How come I can't send or receive iMessages?

I have an iPhone 4S. The software currently on the phone is iOS 7.0.4
For the last few weeks my messages have not been sending properly but I contacted Telstra and the problem was fixed.
Now I am experiencing issues with iMessages. I contacted Telstra but they told me it was Apple's problem.
Has anyone experienced this lately and if so do you have any answers?
It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Erin

Since you have trouble before with Telstra, maybe it's not fully resolved.
Switch off iMessage, wait a minute or two then switch it back on.
If no joy, make an appointment with the genius bar at your local Apple Store.

    Hi Heather NY,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that it can be very frustrating when an application such as Messages is not woking as expected, but there are some very good troubleshooting steps to help resolve this situation. Please use the attached article as a guide for troubleshooting, specifically the information in the To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps section.

  • Can't send or receive iMessages

Two days ago, iMessage randomly stopped working. I can still send and receive SMS fine, but iMessage does not work at all. When I try to send, it says it failed to deliver. In addition, whenever other people send me iMessages, it says that it is sent, but I never receive it. This has been causing a lot of problems and I'm desperately trying to fix it.
I have followed every piece of advice I found on here so far, including disabling/enabling iMessage, resetting network settings, and lots of hard resets, multiple times each. I'm completely at a loss as to what could be causing this, as I didn't change anything dramatic between Wednesday and Thursday (when it last worked/when it started to fail).
I know similar topics have been posted before, but I've read most of them and nothing worked. In addition, I think my issue is different, because most of those posts were from when iMessage was being glitchy in 7.0.2.
If it affects anything, I am still on 7.0.6.

Update to the current version of iOS.
Ensure that your iMessage is set to receive messages at your phone number or whatever address it was previously set to.
Also, ensure your iMessage is actually activated.  My partner had a similar issue earlier this week where iMessage unexplainably disabled itself and then when re-activating it did not actually reactivate.  Once the device was switched to a working data connection (other Internet connectivity issues were occurring at the time) iMessage activated fine.

  • After updating to IOS7.0.3 I can't send or receive iMessages, After updating to IOS7.0.3 I can't send or receive iMessages

I updated my phone yesterday to IOS7.0.3 and now I cannot send or receive iMessages. My phone is also now very slow at responding. It's annoying because I red that they created this update to solve the same problem that people had when they updated the last time. But my phone was fine before yesterday, extremely frustrating.

  • I can't send or receive iMessage

Why over the past 5 days has iMessage been not working. Receiving txt messages saying that message not sent

Try this, bring both your wife's iPhone and yours into the same room and make sure that they both have good WiFi connectivity (make sure they can both browse the web for example).  Then, send each other an iMessage and see if they send and receive within a minute.  Check that it says "iMessage" over each sent and received message.  If it says "Text Message" then you aren't using iMessage protocol but instead just regular SMS texts. If they do both say iMessage, and they both sent and received, then iMessage is working and your router, DNS, and firewall are fine.
So, then try to send an iMessage to someone that it failed to before.  If it works, then consider that either you or the recipient simply may not have had sufficient WiFi or 3G/4G/LTE data signal when you sent the messages that failed.  For iMessages to go through, you need to have a good Internet connection on both ends.  I, for example, have iMessages fail to be delivered frequently when I am in the building that I work in because I have very poor 3G signal in the building and no WiFi.  As soon as I leave the building I get a good signal and iMessages can be sent reliably again.

  • Since doing iOS 7 update I can't send or receive iMessages and when I try to activate it just keeps saying check network settings. I have done a network reset both via wifi and 3G yet still no joy. Frustrated please help

Have had the problem since iOS 7

iPads only support iMessage. You cannot send SMS with any of the native iOS functionality on it. There may be some apps in the app store that will, and certainly several messaging platforms (but read the descriptions carefully).

  • Since restore, MacBook Pro won't send or receive iMessages

I recently restored my MacBook Pro from a Time Machine backup, and when I went to log in to iMessages, I was able to log in just fine, but I can't send or receive iMessages on my MacBook Pro.  My messages come through fine on my iPhone and iPad, and I can use gchat just fine as well through Messages.  I also can't delete the iMessage account to try re-adding it.  I tried a permissions repair, but I don't know how to fix the issue! Please help!

    HI,
Use the Account Details and Sign Out buttons to remove the current ID (And re-add it again after restarting Messages)

  • TS2755 Ever since I updated my phone to iOS 7 I cannot send or receive iMessages. How can I fix this

I updated my iPhone 4 a few weeks ago to iOS 7. Ever since I did that I cannot send or receive iMessages. How can I fix this???

Try powering the iPhone off and back on. If that doesn't help, go to Settings -> General -> Reset and reset the Network Settings. Reports are that one of those two steps have cured problems with iMessages for many people.

There is a huge difference between sending email and sending messages.
Yes, I believe you when you say you can only send messages to other Apple products.  The iPad is not a telephone, and therefore, it cannot text message.  It can only iMessage, which means it can send and receive messages to/from other Apple products if they are on WiFi or an iMessage capable cellular network.
Email, however, is a whole different category.  I don't really think you can only exchange email with other Apple products only.  Make sure you have correctly identified the symptoms.

  • How can i send and receive messages through CAN

    Hi,
how can i send and receive messages using Vector CAN CARDXL

As mentioned in this forum post, if you have a dll, this can easily be called from LabVIEW or CVI.
I also went to the vector website and it does look like they have LabVIEW drivers available for download.
