Remove-OfficeWebAppsMachine
* Installed the november update
* Restarted OWA server
* ran: New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalUrl https://owasrv.domain.local -ExternalURL
https://owasrv.domain.local -CertificateName "certname" -AllowHttp -EditingEnabled
* Restart-Service WACSM
- checked in IIS in the bindings if the site useses the correct certificate
Then we went on Sharepoint 2013 and ran some commands:
* Remove-SPWOPIBinding –All:$true
* New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName owasrv.domain.local
* Set-SPWOPIZone –zone “external-https”
Now here are the funny things:
* Excel word app on Sharepoint 2013 works
* Word APP not working (screenshot)
* Lync 2013 powerpoint still not working (screenshot)
* status of OWA is healthy

No access with SP Designer 2010 after change to FBA and Windows at the same time - Does this work with SP 2013

Hi All,
It seems you can't use SharePoint Designer 2010 to open a site if you have both forms and Windows Auth selected.
Is there any way around this if i want to use the 2 at the same time?
How does this work with SharePoint 2013 as i would be doing some migrations?

As I understand, you encountered the issue after you selected both FBA and Windows Authentication at the same time.
As I test, I can open the SharePoint 2010 site using FBA and Windows Authentication by SharePoint designer 2010. When you open the site first,
you will get a dropdown menu where you can choose between the 2 authentication mechanisms.
After you choose one of them, you can open the site.

When I open the SharePoint 2013 site using FBA and Windows Authentication by SharePoint designer 2013, I also get

So I think there are some other reasons to cause the issue.
Check these things below:
1. Check if you have the permission to open the site in SharePoint designer (Site Permission > Permission Level in ribbon > Click the permission you belongs to > Ensure Use Remote Interfaces is selected).
2. Check if you have enabled the SharePoint designer to open the SharePoint site. (Select the web application hosting the site collection using the FBA and windows authentication >Central Administration website > General Application
Settings > SharePoint Designer > ensure Enable SharePoint Designer
is selected).
3. Is there any error when you open the site in SharePoint Designer? If there are any errors, could you please provide it here for further research?

Lync 2013 / CIMP(CUPS) 9.1.2 - RCC

Has anyone successfully gotten RCC working between Lync 2013 and UCM(IM&P) 9.1? I have followed the docs but cannot seem to log in. From the traces/captures I have collected it appears CIMP is returning a 401. I ran the RCC troubleshooter on CIMP server and everything comes back green.
I should point out we are using different domains.
example.com is the Lync domain
vc.example.com is the CUPS domain
example.local is our internal (AD) domain

I still haven't gotten confirmation, but I was able to work with my Lync admin and we found that if a user has multiple devices, you have to put the specific device in the Line URI field that it is supposed to control. Still working through testing to confirm it will do what we need though...from what I've seen so far, I don't think it will...and Microsoft has said they're going to sunset RCC in the next version of Lync anyway, so...

Lync 2013 x64 silent client deployment via SCCM 2012 SP1

I ran into a problem with Lync 2013 x64 silent deployment.
I need to provide every workstation with Lync 2013 client, so i decided to use deployment via SCCM 2012 sp1.
I created 2 msp files with OCT, one based on x86 Office 2013 Proplus, and other based on x64 Office 2013 Proplus.
Added them as applications to sccm software library.
Deployment of Lync 2013 x86 application was a success with over than 80% compliance.
But all Lync 2013 x64 automatic installations finish with different errors.
I created special device collection for workstations with office 2010 x64 and 2013 x64, because i can't install other architecture products once it has x64 product installed.
My membership query-rules for this collection:

My application deployment type points to setup.exe in office 2013 x64 installation folder, where i created msp file in updates folder via OCT and edited config.xml file in proplus.ww folder.
So my installation program looks like this setup.exe /adminfile updates\1lync.msp /config proplus.ww\config.xml
The same configuration works with Lync 2013 x86 deployment, except other setup folders.
When i try running installation program setup.exe with /adminfile and /config parameters locally, it installs successfully without errors or warnings.
I'm trying to find out problem source, does anyone have ideas what I am doing wrong?
Also i'm trying to reduce office 2013 installation folder size, what subfolders are necessary for Office 2013 proplus installation (still installing only lync with common files and tools)? Because now 3.5 GB package is quite hard to distribute to sccm secondary
sites with deployment point.

How can I set up Lync for my personal use?

How can I set up Lync 2013 for my personal use. I don't have any personal domain (using outlook, hotmail etc) or any server. Is there a way, I can still set up Lync on my PC? Please advise.

You can't use a personal email account (MSN/Gmail/etc..)

Lync 2013 client still show titles that is turned off on Lync 2010 server

Hi All
I have another unique issue it seems.
Environment - Lync Server 2010 on CU5. Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 client.
The client has used absconfig and removed the titles as the don't want that to be displayed.
The lync 2010 clients does not show the titles - so that is working.
Lync 2013 from external access the titles does not show - so that is working.
Internally on the LAN the Job Titles shows on the Lync 2013 client - so not working.
What I've tried so far :
Disabled exchange contact sync on a client policy
Used webdownload only for address book.
Using registry to force download of address book.
Deleted the Lync folder on the client computer to make sure when it downloads the .idx and .db file that it is the latest version.
None of the above remediations seems to have any impact on the lync 2013 client.
I have tried to replicate this in my lab (without an exchange server) and the the lycn 2010 and 2013 clients behave as they should be not displaying the job titles.
Having anyone come across this before?
I will be patching the lync 2010 server to the latest CU update, but I think the issue is somewhere else.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Danie,
I suggest you could install the latest CU update first, because the CU update would fix many problems.
In addition, shall we test Lync 2013 on a fresh computer without Outlook?(You could test this using Lync 2013 Basic).
